Venus transit: India rejects Novartis’ patent plea

Novartis: India rejects patent plea for cancer drug Glivec.
India's Supreme Court has rejected a plea by Novartis to patent an updated version of its cancer drug, Glivec. The Swiss drugmaker had been denied a patent by Indian authorities on the grounds that the new version was only slightly different from the old. The decision means generic drugmakers can continue to sell copies of the drug at a lower price in India, one of the fastest growing pharmaceutical markets. Glivec, which is used to treat chronic myeloid leukaemia and other cancers, costs about $2,600 (£1,710) a month. The generic equivalent is currently available in India for just $175. There were concerns that, if granted, a patent could threaten access to cheap generic versions of life-saving drugs in poorer countries.

To understand this important development in the light of astrology, I will take my readers back to first week of June 2012 when there was a lunar eclipse (June 4) accompanied by the rare Venus transit of June 6. Shown above is the lunar eclipse chart with the Moon [in 2nd house] opposite Sun [in 8th house]. The eclipse axis conjoins Venus and square Mars.

2nd House Everything that has to do with money and the economy of the country.
8th House Financial matters that involve others outside the country or other countries
(and by implication business with foreign companies)
6th House The working classes; public health or illness

The Full Moon eclipse of June 4 occurs in sidereal Scorpio and in the constellation Ophiuchus [1]. In the  ancient stellar image, Ophiuchus stands confidently holding the serpent (Serpentis) coiled around his body. In Greek myth, Aesculapius (Aesclepius or Asculapius) the mediciner of the ship Argo, is also imaged as Ophiuchus, knowledgeable of advanced healing processes beyond the cycle of life and death. Aesculapius is the Greek version of Imhotep of Dynastic Egypt. Imhotep is considered to be the father of medicine [1].

Since  this area is closely connected to medicine and healing if we combine that with the  meaning of the 2nd – 8th house opposition  we can see a conflict of interest (opposition) between a country and its business dealings with foreign companies. That we are dealing with medicines that are required for public health can be seen from the fact that eclipse Mars (ruler of 6th house- public health or illness) is placed in Virgo – a sign connected intimately with pharmaceuticals and drugs.

So why did this issue come up for a resolution on April 1, 2013 in Delhi? Just one look at the progressed eclipse chart answers that question. The T-square configuration of the eclipse conjoins the progressed Ascendant [16vi] – MC [16ge] on this date.

The last question that we need to ponder over is why was  the judgement in favour of the struggling masses. The answer to that lies in the Venus transit  and the Ophiuchus Venus synodic theme which is about changing our existing male oriented paradigms of conquest and exploitation to one more in line with the feminine principle of compassionate and respectful caring of all life. Novartis comes from the Latin term "novae artes", which means "new arts" or "new skills". In essence, Novartis means utilizing scientific research, imagination, and new technologies to provide ever-greater benefits for humankind. Is this eclipse reminding the stakeholders of the company where their duty lies?
