Eclipse of Hillary Clinton

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been admitted to hospital in New York with a blood clot, officials say. Mrs Clinton suffered a concussion earlier this month after fainting and falling down.  At the time, she was reported to have had a stomach virus and to have passed out after becoming dehydrated. Mrs Clinton is due to stand down as secretary of state before US President Barack Obama officially begins his second term in January.

Hillary Clinton [ 26 October 1947]; 08:02 am; Chicago. Ascendant 22sc08, Mercury 21sc23; Saturn 21le18; Mars 14le0. So we have a square between Ascendant-Mercury and Mars-Saturn. The Annular Eclipse eclipse of  14th November [21sc57] fell on the Ascendant activating the aspected planets.

The Eclipse  was a spectacular event  seen throughout most of the north-west American continent. Eclipses provide  an opportunity to release the past and engage in a fresh start. The eclipse [21sc57] was conjunct the star Unukalhai [22sc15]. Alpha (α) Serpens, Unukalhai, is a pale yellow star in the neck of the Serpent. Robson states that it is associated with “craft, deceit and  malice”. In the image above Ophiuchus is seen struggling with the snake. The struggle lasts a lifetime…sometimes the man overpowers the snake at other times the snake ‘bites’ the man. Perhaps her job as secretary of state required the craft and deceit but the essential message here is that you cannot deal with these on an outer level and remain free on the inner…the snake will bite the man at sometime!

In the Neck of the Serpent (Serpens), Unukalhai shows its properties as a Martian force combined with Saturn and is often really dangerous and destructive. There will be chronic diseases, which are not easily detected, these will result in a weakened state of health and operations will be necessary. There will be accidents. [Fixed Stars and Their Interpretation, Elsbeth Ebertin, 1928, p.67, under the name Unuk.]

Mars-Saturn combination when activated are associated with ‘falls’ [1]…as she stands down as secretary of state, here it is both literal and figurative.

So the Mars-Saturn combination reflected injury and falling, again. It is the combination of falling (Saturn) and getting hurt (Mars).

November Eclipse and Lessons from Delhi rape

Hunters shooting wild ducks

Shown here is the solar eclipse of 14th November at 21sc57 . Notice that by the rules of mundane astrology it is significant for Delhi since (a) it places a Grand Cross on the angles (b) the eclipse aspects the Grand Cross. Although Venus-Zeus and Pluto in the chart are not in square aspect in the technical sense because each one is on an angle much wider orbs need to be allowed here.  The combination Venus-Pluto is well known to be associated with  violence and rape [1].

The Sabian symbol of the eclipse degree provides a clear answer about the lesson that needs to be learnt from this unfortunate episode. Given below is Dane Rudhyar’s commentary [2] for the symbol and requires no explanation.

KEYNOTE: The socially accepted release of an individual’s or a group’s aggressive instincts. What this symbol clearly stresses is the socialization of man’s primitive instincts according to a cultural ritual. Social hunting is a regulated seasonal outlet for male aggressiveness — a safety valve for emotional pressures in human beings in whom animal compulsions and bio-spheric values are still strong. In this second stage symbol we find a strong contrast with the first. In the latter, the individual proved himself truly “man” by refusing to accept the practices of war imposed upon him by his society; in this symbol for Scorpio 22° it is society that [must] willingly accept — and in accepting, ritualize and to some extent refine — the aggressiveness inherent in most individuals. The Keywords are SOCIALIZATION OF INSTINCTS.

Symbols integrate the separate experiences of a vast number of men. They take events from the realm of the fortuitous, the unprecedented, the unique and the incomprehensible to the realm of "universals." They may suggest an answer to a problem, perhaps until then but superficially understood.[3]

No symbol should be considered inherently negative. Even if the image or scene presented seems full of negative implications, these should be considered as a form of teaching and thus perhaps as the via negativa which leads man to spiritual heights by forcing him to experience a violent revulsion from the depths of human misery and even degradation. Astro-profile of Ramanujan

The constellation of Cepheus in the foreground with the coils of Cetus the sea-monster on the outer edges

December 22, 2012 marks the 125th birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the brilliant mathematician born into a modest and conservative family in Kumbakonam, a relatively small town in Tamilnadu who overcame several hurdles to find a place among the celebrated intellectuals of Cambridge. While on his death bed,  Ramanujan cryptically wrote down functions he said came to him in dreams, with a hunch about how they behaved. Now 100 years later, researchers say they've proved he was right.

Shown above is the horoscope of Srinivas Ramanujan. His Ascendant [7cn32] is conjunct the star Alhena [7cn32].  Gamma (γ) Gemini, Alhena, is a brilliant white star located on the left foot of the Twin Pollux. Elsbeth Ebertin associates this star with ‘interest in the sciences’ and likewise Manilius regards it as a genius with numbers.

"From the Twins come less laborious callings and a more agreeable way of life…..they  discover paths to the skies, complete a survey of the heavens with numbers and measurements, and outstrip the flight of the stars: nature yields to their genius, which it serves in all things. So many are the accomplishments of which the Twins are fruitful." [Manilius, Astronomica, 1st century AD. p.281.]

With the use of TNPs and asteroids a sharper picture begins to emerge. The MC is occupied by Kronos [conjunct Urania and Logos] quincunx Poseidon. The Ascendant is sextile Poseidon.

People whose prominence or reputation is based on  expertise in  some abstract branch of knowledge (e.g. mathematics).

There may be some uncertainty as to whether information is gained  intellectually or through intuition, psychicsm or some form of  channelling.

To want to spend time learning or dealing with ideas; to feel spiritualized or ethereal (receptive and nearly phosphorescent)

“Ramanujan was a deeply religious man and relied very strongly on his intuition. While in England, Hardy tried his best to fill the gaps in Ramanujan's education without interrupting his spell of inspiration”. Ramanujan has been described as a person with a somewhat shy and quiet disposition, a dignified man with pleasant manners. (mark his Cancer Ascendant). He lived a rather Spartan life while at Cambridge. Ramanujan's first Indian biographers describe him as rigorously orthodox. Ramanujan credited his acumen to his family Goddess, Namagiri of Namakkal. He looked to her for inspiration in his work] and claimed to dream of blood drops that symbolised her male consort, Narasimha, after which he would receive visions of scrolls of complex mathematical content unfolding before his eyes He often said, "An equation for me has no meaning, unless it represents a thought of God."Wikipedia

The role that the TNP Poseidon [10vi19] played in his life appears to be more than just inspiration that he channelled into mathematics. In his horoscope it is conjunct Epsilon (ε) Ursa Major, Alioth,[7vi21] a fairly bright star (magnitude 1.7) situated on the root of the tail of the Great Bear, on the thickest part of the tail. It is also quincunx Kronos [8ar41].  Now comes the interesting bit. His progressed Sun [25cp19] was forming a Sesqui aspect to Poseidon in 1912-13 . The recognition of his genius began when he wrote to G.H. Hardy at Trinity on  16th Jan 1913 and Hardy replied on  8th Feb 1913. His correspondence with Hardy led to a scholarship from Madras and a grant from Trinity, Cambridge, England.  In her book ‘Secrets of the Ancient Skies’ , Diana Rosenberg  writes “In ancient China, Alioth was Mr.Red Coat who helped students through their exams. He was a special friend of those who felt they had no chance.”

His diet and religious observations were compromised by the great difference in life style to which he had to adapt. Hardy helped him get into his original work, but the isolation of his life and difficulties in diet caused him great stress. He became ill in 1917, and in January 1918, tried to kill himself by throwing himself in front of a train. Rescued, he struggled on until he was able to return to India in 1919.

In this period  Ramanjuan’s  both directed and transit Pluto were square radix  Moon [3ar08]…which is conjunct the star Deneb Kaitos [1ar01] along with stars of Cepheus and the Dragon . Robson states that this star “causes self-destruction by brute force (as well as) sickness”. While Elsbeth  Ebertin adds that it gives rise to “inhibitions and restraints in every way, psychologically and physically”. More recently Diana Rosenberg’s  account of  this area appears to describe Ramanujan quite accurately:

“The dramatic combination of King, Dragon, Sea-Monster and Fishes combines influences of the watery depths with the imperious, ardent impulse of King Cepheus. The king’s stars offer leadership but shadowed by the doubts and dark dominion of the Sea-Monster. On the wild shore between the terra firma of sanity and the ocean’s chaotic depths these people are obsessive, single minded, high strung, nervous, edgy, racked by a great inner tension; if they do not find positive outlet for these energies, they may be destroyed by them.”

KRONOS: leaders
POSEIDON: Uplifting people/ideas; psychic vibrations; persuasion; intellectual or spiritual influences.

Full Moon launches China’s bullet train

Auriga – The Charioteer

China launched services Wednesday [26 December] on the world’s longest high-speed rail route, linking the nation’s capital in Beijing all the way to the country’s southeastern hub of Guangzhou. Averaging speeds of up to 186 m.p.h. (300 km/h), the 1,425-mile (2,293 km) route now takes eight hours to complete; previously, the journey would take about 22 hours by train. (It will also be making stops in other cities en route, including Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Wuhan and Changsha.)

This is indeed a major breakthrough in technology for China. So are there any indication in the stars of this technology leap? We start here with the eclipse of 21st May 2012 in Gemini – the sign that governs travel. Notice that the eclipse along with Mercury-Jupiter is in  hard aspect to Pluto on the descendant of the chart. Pluto in turn is square  Uranus– a combination that is a defining aspect of our times.

Richard Tarnas notes, “With Pluto acting on Uranus, we can see what could be called the intensification on a massive scale (Pluto) of technology (Uranus) or the empowerment (Pluto) of revolutionary breakthroughs (Uranus) and awakenings”.  He gives as an example the  tremendous scientific discovery and revolutions in science at  turn of the Twentieth Century when a Pluto-Uranus opposition [1896-1905]  took place. “Epochal breakthroughs” in technology occurred, such as the discovery of radioactivity and the electron, the invention of the automobile, Zeppelin, and the airplane. The number of automobiles in America rose a thousand-fold from 25 in 1896 to 25,000 in 1905.

With this background we can expect a technological  breakthrough at Beijing but in what area? Perhaps if we look at the star Capella [22ge02] which squares the MC [21ge30] we will get some answers. Alpha (α) Auriga, Capella is a star associated with the Charioteer. From Manilius’ explanation we can see that this star is associated with fast moving vehicles!

“Again, when the bolts have been drawn and the horses have escaped from the starting-pens, he will urge on the spirited steeds and, leaning forward, he will seem to precede them in their swift career; hardly touching the surface of the track with his light wheels, he will outstrip the winds with his coursers' feet… By examples such as these are you to mark the rising figure of the Charioteer". [Manilius, Astronomica, book 5,  1st century A.D., p. 305-309].

If we are right about our analysis then the progression of the chart to 26th December, the date of launch of services should show significant planets on the angles. And sure enough we see  Pluto on the progressed Ascendant square Uranus – the signature for a technical breakthrough! And as is usual for major events like these there is  more than one indicator. The Full Moon of 28th December which forms a T-square to Uranus-Pluto squares the meridian axis at Beijing.

P.S.  We must never forget that Full Moons are culmination of  seed ideas contained in the New Moon. The  current New Moon was in Sagittarius which is associated with "long distance" travel.

Eclipse of Ratan Tata

Ratan Naval Tata, KBE (born 28 December 1937), is an Indian businessman who became chairman of the Tata Group (1991–2012), a Mumbai-based conglomerate. He is a member of a prominent Tata family of Indian industrialists and philanthropists.

Friday, December 28, 2012. Ratan Tata will hand over the top job at India’s largest industrial house, Tata Group, to his successor, 44-year-old Cyrus Pallonji Mistry. Mistry is taking over as chairman of Tata Sons, promoter-company of the group, ending a one-year-long apprenticeship. Tata, however, will serve as honorary chairman emeritus and remain chairman of the various Tata trusts.

Here we will look at the role of the last lunar eclipse of 28th Nov 2012 in Ratan Tata’s retirement. Eclipses are known to shut down a past that we need to outgrow. They create a relaxation and re-stimulation both in Earth’s energy grid and in our neurobiological resonance providing an opportunity to release the past and engage in a fresh start. Notice that the eclipse places Uranus-Pluto along with Kronos-Hades on the angles of the chart at Bombay. In the words of Reinhold Ebertin, Uranus-Pluto is about the ‘end of an old order’. The TNP Kronos is about leaders and Hades is about their decline or retirement. But why today?. Notice that today’s Full Moon [7cn – 7cp] falls on the Ascendant-Descendant axis of the eclipse chart activating whatever it stood for. And since today is also Tata’s birthday, his radix Sun is on the descendant and, therefore, affected.

Finally, since Ratan Tata is a leading Indian businessman one may ask "does today’s retirement show up in India’s chart" and the answer is “yes”.  Shown below is the Solar Return chart for the Republic of India progressed to 28th December. Notice Jupiter – Saturn occupy the meridian axis.

Astrology classifies Jupiter and Saturn as planets of business success primarily because Jupiter is associated with risk taking while Saturn provides the discipline and the capacity to get along with powers-that-be. In transit opposition :

Jupiter-Saturn; to have a happy separation (to be glad to leave or to leave for a good reason). - Martha Wescott Lang “The Orders of Light”

Eclipse of Yoshihiko Noda

Shinzō Abe born (21 September 1954) is the current Prime Minister of Japan, in office since 2012. A Japanese politician, he has been President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP)  and the chairman of the Oyagaku propulsion parliamentary group. Abe became the Prime Minister again following the LDP's landslide victory in the 2012 general election with a government on 26 December 2012.

Yoshihiko Noda is the former Prime Minister of Japan, a member of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), and a member of the House of Representatives (lower house) in the Diet (national legislature. Following a severe loss for the DPJ in the December 2012 general election, Noda conceded defeat and announced his resignation as party leader.

Eclipses have long been known to have a major effect on the fortunes of Governments and nations especially if they occur in the tenth house [1]. Shown above is the lunar eclipse of 28th November at Tokyo. Notice that the eclipse Moon is placed in the tenth house forming the apex of a Yod. A Yod is a special configuration where one planet forms inconjunct aspects to two other planets which are sextile to each other.  A Yod is very much like arriving at a fork in the road and having to take one or another path. This is not a matter of conscious or deliberate decision but instead is one due to unrecognised necessity.

If we progress the eclipse to 26 December 2012 we notice that the all important Uranus-Pluto square has reached the angles.  Also notice Kronos [government] Hades [decline] on the midheaven. In simple terms, Uranus-Pluto is usually the end of an old order and the beginning of a new one. Kronos with Uranus-Pluto would be a change of leadership.

Astrology of the 'fiscal cliff'

The New Moon eclipse of 13th November takes place conjunct the star Unukalhai (Alpha Serpens), which along with Beta Serpens, form the neck and head of the serpent. These stars impel us to demonstrate our true self-mastery by reaching beyond our past patterns and the entrapments. If we do not choose new experience we stay entrapped in our past patterns. This Lunar Eclipse brings realization to our Beta Centauri Lunar Cycle. It reveals the need to step forth as leaders and pioneers while standing in the midst of chaos and the diversionary conditions of human life. It brings attention to the physical infrastructures in our lives and if and how they are supporting our fundamental  physical needs. It reveals our need to take the action in self-mastery to manifest the visions we hold for our lives. One of the most common things forgotten of Taurus is the need to take action, without it, our visions do not manifest and we remain entrapped in the chaos and confusion of stormy Hyades. Physical action is essential.[1]

The above description from Nick Fiorenza quite aptly describes the crisis facing the US being called the ‘fiscal cliff’ and the challenge facing the leadership. In the United States, the fiscal cliff is a newly coined term referring to the effect of a number of laws which, if unchanged, by 1st Jan 2013 could result in tax increases, spending cuts, and a corresponding reduction in the budget deficit

Shown above is the Full Moon lunar eclipse chart of 28 Nov at Washington. Notice that a Yod with the eclipse at the apex is prominently placed on the angles. The eclipse chart progressed to 1st Jan 2013 brings the Full Moon to the meridian axis(see below) implying that the eclipse and the Yod are fully activated on that date.“A Yod is a special challenge to constructively alter and bring into clearer focus thatwhich impairs the total functioning of the individual. A Yod that is activated is very much like arriving at a fork in the road and having to take one or another path. This is not a matter of conscious or deliberate decision but instead is one due to unrecognised necessity.” [2]

Two other charts seem to suggest that the US is more likely than not to go over the ‘fiscal cliff’. Both  (a)  The Capricorn Ingress chart (b) the chart for 1st Jan 2013, 0:00 hrs  have the now familiar Kronos-Hades-Pluto-Uranus T-square firmly on the angles along with Sun conjunct Pluto. Kronos-Hades is the stupidity of leaders or more politely a deterioration of the executive function and Uranus-Pluto can be read as the collapse of an order on account of this.

P.S. In China Houng-Sing - the Star of Balance was a group of stars (in the area our Centaurus). One of them was 7Sc43. The Lifting Mechanism or the fulcrum was another group of stars called Wou-Tchou. Kou-Leou , The Treasury, stars surrounding Houng-Sing and Wou-Tchou on three sides, represented the
ImperialTreasury (three of these stars in Centaurus are placed at 2sc29,0sc53, 1sc30) allthese fairly close to the MC and Venus-Saturn in the eclipse chart above. Is it a coincidence that with these stars the crisis called the ‘the fiscal cliff’ concerns the US Treasury?

Mizar and the Oklahoma City fire

Oklahoma City firefighters say a woman and four children are dead after a blaze at a house on the city’s northwest side. City Fire Department Maj. Tammy McKinney says the children killed in  this morning fire range in age from 2 to 8 years old. McKinney says a man also is in critical condition at a local hospital.
McKinney says the home was already engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived just minutes after receiving a call around 6:30 a.m.[26th Dec] The cause of the blaze was not immediately known. McKinney says the home did not have working smoke detectors.

This event can be understood  clearly if we simply look at the lunar eclipse of 4th June 2012  which took place with the Moon is Sagittarius – a fire sign.  The eclipse is on the horizon axis which makes it very important for Oklahoma. Also it is square Mars which is conjunct the star Mizar.

Zeta (ζ) Ursa Major, Mizar, is a double star, possibly binary, brilliant white and pale emerald on the Tail of the Great Bear.

Supposedly, Mizar portends a Mars nature. The reputation of Mizar, if it is in maximal position in a mundane map, is that of being connected with fires of a catastrophic extent and mass calamities. [Fixed Stars and Their Interpretation, Elsbeth Ebertin, 1928, p.55.]

Progressing the chart to the date of the event brings it the midheaven so that Elsbeth Ebertin’s observations apply.

Neptune in Pisces rediscovers Andersen’s first fairy tale

Experts in Denmark believe they have found the first story written by Hans Christian Andersen. The Tallow Candle was discovered by local historian Esben Brage in the dense private archives of the Plum family, revealed Danish paper Politiken, which printed the story in its entirety today. Brage was in the reading room at the National Archive for Funen in Odense when he stumbled across a small, yellowing piece of paper at the bottom of a box and realised it might be important. Two months later, experts have now confirmed that the story was written by Andersen. "This is a sensational discovery. Partly because it must be seen as Andersen's first fairytale, and partly because it shows that he was interested in the fairytale as a young man, before his authorship began," Ejnar Stig Askgaard of the Odense City Museum told Politiken. "And I am in no doubt that it has been written by Andersen." Experts Bruno Svindborg of the Royal Library and Professor Johan de Myliu have also agreed the text was written by Andersen. The story tells of a little candle, dirtied by life and misunderstood, which eventually finds happiness after a tinder box sees the good at its heart and lights it. "The Tallow Candle had found its right place in life – and shown that it was a real candle, and went on to shine for many a year, pleasing itself and the other creations around it," writes Andersen.[1]

We present another example of how eclipses continue to create events long after they are over. Shown above is the chart for the 21st May 2012 eclipse at Odense, Andersen’s  birthplace. Notice that the eclipse has taken place in the fourth house. The fourth house in mundane astrology rules “hidden treasures” literally and figuratively. The eclipse [0ge21] is in tropical Gemini, a sign associated with libraries, books and writers so that it is appropriate that this hidden treasure was found in an archive. It is square Neptune so that it is not just any kind of writer but an inspirational writer whose work is being discovered.

If we progress this chart by the Wynn Key method we find the Ascendant at 0ge52 conjunct the eclipse position 0ge21 and square Neptune in Pisces. In my last post
Fixed stars and the legacy of Grimms' Fairy Tales I had quoted Anita on Neptune in Pisces [2] wherein she mentions:

Many famous classic works of art were created during the last station of Neptune Pisces between 1850 and 1865 – especially fairy tales such as those written by Lewis Carroll-Alice in Wonderland (fantasy), Moby Dick (whale-the sea), Madame Bovary-infidelity, Hans Christian Andersen-fairy tales, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, Grimm fairy tales [revised edition] -painters such Renoir, Degas, Van Gogh, Matisse, Monet, Gauguin, Cezanne were also prominent during this time. Perhaps [during Neptune in Pisces] we will see some revival of timeless classic literature, art and music that again strikes the pulse of our current times with a riveting impact remembered for centuries and again brought down in history.

With the discovery of Andersen’s first fairy tale, it appears that her words were  prophetic!
Hans Christian Andersen was  born on  2 April 1805 at 01:00 (= 01:00 AM ) at        Odense, Denmark, 55n24, 10e23; Timezone        LMT m10e23 (is local mean time); Rodden Rating AA

A chart with AA rating is always an astrologer’s delight  since all the elements including the Ascendant can be relied upon. We immediately notice that the  13th  December New Moon [21Sa45] was closely conjunct Andersen’s Ascendant at 18Sa07. The chart for the New Moon at Odense shows the horizon axis occupied by the New Moon, Pluto on the Ascendant opposite Kronos-Hades on the descendant with both square Uranus.  Uranus-Pluto is about emergent, formerly repressed or hidden content. ‘Kronos-Hades’ is a famous historical personage so was the New Moon indicating that something about a famous person was about to be brought to light!

For readers who might like to explore a bit more here are a few more delightful coincidences:

- the lunar eclipse [6ge47 – 6sg47] of 28th November at Odense was exactly on the horizon axis [6ge07 – 6sg07].  The eclipse highlighted a Jupiter-Neptune square – a combination associated with the dissolution of the boundaries of the rational mind and therefore appropriately connected with fairy tales.

- the Sabian symbol of the eclipse Moon 6ge47 was:

A WELL WITH BUCKET AND ROPE UNDER THE SHADE OF MAJESTIC TREES. The power of the collective and bio-spiritual energies [perhaps in the form of folklore] which sustain all earth-rooted cultures is stressed, in contrast to whatever the technological mind of man can make available to increase his personal comfort and mastery over matter.

- Andersen’s solar return chart for 2012 has Neptune [2pi]  on the Ascendant!!

Fixed stars and the legacy of Grimms' Fairy Tales

Once upon a time, two centuries ago, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm set out to gather folk stories for posterity. Little did they know that the collection of tales they published would become one of the most widely read works in history, capturing the popular imagination around the world for generations.

Two hundred years ago , on December 20, 1812, the Grimm brothers published the first edition of their "Kinder- und Hausmärchen," or "Children's and Household Tales," now commonly known as "Grimms' Fairy Tales." Aside from the Luther Bible, it is the considered to be the most widely distributed literary work of German origin, with translations in more than 160 languages. Not only were the Grimms pioneers in the scientific documentation of folklore, they also provided a seemingly endless source of inspiration for writers, artists and filmmakers.

The first volumes were much criticized because, although they were called "Children's Tales", they were not regarded as suitable for children, both for the scholarly information included and the subject matter. Many changes through the editions – such as turning the wicked mother of the first edition in Snow White and Hansel and Gretel (shown in original Grimm stories as Hansel and Grethel) to a stepmother, were probably made with an eye to such suitability. They removed sexual references—such as Rapunzel's innocently asking why her dress was getting tight around her belly, and thus naïvely revealing her pregnancy and the prince's visits to her stepmother—but, in many respects, violence, particularly when punishing villains, was increased. [1] [see Castor-Pollux below]

Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm ( 4 January 1785 – 20 September 1863) was a German philologist, jurist and mythologist. He is best known as the discoverer of Grimm's Law (linguistics), the author (with his brother) of the monumental Deutsches Wörterbuch, the author of Deutsche Mythologie and, more popularly, as one of the Brothers Grimm, as the editor of Grimm's Fairy Tales. His radix Sun [14cp37] was conjunct the star Sheliak [15cp53] of Lyra square Neptune [conjunct Gienah of Corvus] and opposite Uranus [conjunct Castor of the Twins]. So what do each of these elements mean?

The lyre was originally bestowed with the qualities to invoke and communicate the messages of the gods. Prominent alignments and aspects to Lyra are often found in poets, musicians, artists who use their gift for the general  expansion of consciousness.  Meanwhile Castor - one of the twins of the constellation Gemini   - has been called “the intellectual writer”. Castor and Pollux are the  balance and/or struggle of light and darkness. It represents the ‘storyteller  bridging the gap of opposites like good and evil’.

Corvus, the raven is a bird sacred to Apollo. Corvus is the Latin name for both the raven and the crow and these two birds are usually paired together in mythology. From the same family, their obvious intelligence and ingenuity, as well as their distinctive caw, has given them a widespread association with  storytelling and the relaying of messages.

Neptune’s association with fantasy, miracles, healing, merging, oneness, lost in love, abandonment and soul pain, surrender, darkness and loneliness are well known. It lifts us into a  fantasy fairy land-piano concerto’s, flutes and harps, the pied piper tune luring us into a hidden dimension. Perhaps [during Neptune in Pisces] we will see some revival of timeless classic literature, art and music that again strikes the pulse of our current times with a riveting impact remembered for centuries and again brought down in history.[2]

One last point that remains to be understood is the chart for the date of the first publication 20th December 1812. Shown above  is the chart of the lunar eclipse of 27th February 1812. Notice that the eclipse on the horizon axis and square to Neptune. If we progress this eclipse to 20th December 1812, we notice Neptune on the Ascendant conjunct the Great Attractor [3].

Several interesting factors immediately jump at us  about the physical operation of the Great Attractor (GA). First, it recedes from us at a fantastically high velocity, as indicated by its red shift. At the same time the extreme ultraviolet energy coming from beyond the opposite end of the light spectrum renders an approaching appearance. While this complex point actively recedes, it summons an energy of “come hither.” Once engaged, this pull exceeds anything known. The attraction to this point possesses a seductive tone, but in a classical Sagittarian mode. There’s something about it. It seems to possess this energy - it’s mysterious, it’s captivating, it might even be a direct personification of the Creator! Regardless, it knows something you have to know. [3]

In short the GA appears to emit an energy that attracts us in a mysterious way. This is something that Grimms’ fairy tales have done for countless generations.

Webster blaze and Newtown massacre : The Common Denominator

Then said Jesus unto him, “Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword”. Matthew 26:52, King James Version

“The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy, instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it” Martin Luther King, Jr.

Two US volunteer firefighters have been shot dead and two injured while responding to an emergency call in the town of Webster in New York state. Police said the four were fired upon in an "apparent trap" as they arrived on Monday morning. The blaze broke out just before 06:00 local time (11:00 GMT) and officers had to evacuate nearby residents in an armoured car. A gunman has been found dead at the scene, local police say. The man was 62-year-old William Spengler, Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering told media.

In a previous Astrology of the Newtown school massacre [1] I had analyzed that event in the backdrop of the 21st May solar eclipse. Since this event has taken place in the same general area it may be worthwhile to take a relook at that post. The eclipse charts are also similar.

H.S. Green in his book Mundane or National Astrology writing about eclipses says:

The strongest effect is felt in those parts in which it is visible, especially if it is also angular, i.e., rising, culminating or setting; and it is experienced next in countrie sruled by the sign containing the luminary.

The Annular Eclipse of 21st May in Pleaides was a spectacular event seen at sunrise in Japan and at sunset throughout most of the north-west American continent. At Newtown, Connecticut it was setting (see chart below). And Raphael lists USA among the countries ruled by the sign Gemini in which the eclipse took place so that all three conditions mentioned by H.S. Green are fulfilled.

The Pleiades causes bereavement, mourning, sorrows and tragedies. [The Living Stars, Dr. Eric Morse, p.39.]In ancient China, the Pleaides were Mao, seen as part of a Hunting Net.[Readers may note that firemen walked into an "apparent trap"] The Autumn hunt was a huge massacre of animals in which the emperor himself, in his war uniform, took part.

In the progressed chart of the eclipse for Monday, 24th December, the date of the incident we find the eclipse on the meridian axis and the progressed Ascendant [11Vi03] conjunct Mars [10Vi51]  and the star Zosma [11Vi30]. As mentioned before Bernadette Brady associates this star with victims of calamities. Two other authors provide more perspective on this star.

Zosma of Leo, one of the three stars creating the hind of the Lion. Zosma is of foul or diversionary winds, and can also be indicative of being diverted due to our own toxicity, or of those that around us. We can get swirled and tossed around in the psycho-dramatics created by others performing on the stage of the human world.[2]

"Who can doubt the nature of the monstrous Lion, and the pursuits he prescribes for those born beneath his sign? The lion ever devises fresh fights and fresh warfare on animals, and lives on spoil and pillaging of flocks…. Their temper is equally prone to fitful wrath and ready withdrawal, and guileless are the sentiments of their honest hearts" [Astronomica, Manilius, 1st century AD, p.237.]

Perhaps it is time to ask why these incidents [linked to the same stars here] keep re-occurring. Eric Francis writing in Planet Waves may have an answer:

When 88 people die in 16 mass shooting incidents in one year, that’s begging for a cause and effect relationship. In 2007, there were 12,632 homicides with guns committed in the United States, about 242 a week. Part of the systemic problem involves the aggression of the United States government. Most people don’t like to look at this. Some still believe we “liberated” the Iraqis. Does that include the 500,000 children killed by lack of fresh water during the Clinton years, which then-Secretary of State Madeleine Albright admitted to on 60 Minutes?[3]

Fixed Stars of the Battle of Gaugamela

Darius III at the Battle of Gaugamela

The Battle of Gaugamela [1] took place on  October 1, 331 BC between Alexander the Great and Darius III of Persia near Mosul, not far from Irbil (Arbela), which also is a name of the battle (Battle of Arbela).  It  resulted in a decisive victory for the Macedonians and led to the fall of the Persian Empire.

The eclipse [19li04] is conjunct Jupiter[19li44] and opposite Uranus [13ar25].  It was also conjunct the star Agena [21li35] beta Centauri. In ancient China this star was part of the asterism that referred to a time when doors were opened to let the sunlight in.
Jupiter-Uranus convey much the same message that in order to continue to grow, the individual  [the nation in this case]  must embrace new ideas, even new philosophies and cultures rather than maintain the old order of doing, thinking and believing.

Uranus [13ar52] is conjunct Gamma (γ) Andromeda, Almach, which  along with surrounding stars in Andromeda and in Triangulum, was Tien Ta Tseang, Heaven's Great General

On the Ascendant [2ge26] is the star Tejat [2ge56] part of an Arabic lunar mansion about which Robson says “favorable for hunting, besieging towns, and the revenge of princes”.  While on the MC [11aq28] is the star Achernar [11aq23]. Achernar means the end of the river and is positioned at the end of the celestial river Eridanus.  It refers to a release from the past, from the long winding road we have been on, dissolving what has been into universality.  Might this also refer to the end of  the lineage of Persian kings? Alexander's conquests starting with Persia resulted in a major cultural diffusion. He founded some twenty cities that bore his name, most notably Alexandria in Egypt. Alexander's settlement of Greek colonists and the resulting spread of Greek culture in the east resulted in a new Hellenistic civilization.

The eclipse acquires significance for Mosul since the MC is squared by the Pluto-Neptune opposition.

Neptune opposite Pluto. One is too weak [Darius III]  to counter the obsessions and power drive of another [Alexander].

On the day of the great battle the progressed Ascendant [solar quotidian method] brings the Pluto-Neptune opposition on to the horizon axis. Pluto[12ta22] is conjunct the star Cursa [12ta56] while Neptune [9sc17] is conjunct the Royal star Antares [7sc23].

Cursa [12ta56]  marks the beginning of the river Eridanus [ the beginning of a new order?]. In classical astrology, Antares Alpha (α) Scorpius, is a bright  red binary star, fiery red and emerald green, near the center of the constellation Scorpius and was sometimes called "the Heart of the Scorpion".  It  has been known as the star of war and weaponry, and with expounded meaning, it refers to the need to challenge the established politics with a tenacious willingness to fight and even destroy. Antares demands we take a stand against the established order or authority since they  no longer work in the best interest of mankind. [2]

Persepolis - History in the stars

Persepolis was the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire (ca. 550–330 BCE). Persepolis is situated 70 km northeast of the modern city of Shiraz in the Fars Province of modern Iran.  The circumstances of its destruction by fire are recorded in history thus:

(Diod. 17.70.1-73.2) 17.70 (1) Persepolis was the capital of the Persian kingdom. Alexander described it to the Macedonians as the most hateful of the cities of Asia, and gave it over to his soldiers to plunder, all but the palaces. It was the richest city under the sun and the private houses had been furnished with every sort of wealth over the years. The Macedonians raced into it, slaughtering all the men whom they met and plundering the residences.
Alexander held games in honour of his victories. He performed costly sacrifices to the gods and entertained his friends bountifully. While they were feasting and the drinking was far advanced, as they began to be drunken a madness took possession of the minds of the intoxicated guests.  At this point one of the women present, Thais by name and Attic by origin, said that for Alexander it would be the finest of all his feats in Asia if he joined them in a triumphal procession, set fire to the palaces, and permitted women's hands in a minute to extinguish the famed accomplishments of the Persians.  This was said to men who were still young and giddy with wine, and so, as would be expected, someone shouted out to form up and to light torches, and urged all to take vengeance for the destruction of the Greek temples. (4) Others took up the cry and said that this was a deed worthy of Alexander alone. When the king had caught fire at their words, all leaped up from their couches and passed the word along to form a victory procession [epinikion komon] in honour of Dionysius.

Shown above is the eclipse chart of a total lunar eclipse that occurred in 330BC at Shiraz [modern day location of Persepolis]. By the rules of mundane astrology, the eclipse is significant since it squares the Ascendant-Descendant axis.  The eclipse Moon [21vi35] was sharply conjunct the star Spica [21vi30] and in the fourth house connected with buildings. This star is linked in Vedic astrology to the asterism Chitra. Chitra means the brilliant, the bright or the beautiful. It is symbolised by a bright jewel. The presiding deity is Vishvakarma, the celestial architect. Through the four yugas (aeons of Hindu mythology), he is supposed to have built several beautiful  towns and palaces for the gods.

Also the Moon [3N43] is parallel and antiparallel in declination to Betelgeuse [3N40] and Alograb of Corvus [3S39]. This helps identify the actors in the drama:

Algorab of Corvus the Raven has been associated with “destructiveness, malevolence, fiendishness, repulsiveness and lying” [Robson*] and so easily fits the character of the woman Thais who incites Alexander shown here by the star Betelgeuse of Orion, the Hunter or Warrior.

From the chart we have the following:

Neptune-Zeus midpoint = 18 Vi00 ; Ascendant = 18 Ge27 ; TNP Cupido = 18 Sg57

All these are in hard aspects so that we can write:

Neptune/Zeus = Ascendant = Cupido

Cupido itself is conjunct Kronos and Jupiter

The interpretations are:

Neptune-Zeus: ‘victims of  fires or those who are at the mercy of a military action--especially one  that occurs in the dark or is accompanied by chaos….there's some  subtrefuge  that can incite’. Martha Wescott Lang [* that all this was carried out under the influence of alcohol is also shown by Neptune]

- with Cupido …a burning building.

Cupido-Kronos-Jupiter: A famous palace

Alexander [born 20 Jul 0356 BC, Pella, Greece] had his radix Sun 21cn45 conjunct Zeus [fire] in the eclipse chart. His horoscope carries a Mars-Neptune square – a signature aspect for many who over-indulge in drinks.

Astrology of India’s outrage

There is always more misery among the lower classes than there is humanity in the higher.  ~ Victor Hugo (Les Miserables, 1862)

Waves of angry demonstrators were repelled by tear gas and water cannons in New Delhi on Saturday [22nd Dec]  as they marched on the president's residence to protest the brutal gang rape of a 23-year-old student on a private bus last weekend. With cries of "be ashamed," thousands flowed through central Delhi, trying to break through steel barricades as the seesawing battle lasted into the evening. It's the fourth straight day of protests that have shaken the government and taken police aback. "These are unprecedented demonstrations," NPR's Julie McCarthy reports. "They want justice for this young woman, and they want women in this country generally to feel safer on the streets, at work, in subways, and on public transportation."

Readers may wonder whether there is an astrological indicator for this “unprecedented rage” in the public. And sure enough there is. There has been a Uranus-Pluto square in the heavens for sometime now and will last till about 2015. The meaning and the various possible manifestations have been discussed by several astrologers so that I will not repeat expect provide a few quotes:

Pluto in Capricorn is showing us where power has become overwhelmingly leveraged towards the few, at the expense of the rest.  Pluto engenders the seeds of revolution, and the fall from power of those in high places, if need be.  It’s about the redistribution of power.  In Pluto weather the dark underbelly is revealed... And when in Capricorn it lays bare the underlying problems and weaknesses in the existing structures, governments and seats of power.  And when planets come to stress this they have been this year, those structures are challenged for stability, strength and soundness.

When Uranus in Aries (freedom, initiative and individuality) comes up against Pluto in Capricorn (plutocracy, oppression, fascism) there is a desire to be free at all costs.  But the passion and anger that ensues does not arise out of nowhere.  It is due to circumstances that people had been tolerating for some time.  Powder kegs were ready to explode... all they needed was the spark to ignite it.[1]

Having understood the meaning of the Uranus-Pluto square we turn to the chart of the Republic of India [26 Jan 1950; 10:15 am Delhi]  and notice that this square occupies the Ascendant-MC. Uranus has just stationed direct [2] on 13th December at 4Ar [India’s Ascendant] squaring Pluto [9cp] on the MC.  Radix Mars in India’s chart is at 9li so that it has been activated by the Uranus-Pluto square. In mundane astrology, the Ascendant rules the ‘masses’ and the MC the ‘government’ or the ‘rulers’

Named for the god of war, Mars represents such often-disowned functions as anger, aggression, and competitiveness. At its best and its most conscious level this is the energy that defends us on our journey. But it also has a negative side, it is our capacity to be a victim, to set ourselves up as targets – and then in the anger  such painful, humiliating events leave in their wake to seek to create pain in others. Pluto represents our will to power, and because power is so often abused, is typically disavowed and projected onto others. In this case it has been projected onto our leaders.  We all have both Mars and Pluto in our charts and need to integrate and express them constructively in order to be whole and free. In India’s chart it represents our collective unwillingness to own these planets within ourselves which made  life difficult. Now is a time for this collective anger to ‘boil over’. [3][4]
