General Giap
"When beggars die
there are no comets seen;
The heavens themselves
blaze forth the death of princes."
Shakespeare
Võ Nguyên
Giáp (25 August 1911 – 4 October 2013) was a General of the Vietnam People's
Army and a politician. Giáp was a principal commander in two wars: the First
Indochina War (1946–1954) and the Vietnam War (1960–1975). He participated in
the following historically significant battles: Lạng Sơn (1950); Hòa Bình
(1951–1952); Điện Biên Phủ (1954); the Tết Offensive (1968); the Easter
Offensive (1972); and the final Hồ Chí Minh Campaign (1975). Giap’s
opponents have suggested that he merits a place in the pantheon of great military leaders of modern times, alongside
such figures as Wellington
and Rommel. [1]
General
Giap’s Sun [0vi] was conjunct the royal star Regulus [29le], alpha Leonis, Lion’s
heart and Alphard [26le] , alpha Hydrae, the Water Snake’s heart.
From the heart, centre-of-being of
the Lion, comes strength, courage and authority. Fired up by inspiration, with
an intense need to win and overcome, their motto is “nothing is impossible”. Proud,
courageous, restless, daring, pioneering, ready to risk their necks for any and
every kind of eminence, fiercely aggressive, ready to die for their beliefs,
they readily put themselves and others in the line of fire…the desire to
dominate leads some to the glorification of a military ethos…children of the
Lion and Water Serpent inherit a warrior’s instinct: here are the chart
elements of the 4th century BCE conqueror, Alexander the Great. [2]
The radix
Sun is sextile Pluto [29ge] conjunct Betelgeuse, alpha Orion – the Great Warrior.
Orion – the Warrior
At General
Giap’s death the theme of the Great Warrior is brought out once again in the chart of the 3 November 2013 eclipse at
Hanoi . On the
Ascendant [21ge] is Bellatrix, gamma Orion. On the MC is Neptune
[2pi] conjunct the Chinese asterism Khi, that presided over death and demise. And
finally on the fourth house cusp, IC is Mars [11vi]. In mundane astrology the fourth house forms
the base of the society and its
traditions. It is a place which reflects nationalism and patriotism, it is the
folk-soul of the nation. With Mars here
there is an obvious connection to the military and battles that form the
folk-soul of the nation. Mars [11vi] is conjunct the star Zosma, delta Leonis,
which Diana Rosenberg associates with “great historical battles”. [3]
The eclipse
[11sc] is conjunct the stars of the Southern Cross. The cross is a symbol for
agony, struggle and martyrdom. In many ways it is also a beacon of hope referring
to a resurrection after death. It would
therefore appear to be a perfect symbol
for modern Vietnam
after the suffering of the wars.
