Neptune eclipse and the Music of the Spheres

Cambridge, MA - Plato, the Greek philosopher and mathematician, described music and astronomy as "sister sciences" that both encompass harmonious motions, whether of instrument strings or celestial objects. This philosophy of a "Music of the Spheres" was symbolic. However, modern technology is creating a true music of the spheres by transforming astronomical data into unique musical compositions. Gerhard Sonnert, a research associate at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, has published a new website that allows listeners to literally hear the music of the stars. He worked with Wanda Diaz-Merced, a postdoctoral student at the University of Glasgow whose blindness led her into the field of sonification (turning astrophysical data into sound); and with composer Volkmar Studtrucker, who turned the sound into music.

Not a very great piece of news one would say. Most of us probably knew all long about the “Music of the Spheres” and those of us who are familiar with Dane Rudhyar’s writings know about his article Star Melodies[1]. However, what is more pertinent here is  the last lunar eclipse of May 25 connects the two. Notice that progressing the eclipse to May 30, the date of the  Harvard Press Release, brings the eclipse to the meridian- a standard procedure in mundane astrology by which we can discover dates when the eclipse effects are triggered.  The eclipse is square Neptune so that whatever happens  on that day will have a Neptunian flavour. Most of us are aware that Neptune is connected with a transcendent form of music. Dane Rudhyar explains that very well.

Neptunian Music
This music is primarily the expression of a deep yearning for the Infinite. That is, it reflects an urge to reach beyond all intellectual forms and objective realities of everyday life, and even beyond what I have called the social, cultural traditional — even beyond the "soul," if by soul we still refer to something which represents a definite; limited, personal or national sense of value.
Neptune is the vast ocean, the atmosphere, the infinitudes of galactic space. It signifies whatever is, or at least seems, limitless and transcendent. Neptune's keyword is "beyond." Therefore music, insofar as it takes us beyond the world of definite and concrete physical realities and into a magical realm of vibrations and dynamic emotional feelings, is typically Neptunian. [1]

So if we are able to perceive deeper meaning,  this eclipse is asking us to get beyond the limitation of intellectual forms and objective realities, beyond our limited sense of values and socio-cultural programming.
