Ukraine crisis

The Euromaidan  is a wave of ongoing demonstrations and civil unrest in Ukraine, which began on the night of 21 November 2013 with public protests demanding closer European integration. The scope of the protests has since evolved, with many calls for the resignation of President Viktor Yanukovych and his government. On Tuesday, 18 Feb  at least 18 people were killed, including seven policemen, in the worst violence seen in weeks after Police stormed the main protest camp in Ukraine's capital, Kiev, which has been occupied since November.

Readers may like to revisit a previous post  [1] on the start of the Ukraine crisis on 21 Nov 2013. Here we look at the chart for the lunar eclipse of 25 May 2013 at Kiev where the eclipse axis powerfully squares the meridian and how that has contributed to the uprising and yesterday’s event. Notice that the eclipse Moon is placed in the 6^th house. About this position H.S. Green in his book “Mundane or National Astrology” writes:

Business and employment are unfortunate in some way; there may be unemployment, differences between master and man, threatened strikes and discontent.

It is well known that the current crisis in Ukraine started as a trade war with Russia that led to increase in unemployment as industrial production dropped. Therefore, Green’s assessment of eclipse in the 6^th applies perfectly.

Gracchi

The Sun [5ge] is conjunct Gamma (γ) Taurus, Prima Hyadum, [5ge48] the chief star of the Hyades.

"The Hyades are a stormy star group and was regarded as a separate constellation. Those born at this time take no pleasure in tranquillity and set no store by a life of inaction; rather they yearn for crowds and mobs and civil disorders. Sedition and uproar delight them; they long for the Gracchi to harangue from the platform, for a secession to the Sacred Mount, leaving but a handful of citizens at Rome; they welcome fights which break the peace and provide sustenance for fears. They herd their foul droves over untilled countryside, for this constellation also begot Ulysses' trusty swineherd (Eumaeus, or Eumaios, was Odysseus' swineherd ). Such are the qualities engendered by the Hyades at the rising of their stars". [Astronomica, Manilius, 1st century AD, book 5, p.308-311].

Progressing the eclipse chart to 18 Feb brings the Sun [5ge] to the IC triggering the event. The Sabian symbol for the Sun reflects the uprising.

What is rigidly bound in form tends to explode into formlessness. It may do so violently through revolution if socially oppressed.

Ukraine's President and opposition leaders agreed Friday to a deal meant to end the country's political crisis and bloody fighting that has left parts of Kiev's city center a war zone. President Viktor Yanukovych, opposition leaders and representatives of the European Union signed the deal Friday afternoon after a night of difficult negotiations that stretched well into the day.

On Friday, [21 Feb.] Saturn was occulted by the Moon. The chart for this event has a Sun-Neptune conjunction with the IC [3pi] conjunct the star Fomalhaut. Diana Rosenberg links this area with “actions to promote peace”.  

“This  is a place of idealism, activism, pacifism and the determination to right society’s wrongs: beside Czar Alexander II of Russia who freed the serfs, were suffragist feminists Susan B. Anthony and Carrie Chapman Catt French socialist statesman and peacemaker Aristide Briand of the Kellog-Briand pact, “Treaty for the Renunciation of War”. The stars were transited  in 1919 when the League of Nations was founded and when the Versailles peace treaty took effect in 1920.”
