Mystery of dead pigs in Shanghai river

Over 2,800 decomposing pigs have reportedly been pulled from the upper reaches of Shanghai’s Huangpu river – a source of drinking water for some of the mega-city’s 23 million inhabitants. How so many pigs got there and why they died remains a mystery, although local media reports have suggested the animals may have been dumped in the river by an unscrupulous farmer from the neighbouring province of Zhejiang. The pigs were first discovered on Thursday, five days ago. Graphic photographs of the bloated, floating carcasses circulating online did little to calm residents' nerves. "We have to act quickly to remove them all for fear of causing water pollution," Xu Rong, the environmental chief in Shanghai's Songjiang district told the state-run Global Times newspaper. "So far, water quality has not been affected but we have to remove the pigs as quickly as possible and can't let their bodies rot in the water."[4]

The Cardinal Ingress chart is an important tool in mundane astrology for understanding events on a daily basis. Shown above is the Capricorn Ingress chart for Shanghai. The significant things to note here is placement of the Uranus [4ar38] square Ingress Sun and Moon [14ar15] close to the MC [21ar25] and Mars [26cp26] on the descendant.

Conjunct Uranus is  the star phi Ceti [6ar04] and Moon  the star 37 Ceti [14ar14] which formed part of the Chinese asterism T’ien-Houan, The Celestial Marshes. According to Schlegel, the Chinese character Houan was composed of a pig in an enclosure filled with water. It was also called The Place of the Celestial Filth.  The western horizontal chord of Pisces was Wai-P’ing, the outer enclosure which was formed by several stars along with  mu [23ar28], zeta [20ar03] and delta [14ar19] Piscium occupied by the MC and Moon in the chart. This was a bamboo hedge fence around the pig farms and marshes to keep the animals safely in and people safely outside. Chinese astrologers held that if these stars appeared to move or could not be seen there would be illness among the people, caused by the odors of the pig marshes. [1]

Mars [26cp26]  is opposite (a) alpha Canis Minor (Procyon – 25cn57) which was part of Nan-Ho, the Southern River (b) Chi Geminorium (Pollux’s cap – 27cn24) was Tsi-Choui, The Accumulated Waters or the Massed or Swollen Waters. Astrologers held that if one moment it looked bright and next it faded away, rivers would overflow.[2] Putting  the asterisms T’ien-Houan and Tsi-Choui together, it appears possible that overflowing rivers killed the pigs!

Progressing the chart for the period  Mar.7 to Mar. 11, when the dead pigs were first discovered we notice Pluto-Uranus-Hades on the angles. The progressed MC is conjunct eta [3cn32], mu [5cn28] and upsilon [6cn57] Geminorium. These stars formed part of the Chinese asterism Tsing, The Well *. When this asterism culminated, it served as a reminder that it was time to clean the wells. Rotting material had to be removed and every care taken that the water be clear and fresh. [3]
