Astrology of the Preah Vihear conflict

Preah Vihear Temple

The chief of Cambodia's military forces on the Thailand border has called an emergency meeting after Thai aircraft were seen flying low around disputed land near the Preah Vihear temple. A helicopter and small spotter plane were seen early on Saturday. Tension on the border is high ahead of a verdict due on Monday by the UN's highest court on where the border lies around the ancient temple.
Preah Vihear Temple is an ancient Hindu temple built during the reign of Khmer Empire, that is situated atop a 525-metre (1,722 ft) cliff in the Dângrêk Mountains, in the Preah Vihear province, Cambodia. In 1962, following a lengthy dispute between Thailand and Cambodia over ownership, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague awarded the temple to Cambodia.

Mundane astrology, the study of heavenly cycles upon groups and nations is the most ancient branch of astrology. The affairs of a nation can be judged from the horoscope set up at the time of its official inauguration and various phenomena such as eclipses, lunations, great conjunctions, stations, comets and cardinal ingresses. Among these, cardinal ingresses have a traditional reputation as the most important mundane event.

Shown above is the chart for Sun’s ingress into the cardinal sign of sidereal Libra at Preah Vihar showing only planets relevant to our discussion. Notice that the powerful T-square of Pluto-Uranus-Zeus straddles the meridian axis. The meaning of the elements of the T-square from Martha Wescott [1] are :

Uranus-Pluto: Events that reflect power struggles

Zeus-Pluto: Events in connection with the military or weaponry used to dominate, threaten or confront others; to recognize psychological triggers – the way events can set off strong defenses, buried emotions and archetypes

On the MC [10li20] are stars Vindemiatrix, epsilon Virginis [10li06] and Caphir, gamma Virginis [10li18].  The Arabic word Caphir means an unbeliever in the one true God. It is easy to see why these people latch onto  religious absolutes. Some are tremendously troubled, turbulent, bullying, domineering and manipulative, longing for the Virgin’s purity they become self-righteous, “holier than thou” zealots fearing God’s displeasure, persecuting those who do not adhere to their ideas. The Arab astrologers called this area Al Muredin, “one sent out in the faith” indicating that this could be an area of religious persecutions. [2]

Finally, it is interesting to note that proceedings in the case concerning the Temple of Preah Vihear, between Cambodia and Thailand, were instituted on 6 October 1959. On that date the Sun was at 12 Libra conjunct the stars mentioned above!

With Mercury turning direct on 11 Nov., the day of the ruling, one expects a peaceful end to the conflict.
