US tornadoes and “The Great Storm Bird”

The Great Storm Bird and the Sun God

The April 27–29, 2014 tornado outbreak is an ongoing large and deadly severe weather event that has produced multiple long-track tornadoes and over a dozen fatalities. It is the first major US tornado outbreak of 2014. Numerous tornadoes ripped across parts of Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. A large, violent tornado struck Mayflower and Vilonia, Arkansas, causing severe damage and causing at least 12 deaths.

For the purpose of this post we will confine our attention to the most violent tornado that struck Mayflower, Arkansas. A basic rule of Astro-Meteorology requires one to look at the last cardinal ingress of the Sun. Shown here is the chart for the Sun’s entry into sidereal Aries on April 15.  Notice the powerful Grand Cross on the angles. The Ascendant [14li08] is conjunct the stars of Corvus, the Raven.

These stars were part of an archaic Chaldean lunar mansion whose patron god was Im-dugud-khu, “The Great Storm Bird” or “Storm Bird of the Evil Wind”  and China’s  Celestial Chariot T’ien-Tche governed wind. Records show that they were transited at the 1864 Bay of Bengal  cyclone that killed 50,000, the 1881 typhoon that hit Haipong, China, killing thousands; in 1970 when a huge cyclone hit Ganges delta with winds upto 150 kmph and a 50-ft high sea wave : about 300,000 to 500,000 were killed, thousands more died later of typhoid and cholera; in 1979 when 3 twisters combined into one giant tornado and hit Wichita Falls; in 1991 when “Tornado Alley” was hit by several twisters some with winds clocking 450 kmph and many others. Taurus eclipse raises male fertility concerns

Bull (Auroch) in Hall of the Bulls, Lascaux

Prescriptions for testosterone drugs have shot up around the world over the last decade. But there is growing concern that they are being over-used and may not be safe. There comes a point in many a man's life when he starts to feel a bit played-out. Tired. Grumpy. Apathetic. In the US, sports and news channels are replete with ads featuring handsome men with grey hair at their temples, too tired to play basketball and feeling irritable even when they're on a romantic date with a beautiful woman. BBC; April 27.

The bull was a potent symbol of power, strength, and fertility to the peoples of the ancient world. This symbolism was manifested in several iconographic motifs. These motifs reveal the bull as a manifestation of divine characteristics and as an expression of the power of man. The sign Taurus shown as a bull represents the same qualities in the zodiac. It is, therefore, not surprising that the news item on male testosterone appears around the time of a solar eclipse in Taurus.  Also notice from the eclipse chart that it sharply squares the meridian axis at London from where the news article originated.

That the eclipse could raise medical concerns about testosterone levels can be also seen from the asteroid Askalaphus.

The Askalaphus [5vi27] – Mars [11li52]  midpoint is 23vi10 making a sharp sesqui (135d)  aspect to the eclipse Sun within just 0d12m of arc.

Askalaphus: Contact with physicians; belief-systems about the health, symptoms and medical conditions.

Mars: Masculinity; independence; available energy; self-assertion and self-interests; testosterone levels etc.

In addition the eclipse [8ta52] is conjunct the asteroid Toro [9ta44]. The keywords for Toro given by Martha-Lang Wescott are given below. Notice that they are mostly connected with testosterone levels and the word “Toro” is a Spanish word for a fighting bull!

Toro: Machismo; bullying; intimidation; doing hard, physical work; strength (muscular); muscle flexing—psychologically or physically; challenging others; rough treatment; competitive; football; prizefighting; toughness.

Message of the eclipse

A solar eclipse on the South Node is essentially about ending a certain way of being that is no longer in tune with our future. If change is resisted an eclipse can become stressful or create upheaval bringing issues in the chart area that it falls to a crisis point.

With the South Node in Aries this eclipse is about ending the effects of testosterone. This can be a symbol for ending a chapter in human history connected with the human enthusiasm for war as evidenced in our collective history. With the North Node in Libra, the evolutionary intent of this eclipse lies in the general area of calming down and co-operating with others. To achieve that aim, we need to understand the insidious ways we conspire to keep situations more dramatic, intense and exhausting than they need to be. We need to stop classifying people as “friends or foes” and instead take the time to understand the complexity of human nature.

Eclipse exposes the dark side of Silicon Valley

It had promised to be an explosive trial, exposing a dark side of Silicon Valley. But on April 24th a settlement was reached between 64,400 tech workers and Google, Apple, Intel and Adobe Systems, which stand accused of conspiring between 2005 and 2009 to restrict the pay of their staff by, among other things, agreeing not to poach rivals' workers http://econ.st/1kaabKx

On April 13 – 14, Juno reached a conjunction with Eris while opposing Vesta. Since  Vesta relates to work and work related issues while Juno rules questions of rights and fairness in partnerships  this would  refer to discordance or  differences (Eris) surrounding financial matters and business relations.

The April 15 Total Lunar Eclipse occurred just into sidereal Libra conjoining  Vesta opposite the Sun-Juno-Eris conjunction. Shown above is the chart for the eclipse at Silicon Valley. Notice its  powerful placement on the meridian axis.  The Vesta-Moon conjunction took place between Mars and the North Lunar Node, creating one entire energetic directly in opposition to the stellium of planets including the Sun-Juno-Eris conjunction and the Mercury-Uranus conjunction. Thus the Lunar Eclipse became another significant dynamic of the Grand Square.

If we now include the star backdrop of the Full Moon, which was conjunct the stars Archturus and Spica, the cosmic message becomes clearer. Archturus, alpha Bootes is often shown as a herdsman protecting his flock. Symbolically this refers to the need for commitment to the fundamental nourishment required to support all life on Earth for its evolutionary fulfillment.

Archturus is the administrative seat responsible for the safe ascension of Earth and Humanity--the pure birth of the soul. Boötes / Archturus stands against the fallen corrupt powers of Benatnasch who have demonstrated the inability over and again to ensure such evolutionary fulfillment, with the continual destruction of the peoples of the Earth, and typical catastrophic outcomes. The body of Boötes stands between this pure lucida of the Virgin, while blocking the manipulations of corrupt Benatnasch and their diversionary tactics, embodied by the barking dogs (Canes Venatici).

In addition to the powerful Full Moon eclipse, the chart for the Crescent Moon of April 25, has the Grand Cross straddling the horizon axis. This implied that the  Grand Cross with  its Mars in Libra leg was putting pressure on all parties concerned to come to an understanding.

Khumba – the zonkey – illustrates the principle of reconciliation

REYNOSA, Mexico, April 25 (UPI) -- A rare but adorable cross-breed was introduced to the world this week at a zoo in Reynosa, Mexico. Khumba is the lovechild of Rayas, a female zebra, and Ignacio, a blue-eyed albino donkey. That makes Khumba a zonkey, one of only a few in the world.

The ingress of the Sun into the four cardinal signs are important events in mundane astrology. Shown above is the current sidereal Aries ingress of the Sun at Reynosa. Notice the powerful Uranus-Pluto-Jupiter-Mars Grand Cross on the angles.

Uranus-Pluto refers to transformations at a core level and this includes  surprising (Uranus) mutations (Pluto) within the genetic structure and coding of many forms of life within Nature.

About Mars in Libra, the fastest moving member of the Grand Cross, Jeff Jawer writes:

Step out of polarization to serve a higher cause. When you find yourself taking sides, making a judgment or a choice against anyone or anything, step back and imagine a third point outside the struggle. If you’re fighting with someone in your mind, picture a circle that contains both of you. Use your imagination to erase lines that keep you from peace and understanding. This doesn’t mean that you should abandon principles and avoid making choices. It’s simply about enlarging the process of analysis to seek a new way that overcomes conflict and, in the process, helps clear a path for humanity's next step.

A previous post was about the recent  Hamas-Fatah reconciliation [1] under the pressure of the Grand Cross. But Khumba – the zonkey – a beautiful evolutionary mutant  illustrates the same principle of reconciliation much better!

“Sharing economy” is the way forward

IT IS not hard to find evidence of the success of the “sharing economy”, in which people rent beds, cars and other underused assets directly from each other, co-ordinated via the internet. One pointer is the burgeoning of demand and supply. Airbnb, founded in San Francisco in 2008, claims that 11m people have used its website to find a place to stay. The Economist; April 26 http://econ.st/1mFXJ7V

Shown here is the chart for the Waning Crescent Moon phase at San Francisco,CA. Notice that the Cardinal Grand Cross straddles the horizon axis while the crescent Moon along with the star Markab, alpha Pegasus is on the MC.

Uranus and Pluto – the two slowest planets in the Grand Cross – define the process that is unfolding. Institutions (Capricorn) are breaking down (Pluto). Uranus in Aries is about a revolution in consciousness that frees the beliefs and behaviors that structure our lives from slavery to these crumbling institutions.

Here we find the courageous action of individuals (Uranus in Aries)  sharing their resources …pitting themselves against decaying and self-serving institutions and infrastructure  (Pluto in Capricorn) and overcoming their dependence on them.

About the star Markab, Nick Fiorenza writes

Markab, Alpha Pegasus, the primary star of Pegasus, is the first of four very principal stars creating the Great Square of Pegasus. The principles and qualities embodied in each of these four stars reveal the requirements for our psycho-physiological preparation to become free from the bounds limiting us from participating in a more fulfilling and purposeful expression in the world. This "refinement of self" allows us to rise above the bounds of the psychic-emotional entrapments common to collective human consciousness.

Discovery of “rogue” DNA at Crescent Moon

There's a civil war going on inside every one of the 37 trillion cells in your body. Now, University of Michigan scientists have uncovered how your cells keep this war from causing too much collateral damage. On one side of the battle: your "regular" DNA, which provides the day-to-day instructions for life. On the other side: tiny bits of rogue DNA that hide like spies between genes in your own DNA. From time to time, these rogue bits of DNA spin off a copy of themselves and "jump" to another DNA location – often causing harmful mutations when they land. How our cells fight off the effects of these rogue DNAs, called LINE-1 retrotransposons, has remained a mystery. But in a new paper published in the open-access journal eLife, scientists from the University of Michigan Medical School and Howard Hughes Medical Institute and colleagues have captured the action like battlefield reporters.[1]

The news is about the battle between “our regular DNA” and tiny bits of so called “rogue DNA”.  For a moment think of  a parallel. The current  Grand Cross in which Uranus in Aries (the rebel..the “rogue DNA”) is square Pluto in Capricorn (existing institutions or structures… “our regular DNA”).

Shown here is the chart for the Waning Crescent Moon of April 25 at Ann Arbor, Michigan from where the paper was published. Notice that the moon phase is significant for the place with the Sun [5ta26] on the MC [6ta29] semisquare the Moon [20pi26] and Venus [21pi44] both of which are conjunct the star Markab [23pi40]. *

Alpha (α) Pegasus, Markab, is a white star on the wing of the Flying Horse.
Pegasus is the Magical flying horse that uplifts or frees Andromeda from captivity brought on by her parents King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia. This interesting story symbolizes a break from our genetic coding. Nick Fiorenza explains:

The four stars of the Great Square hold the secrets of the Merkabah--body of light. Markab, , Alpha Pegasus, is of the physical cellular aspect of the Merkabah--literally referring to the corporeal physical body. Markab is the saddle, the physical vehicle upon which soul rides or expresses through to accomplish its Earthian mission. Markab brings to the forefront issues about our  cellular / genetic refinement-so that we are able to fly over the collective human dilemma / consciousness.

So it may be an error to classify the new discovery as “rogue genes” that serve no purpose and link them to “harmful mutations” when actually they may be serving as a stepping stone to a new order!

* Also notice that Uranus in the Grand Cross falls on the Sun-Moon midpoint.

John Paul II crucifix crushes man in Italy

A 21-year old man has died after being crushed by a crucifix erected in honour of Pope John Paul II in northern Italy. Marco Gusmini was killed instantly and one other man taken to hospital, Italian media reported. Part of the 30m-high (100ft) sculpture collapsed at a ceremony ahead of the Pope's canonisation. John Paul II and his predecessor, Pope John XXIII, are due to be declared saints on Sunday. The installation, near the town of Cevo, was designed as a large curved cross with a statue of Jesus Christ, weighing 600kg (1,320lb), fixed to the top. BBC April 24

Mundane astrology is the most ancient branch of astrology. The affairs of a nation can be judged in several ways. Among these, cardinal ingresses of  the Sun have a traditional reputation as  very important mundane events.  The angles of the ingress progressed on a daily basis can indicate events when they touch important planets or planetary configurations in the ingress chart. Shown here is the sidereal Aries ingress of the Sun at Cevo progressed to April 24, the date of the news item above. Notice the current Grand Cross on the horizon axis.

Uranus and Pluto – the two slowest planets in the Grand Cross – define the process unfolding. Institutions (Capricorn) are breaking down (Pluto). Uranus in Aries is about a revolution in consciousness that frees the beliefs and behaviors that structure our lives from slavery to these crumbling institutions.

The astrologer Dane Rudhyar called the three outer planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) Ambassadors of the Galaxy. They incite and invite us to go beyond the known. They awaken consciousness and alter how we see ourselves as creators through time. The square of Uranus to Pluto is sure to radically alter how we move and manifest, as spirits in a body. This is an exciting time to reinvent ourselves, and see what we're made of, what's possible.

A square is urgent, and with Uranus and Pluto, we have two of the great cosmic awakeners of soul force. The potential here is to rediscover who we are, and awaken powers that have been suppressed or dormant. Pluto's method is elimination, excavation, clearing out, and if the world seems covered in shadow, it's rising to be faced, confronted, transformed.

What's been stuffed down and denied is spilling out. Much that was in shadow, is being purged out into the open. The dumpster of denial, corruption and shadowy agendas is full. The ugly truth can no longer be contained, especially about institutions, monopolies, unholy alliances, hierarchies of power and industry. [1]

But perhaps the most interesting element in the chart is the star Acrux [12sc03] on the MC [11sc31].  Alpha (α) Crux, Acrux, is a triple star at the foot of the Cross  which by association is linked to Christ and Christianity  [2] [3]

"Crux is said to give perseverance, but many burdens, trials and responsibilities, together with much suffering and many hardships. In connection with rulerships of countries it may be noted that Brazil was named the Land of the Holy Cross by the discoverer Cabral on May 1st 1500, and that the constellation Crux has been represented on the postage stamps of that country".  [Robson, p.41.] [4]

Grand Cross and the Hamas – Fatah reconciliation deal

Rival Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas have announced a reconciliation deal, saying they will try to form a unity government in the coming weeks. Hamas and Fatah split violently in 2007. Previous reconciliation agreements have never been implemented.

Shown here is the chart for the Last Quarter Moon phase of April 22 at Gaza. Notice that the current cardinal Grand Cross straddles the horizon axis. Under the influence of this powerful  Grand Cross paradigm shifts are occurring. Old hurts are being put aside as Mars in diplomatic Libra square Jupiter in Cancer is bringing about a reconciliation to “family” disputes.

The Wyoming fire and the cardinal Grand Cross

A small town in western Wyoming was evacuated after an explosion and fire at a nearby gas-processing plant. The town of Opal's approximately 100 residents were evacuated as a precaution, said Lincoln County, Wyo., spokesman Stephen Malik. "There's still no reports of injuries," he said. "The town of Opal is evacuated as a precaution."The blast rocked Opal around 2 p.m. Mountain Time. As of 5 p.m. firefighters believed they had the fire under control, Malik said. USA Today, April 23

This news can serve as an example of the effect of the powerful Grand Cross involving Mars-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto that was exact on April 23 with all the planets in the Cross at 13 degrees of Cardinal signs. While the Grand Cross generally affects all of us on earth, it is more specific for a  place like Opal,Wyoming since it fell on the horizon axis at the Last Quarter Moon of April 22.  Shown here is the draconic chart for the Last Quarter Moon at Opal. Notice that  draconic Uranus [15v13] is conjunct the star Mizar [15vi53]

Zeta (ζ) Ursa Major, Mizar, [1] is a double star, possibly binary, brilliant white and pale emerald on the Tail of the Great Bear.

The astrological influence of the star Mizar
Supposedly, Mizar portends a Mars nature. The reputation of Mizar, if it is in maximal position in a mundane map, is that of being connected with fires of a catastrophic extent and mass calamities. [Fixed Stars and Their Interpretation, Elsbeth Ebertin, 1928, p.55.]

Also note the TNP Zeus as part of Grand Cross. In Uranian astrology Zeus stands for fuels, explosions and fires.

Since events in the outer world always have a deeper symbolic significance it may be worthwhile to ponder over what Nick Fiorenza has to say about the star Mizar and how its expression may be required in our lives.

Mizar, an overseeing predominant star of the Great Bear, embodies raw fiery energy that must express one way or another. Mizar must have a creative outlet, but for its proper expression, we must apply it with creative vision. Mizar brings attention to use of our creative energies; creative and destructive tendencies, and the fear to create lest it may result in destruction. Here we learn the nature of such volatile forces. Mizar, with averted alignments is also known for catastrophic fires or massacres. Mizar can however express quite artistically. Gunpowder can express as beautiful fireworks as well as devastating explosions. The expression of Mizar is always noticed in a grand way, in character with showy and dramatic Leo.

Indian Elections: Opening the Gates of Change

The main thing to understand here is that astrology is not concretely predictive, but archetypally predictive. That is, the birth chart and transits indicate which universal principles are emphasized, in what combination, and when. Richard Tarnas

With the above mentioned quote in mind let us look at the major progressions and transits in India’s chart.  There are two charts commonly used by astrologers (a)  Independence Aug 15, 1947; 0 00 hrs, Delhi (b) Republic chart 26 Jan 1950; 10: 15 am, Delhi.  The Republic chart was analyzed in a previous post [1]. Here we look at Independence chart from which we arrive at similar conclusions.

The most important directions in the Independence chart are (a) solar arc Sun [26li] in a forming square to radix Moon [27cn] (b) solar arc Uranus square [0vi] forming a square to radix Ascendant [0ge]

In a mundane chart the Ascendant and the Moon represent the public in general. A solar arc Uranus square the Ascendant means that the public is restless and may act in ways that are contrary to expectations. With the solar arc Sun square to Moon, the public (Moon) is reviewing its allegiance to authorities (the Sun). The masses having been stewing and recognize that they need to  readjust their external situation. Alan Leo, in The Progressed Horoscope, considered the period of the square to be very challenging and even "unfortunate". However, he wrote the following: "Viewed from a higher standpoint this is a good vibration, as it quickens the personality and calls out all its strength to battle with the changing fate; for the changes, although apparently disastrous, are for eventual good."

The April 15 lunar eclipse fell in hard aspect to the following entities  in India’s Independence chart  triggering the solar arc Sun  progression mentioned above. Look upon the solar progression as the hour hand of the clock and transits or eclipses as the minute hand. Obviously the hour strikes when both are in unison as they are here!

Amycus [24ar32]; Hades [26ar40]; Moon [27cn06]; Hybris [26li05]

MOON: the masses or the public in general
HADES:  debilitation or deterioration; the past or history; mistakes
HYBRIS: Expectation, glass-ceilings, limits-what one future-paces as their fate, their slot in life-and what can be expected of others; conditioned limitations.
AMYCUS: Possible change in one’s long held or fixed point of view when new data or insights are integrated that improve the current position.

Hades/Hybris - Amycus
People  will...expect to make mistakes...be sure that something bad is  happening...feel constrained by the past...or feel limited by their own  glass ceilings (or by the ones others have convinced them exist.)   You'll also see that people "don't have high expectations" (of others,  of situations, of outcomes,) and I guess the real problem here is that a  person's expectations strongly dictate what happens... Please note: These expectations CAN (and are apt  to be) WRONG! The presence of Amycus in the mix offers hope for a change in  long held points of view!

Regular readers will be aware that in April 2014 when India’s elections are underway, we are in the midst of a powerful Grand Cross involving Mars-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto. ( * )

The slowest moving planet in this pattern, Pluto, is the hub of this process. Its presence in hierarchical Capricorn is partially reflected in the increasing concentration of wealth that enriches the few at the top at the expense of the many in the middle and bottom economic rungs. It’s likely that social disorder will occur if we continue in this direction. And it’s common to blame the government and big corporations for this growing imbalance. Trust in institutions (Capricorn) is breaking down. But the deeper meaning in all of this is the need to reassess our internal institutions: the beliefs and behaviors that structure our lives instead of blaming others. [2]

Uranus-Pluto square, on the one hand, can bring attention to radical and self-destructive patterns  rippling through generations . On the other, it can motivate  mind-expanding change in the very foundation of consciousness that breaks us from very deep-seated and long-standing genetic, cultural and social behavioral patterns.

Saturn [21sc07] is currently transiting square the radix Sun [21le07]  in the Independence chart. A chart for the exact square on April 26 carries the Grand Cross powerfully on the angles.

P.S. A note for advanced readers

Another significant transit in the Independence Chart is Pluto [13cp] quincunx its  radix position Pluto-Saturn [13le] on the IC [14cp]. Some keywords that describe quincunxes are: redirecting, challenging, requiring adjustments or change. The IC or the 4th house cusp in a mundane chart  is the foundation or base of the society and its traditions. It is a place which reflects the culture or the folk-soul of the nation.  In his excellent essay “The Saturn-Pluto Synodic Cycles - A Historical Exploration 1851 – 2020”  Nick Fiorenza describes the stellar backdrop of the August 1947 Pluto-Saturn synod that that is relevant to the Indian Independence chart.

A Saturn-Pluto synodic cycle, in general, will be about societal structures of consciousness and how we learn about responsible use of power. It will be about our administrative systems governing the use of power. These cycles can also initiate a dismantling or destructive process of long-standing established administrative constructs and systems of belief so that we can evolve our societal structures. In the process, this can articulate as power struggles, wars and the like; but Saturn and Pluto will ultimately demand we take responsibility for the discord and destruction we have created.

Aug 22, 1947 - Saturn Pluto Synod
Geocentric conjunction: 1 trigger - Aug 10, 1947
Location: 18° 49' Cancer
Primary stars: Acubens of Cancer; Zeta Hydra, Dubhe of Ursa Major. This is also the exalted location in the ecliptic for Pluto.

Synodic Theme (abbreviated): A multifarious source of destruction: The Great Bear, Ursa Major, lies north of the Lion, but also extends west over sidereal Cancer, and slightly east of Leo, just into the cusp of sidereal Virgo. Ursa Major’s wide variety of stars fall into the ecliptic throughout these two signs. The Stars of the Great Bear are associated with the global scene and world powers. Dubhe, Alpha Ursa, embodies the pursuit for a greater vision beyond the accepted political-religious dogmas of the human world that keep humanity in darkness and delusion; and against the controlling global forces perpetuating that dogmatic rule. At a personal level, Dubhe asks us to do all we can to achieve the greater vision that we hold for the unfoldment of our lives--for the true nourishment, fulfillment, and freedom we seek. Dubhe asks us to emerge from the collective and our own personal dogmas (our belief structures) and our limiting life patterns that keep us bound in life scenarios that are less than those we truly want. Dubhe supports us to strive for a new and better future rather than merely staying reactive to the limitations we have already created and reinforce with our existing beliefs.

Acubens, Alpha Cancer, indicates entrapment in dogma. This can be the current political / religious beliefs of the times, as well as that created by our personal belief structures--the ideas we have about our lives and experiences we have in our lives. Acubens indicates a tenacious hold and stubborn resistance to release the patterns we hold that keep us entrapped in our limiting life scenarios.

Zeta Hydra lies immediately south of Acubens. Delta through Zeta Hydra and Pulsar CP0834 (which conjoins Gianfar of Draco, the poisoned place) create Hydra's head. Zeta Hydra and surrounding stars indicate a multifarious undermining source of destruction (every time Hercules took off one the Hydra's heads, it immediately grew another). The conjunction of Acubens and Zeta Hydra reveals that the repetitive undermining experiences in our lives are manifest from our own tenacious belief structures.

Associated Quasar 3C206 of Hydra, one of the brightest & closest quasars, suggest that although our dogmatic beliefs can take rather strange and unexplainable forms, they are not outside the realm of our own creation. They are however laser-like in their power. Quasar 3C206 reminds us to not be naïve to the powerful momentum of our beliefs and the undermining behavioral patterns they can create. This quasar tells us to not turn our backs on that momentum, to know it may take more than one attempt to overcome our dogma's hideous tenacity.

These three conjoining stars reveal that any experiences that repetitively undermine our greater fulfillment are due to the very dogmatic beliefs we hold crystallized within. They reveal that we must eradicate those beliefs along with the willingness to fight to achieve a greater vision for the evolutionary freedom and fulfillment we seek. Ultimately, any perpetuated undermining experiences occurring at a global level or in our personal lives serve to catalyze a breakthrough in human conscious, specifically to emerge from blinding following mass dogma that keeps us bound in human darkness and delusion. This area of the zodiak between the Scarab (or Crab) and head of Lion is where we find the free-thinkers willing to step from mass darkness and delusion, those willing to break the bounds of mass consensus and strive for a greater vision of cultural freedom

Astrology of the Korea ferry disaster

South Korean president Park Geun-Hye says the behaviour of the captain and crew of the Sewol ferry that capsized with 476 people on board  (many children from a school) was unacceptable and "tantamount to murder". Ms Park added that it was increasingly clear that the captain had unnecessarily delayed the evacuation of passengers as the ferry started sinking, and then "deserted them" by escaping first. The captain was arrested on Saturday along with a helmsman and the ship's relatively inexperienced third officer, who was in charge of the bridge when the ship first ran into trouble.

A well timed mundane national chart is always the best starting point for a major event. Shown here is  South Korea’s national chart. Currently the secondary progressed MC [16ar22] is opposite Mars [17li10] in the 5th house. Mars is conjunct Neptune [10li58]. The mundane 5th house rules children  as well as schools [1] while Mars/Neptune is an accident [Mars] at sea [Neptune]. Opposite this combination  is the TNP Admetus [20ar23] conjunct TNP Hades [28ar]. Notice that the April 15 eclipse with the Sun [25ar] which fell right at the midpoint of Admetus/Hades activated the entire radix axis.

Admetus/Hades [2]

There will be a number of situations where dependence on others [Admetus] , leads be mistakes [Hades].  And you  may see some events that strike you as meaning that because people just stood by and did nothing [Admetus], there was suffering [Hades].

In addition, two days before the accident on April 14, there was a Mars return just 6 days after a Mars-Sun opposition which represents the midpoint of the Mars retrograde cycle and the start of the Earth-Mars synod. A chart drawn for the Sun-Mars opposition at Seoul shows the stressful  Grand Cross involving Uranus-Pluto-Mars (a combination that has potential for accidents) straddling the horizon axis. Notice that Mars is within 2 degrees of the radix Mars in the mundane 5th house. Also the Ascendant is conjunct Uranus [12ar51] which in turn is conjunct 25 Ceti [12ar47] in the Sea Monster’s tail and Alderamin, alpha Cephei [12ar57].  Also influencing is Baten Kaitos [22ar] zeta Cetus (conjunct the Sun [18ar57]) – a star well known to be connected with shipwrecks [3].

The constellation Cepheus represents a King, in other words, those in authority. About the star Alderamin, alpha Cepheus, Nick Fiorenza writes:

Alderamin can expresses as denial, avoidance, or turning one's head from dealing with (what is causing) other people's entrapment with a flippant attitude to do anything about them. [4]

Avalanche on Mt.Everest and quake in Mexico

A morning avalanche near a base camp on the world's highest peak on Friday, April 18,  has left at least 12 Nepalese guides dead and left several others missing in what has become one of the deadliest accidents in Mount Everest's history.
A powerful earthquake struck Mexico on Friday, shaking buildings in the capital and sending people running out into the street, although there were no early reports of major damage. The earthquake with magnitude 7.5 occurred near Tecpan, Guerrero, Mexico at 14:27:29.40 UTC on Apr 18, 2014 .

Two major astrological events occurred on April 14th  within just two minutes of each other just a few days before the two events reported above.

April 14, 2014
23:45:08 UT – Sun enters sidereal Aries
23:47:26 UT - Pluto stations retrograde (13 cp 34'49")

A chart drawn for the Aries Ingress of the Sun (or the Pluto station) at Mt. Everest and at Tecpan de Galean, Mexico share a common feature – the Cardinal Grand Cross is on the angles. Notice that the TNP Admetus forms hard aspects to the Uranus-Pluto square.

Admetus-Uranus-Pluto: Attempts to contain or withstand tension finally erupts explosively [1]

Ralfee Finn [2] explains the deeper symbolic meaning of the Grand Cross thus:

The planets continue to align in a powerful configuration—a Cardinal Grand Cross—that symbolizes the potential to break through as well as break free from whatever enslaves. On April 21, this unusual alignment of Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto will be exact and separating, and as it pulls apart, situations held taut by tension of fractious polarization—real or imagined, physical or psychic, material or spiritual, personal and collective—release; some of the ties that bind will not hold, some will.

Paradigms are shifting at an alarming rate, and yet, because so much seems to remain the same, it’s hard to grasp the idea that so much more is shifting. Earthquakes of consciousness are occurring daily in the lives of so many people, and as a result of social media, for the first time in history, the tools for handling the upset and upheaval of shattering events, as well as the aftershocks of those occurrences, are available almost instantly. In the illusion of stillness, we are evolving at an ever-accelerating pace.

Uranus-Pluto Grand Cross and discovery of Exoplanet Kepler-186f

Kepler-186f is an exoplanet orbiting the red dwarf Kepler-186, 500 light-years from the Earth. It is the first planet with a radius similar to Earth's to be discovered in the habitable zone of another star. NASA's Kepler spacecraft detected it using the transit method, along with four additional planets orbiting much closer to the star (all modestly larger than Earth). Analysis of three years of data was required to find its signal. The results were presented initially at a conference on 19 March 2014 and some details were reported in the media at the time. The full public announcement was on 17 April, 2014. http://1.usa.gov/QsOfBr

Shown here is the chart for the sidereal Capricorn Ingress for  NASA headquarters in Washington. Notice the Uranus-Pluto Grand Cross with Mars, Moon and Jupiter.

On the Ascendant are stars on the billowing sails of the great ship Argo  and the wings of the Virgin and the Raven so that Diana Rosenberg associates this area with explorations and discoveries giving the following examples.

This was Venus when Columbus sailed from Spain in 1492 to discover the New World; the Sun in 1519 when an expedition led by Portugal’s Ferdinand Magellan left Spain to circumnavigate the world.

In addition, owing to the presence of the sail, sky and wings in this area there are air and space events too.

This was Sun and Jupiter  in 1957 when the USSR launched the Sputnik, the first artificial Earth satellite and the Moon at the moment the first human set foot on it in 1969. Even those who do not fly are drawn to the sky and light: there are chart elements here of the 17th century experimental physicist Robert Hooke, the first to build a reflecting Gregorian telescope; 17th – 18th century mathematician astronomer Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, builder of yantras, massive stone instruments for analysing the heavens; 19th century industrialist/ manufacturer  of optical instruments Carl Zeiss etc.

With Mars (now retrograde) the  Grand Cross in the Capricorn Ingress is moving to an exactness on April 21. Richard Tarnas links Uranus-Pluto aspects to technological and scientific breakthroughs so that we have one right now as the Grand Cross tightens and the progression of the Ingress chart realigns the Grand Cross with the meridian axis on April 17, the date of the NASA announcement.

A final point to note is the position of Jupiter [14cn] in the Grand Cross. It is  in tropical Cancer (home…earth)  conjunct  stars in the constellation of the Twins (an earth Twin!)

Iranian mother teaches forgiveness – the new form of justice

Balal was standing on a chair, blindfolded and with a noose around his neck, when the mother of the man he stabbed to death seven years ago approached him, the Guardian reports. According to some interpretations of Sharia law, the victim’s family participates in the punishment by pushing the chair from under the condemned man. But this time, the mother of the victim slapped Balal across the face and then helped the victim’s father remove the noose. Photographer Arash Khamooshi captured the unexpected moment on April 15 in the northern Iranian city of Nowshahr.

The total Lunar Eclipse of April 15 occurring on the same day as the event in the news obviously had a lot to do with it as we shall soon see. That the eclipse was prominent for the place can be seen from chart below. Notice the following:(a) the eclipse axis is sharply square the horizon axis (b) the current cardinal Grand Cross straddles the meridian axis. (c) Venus [10pi12] exactly sesquisquares the Ascendant [25cn11].

The Grand Cross and the eclipse axis have the following asteroids linked to them – Ceres [25li]; Tisiphone [4cp] with Pluto [13cp]; Child [16cn] with Jupiter [12cn]. When  we include Mars [16li] and the newly discovered dwarf planet Haumea [20li] into the picture – the Grand Cross and the eclipse axis merge.

Pluto/Ceres/Child  Radical circumstances that have affected mothers and children

Tisiphone was one of the Furies, and among her jobs was to  punish those who committed "crimes against family or kinship."

Pluto/Tisiphone: The  most devastating justice is forgiveness.[3]

The dwarf planet Haumea supports a new birth in consciousness or new level of awareness about what is truly life supportive and motivates action to reorient the current destructive use of power and resources into a nurturing force that supports and protects life, home and family. [1] In this instance, through her example the mother of the victim taught us that “an eye for an eye” justice needs to be changed.

Finally, Venus which aspects the Ascendant is conjunct eta Aquarii, in the Water Pourer’s urn and the face of the healing goddess Gula. About this area, Diana Rosenberg writes:

These souls must make a great choice: whether to remain aloof to the anguish of others (or cause it!), or to learn sensitivity and compassion through their own painful experiences, becoming “wounded healers” who develop an impulse to help, save and restore. [2]

Gabriel García Márquez : An astro-obituary

Gabriel José de la Concordia García Márquez (American Spanish: (6 March 1927 – 17 April 2014) was a Colombian novelist, short-story writer, screenwriter and journalist, known affectionately as Gabo throughout Latin America.

García Márquez started as a journalist, and wrote many acclaimed non-fiction works and short stories, but is best known for his novels, such as One Hundred Years of Solitude (1967), Autumn of the Patriarch (1975) and Love in the Time of Cholera (1985). His works have achieved significant critical acclaim and widespread commercial success, most notably for popularizing a literary style labeled as magic realism, which uses magical elements and events in otherwise ordinary and realistic situations. Some of his works are set in a fictional village called Macondo (the town mainly inspired by his birthplace Aracataca), and most of them explore the theme of solitude.

Márquez had his radix Sun [15pi] conjunct Achernar – a great first magnitude star in the far southern sky, marking the end of Eridanus, the River flowing into the Universal Sea. Aratus called Eridanus “The River of Many Tears but with the cleansing waters of Aquarius also here many work to alleviate the sufferings of others.

Eclipses tend to bring about endings and new beginnings especially if they fall on natal placements as the April 15 lunar ecplise   probably did for Marquez whose radix Moon for a noon birth is 26ar. The eclipse Sun [25ar] was conjunct Kurdah [24ar23], xi Cepheus in King Cepheus’ breast [1]. Cepheus is portrayed as a solitary, scholarly and cultured monarch [2] so that it is easy to see why most of  Marquez’s work explore the theme of solitude.

About the stars of the constellation Cepheus, Diana Rosenberg writes:

From King Cepheus’ breast come extremely passionate, sensitive people – an extraordinary number of great artists, poets, playwrights, composers, actors and dancers have placements here…. here are 1st century BCE Roman poets Ovid, Horace and poet Martial, 14th century lyric poet Petrarch, Norwegian rustic  poet  Aasmund Vinje, poets Wordsworth, Whitman, Verlaine, Dryden and many others.

The lunar eclipse of April 15 occurred just a day after the Sun’s entry into sidereal Aries. A chart drawn for the Ingress at Mexico City has the current much talked of  Cardinal Grand Cross with Uranus-Pluto on the angles. The Cardinal Grand Cross (*) symbolizes the potential to break through as well as break free from whatever enslaves. Marquez’s soul chose to break free from the confines of the body.

[2] Secrets of the Ancient Skies; Diana K. Rosenberg (v.1, p.97)

(*)  In the draconic zodiac,  the Grand Cross (exact on 21 April)  occupies 15 degrees of the mutable signs straddling Marquez’s Sun (15pi) and Achernar…the River Eridanus flowing into the Universal Sea.
