No problem has been more insoluble
for Barack Obama than closing the detention facility at Guantánamo Bay .
But last week there seemed—outwardly at least—to be signs of progress. On July
24, the Senate held its first hearing on the matter since the earliest days of
the Obama presidency, and Democratic senators addressed the issue with a
passion and urgency that in recent years had given way to fatalism and
resignation. Earlier that day, the White House had delivered a two-page plan to
Congress explaining how it intended to close the facility. That alone seemed
like a significant break from Obama’s first bid to shut Gitmo, back in 2009.
The chart
for the Capricorn Ingress (the year chart) at Washington is shown above. The Pluto-Uranus square aligned with the meridian highlights the tension between the rights of
an individual (Uranus in Aries) versus the power of the State (Pluto in
Capricorn).
In addition
Pluto is part of a Yod [1] with Jupiter at the apex on the seventh house cusp. In
mundane astrology designated "enemies" are associated with the 7th
house.
With
Jupiter in the seventh house in a mundane chart the attitude towards those designated
enemies would be expected to be magnanimous.
Progressing
the Capricorn Ingress chart to July 24 for Guantanamo brings the progressed IC to the
conjunction with Saturn. In the Yod, Saturn (8sc40) is part of the ancient
Chinese asterisms T’ien-Lao, the Celestial Prison or T’ien-Wei, the Celestial Jail. Eta Corona
Borealis (7sc18) was the door of the prison. Alpha [Alphecca] (12sc28) was the jailer. It was said that when all stars were clearly
seen the prisons of the empire would be full, but if only seven stars were visible
many would be pardoned; alpha shining bright meant many prisoners, but if it
was faint many would be released [2].
Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto
: While things are “tough” (Saturn-Pluto) there is a hint that it will all work
out well (Jupiter) “in the end”; to endure difficulty to achieve something
positive – like a “broadening or freeing”
objective [3].
