Astrology of Philip Hoffman’s death

Philip Seymour Hoffman, the stage and screen actor who progressed from scene-stealing supporting roles to an Oscar-winning portrayal of writer Truman Capote in “Capote,” has died. He was 46. Mr. Hoffman was found dead in his apartment in Lower Manhattan shortly before noon Sunday, and his death is being investigated as a possible drug overdose, said Detective James Duffy, a spokesman for the New York Police Department.

Eric Francis at Planet Waves [1]  discusses  the chart for  Hoffman’s death (2nd Feb; 11:30 am) and his radix chart. Here we look at the lunar eclipse chart for 18 Oct 2013 and its progression to see its role in his death.  This eclipse took place with the Moon [25ar45] conjunct  the star Kurdah, xi Cephei, [24ar33] in the King’s chest. The Moon is also conjunct the asteroid Orpheus [21ar] linked to deaths.

Diana Rosenberg [2] writes:

From King Cepheus’ breast come extremely passionate, sensitive people – an extraordinary number of great artists, poets, playwrights, composers, actors and dancers have placements here – yet some mask their emotions and behave in a cold, autocratic way…their inner intensity may lead them to self destructive habits and/or addictions.

Eric notes that “there is a strong association between the actor and their roles. Hoffman’s  roles all seem to have something in common — a distant quality and an existential struggle… Lurking underneath the immediate scenario of the overdose was a sense of being trapped in his situation, and these charts have a feeling of deep isolation and the drive to break free”.

The story of  the briiliant but lonely monarch, King Cepheus is always linked to the sea monster Cetus and the trapped Princess Andromeda [3]. The sea monster is a symbol for the deepest, most threatening chasms of the psyche. A dweller in the abysmal ocean depths, it is a fundamental adversary of humankind, the threat and fascination of madness, perversion, addiction and all evil. Cepheus symbolises early attempts by the ego to control this monster while Andromeda represents the entrapment.

The Mars-Neptune opposition in the eclipse chart squares the horizon axis. This is a combination that astrologers know to be connected with bad drug reactions. Additionally, Mars[2vi06] is conjunct Al Sharasif, kappa Hydrae [2vi51]. Here tropical Virgo with its links to drugs and medicine combines with poisonous Hydra. Among other things, this area is associated with suicides [4].

Progressing the eclipse chart by the solar quotidian method to 2 Feb aligns the horizon axis with Mars-Neptune triggering the event.

P.S.

The connection between the event chart [2Feb; 11:30 am] and Hoffman’s chart is Saturn [22sc] just setting  and conjunct  his radix Neptune [21sc]. Both these are conjunct Unukalhai [22sc], alpha Serpentis about which Diana Rosenberg writes “danger from poisons or toxic substances…addictions and suicides”.

Shown here is a chart drawn for the current New Moon [10aq55] at NY.  The Moon is opposite the star Giansar of Draco [10le33] – associated with poisons. The  MC [22ar20] is conjunct the 18 Oct eclipse Moon [25ar]. Saturn [22sc31] on Unukalhai[22sc16] is  in a sharp quincunx to MC from the 5th house (actors, theatres, films).
