New Moon on Argo and the Italy boat wreck

Argo Navis

The forgotten tragedy of African migrants who pay with their lives for the desire to reach Europe became a human drama the world could no longer ignore, as hundreds perished in a matter of hours off the Italian coast. More than 300 men, women and children were feared drowned when their boat caught fire and sunk within sight of the Italian island of Lampedusa early on Thursday. The Mediterranean “was like a morgue”, according to witnesses at the scene.

In mundane astrology a horoscope drawn for a  lunation (New or Full Moon)  at any place contains vital clues about events at that place. Shown above is the chart for the New Moon at Lampedusa.  The New Moon [11li] is conjunct mu Velorum,[10li41]  in the sail of the celestial ship Argo Navis  implying that this New Moon could have something to do with ships. We notice that the New Moon [11li] is opposite Uranus [10ar] in the 9th house.  Since  Uranus has been associated with accidents [1]  and the 9th house is connected with long journeys by sea, H.S. Green in his “Mundane or National Astrology”   connects this position to “accidents with shipping”. Uranus at 10ar is conjunct stars of Fornax, the Furnace linked to fires. Mundane charts become very significant especially when planets conjoin any of the angles. In this case we find  Mercury[6sc] and Saturn [10sc] conjunct the IC [7sc]. On its own, Mercury-Saturn would be associated with transportation accidents. These conjoin the stars omega Carinae, of the celestial ship Argo Navis [7sc36] , Khambalia, lambda Virginis [7sc07] and kappa Volantis [7sc35],  the Flying Fish.

Diana Rosenberg mentions that the Virgin’s curiosity and Argo’s  restless wanderlust takes people on journeys fascinated by the lure of exotic lands. She also  associates this area with fires and  shipwrecks [2]. Regarding  stars in the constellation Volans, Nick Fiorenza adds:

The flying fish mythically articulates an extraordinary force, the ability to gather the momentum and build up the speed to make the leap into and glide through a new realm of experience, one not common to itself. Generally the flying fish is leaping into the air to avoid its predators, adding the element of strategically creating an alternative environment for a safe passage.

Volans – the flying fish

It can hardly be a coincidence that most of the African migrants on the boat were running away from persecution and war in their home countries.
