New moon brings change of government in Egypt

Cairo (CNN), May 30  -- Former Egyptian military chief Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is poised to win his country's presidential election in a landslide -- though the legitimacy of his victory is already being questioned. Exit polls suggest el-Sisi won 95.3% of the vote, while opponent Hamdeen Sabahy garnered only 4.7%, according to data from the Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Research and the Egyptian TV channel MBC Masr. Egypt's state-run Ahram Online news agency reported an even more lopsided margin, based on unofficial results, with Sabahy only getting 3.5% of the vote.

The mundane horoscope of Egypt is taken by most astrologers as  18 Jun 1953, 23:30, GMT +0:00;  Cairo Egypt, 30°N03', 031°E15' [1]

The table above shows  that the “hour hand”  solar arc Pluto square the MC is the one responsible for the drastic changes taking place in the government.  We must not forget that for all practical purposes, Pluto is also conjunct Saturn which is square Uranus on the IC. This combination can be interpreted as breakthrough in a  long term problematic political situation. With transit Jupiter (“minute hand”) triggering this combination, there is a hint that all will work out well in the end.

The New Moon of May 29, places the Cardinal Grand Cross on the meridian axis. A powerful configuration like a Cardinal Grand Cross symbolizes the potential to break through as well as break free from whatever enslaves. On April 21, this unusual alignment of Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto was exact and separating, and as Mars now moves forward in direct motion it pulls apart, situations held taut by tension of fractious polarization.

The New Moon [8ge] makes a gentle trine to Mars [9li].  For stars conjunct Mars on the MC, Diana Rosenberg writes, “These stars bring about major changes in laws, mores, governments and ways of thinking..”

Rape and murder of Dalit teens at New Moon

Four people, including a policeman, were arrested Thursday (May 29)  in the gang rape and killing of two Dalit teenage girls in northern India.

The girls, cousins ages 14 and 15, disappeared late Tuesday and their bodies were found hanging from a tree in Kata, a village in the Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh state, according to DNA India, a national newspaper. Dalits belong to a caste near the bottom of the Hindu system and have historically faced widespread discrimination in the country. May 29,IB Times

The May 29 New Moon chart for Badaun is shown here.  It is very significant for the place since it is exactly on the IC. The New Moon  is square Neptune and conjunct the stars of Hyades i.e. gamma (γ) Taurus, Prima Hyadum, the chief star of the Hyades and six stars situated on the face of the Bull. This is one of the areas Ptolemy mentioned as exhibiting “complete depravity” in sexual matters. Modern writer Elsbeth Ebertin concurs when she writes “staggering increase in sexual urge, a dissolute life, excessive and licentious ways. May exploit other human beings in quest of power.”

Diana Rosenberg further confirming this writes:

“The dark side of Perseus and the charging Bull is sexual depravity, an avidity for slaughter and a cruel disregard for those seen as “different;”  murderers with planets here include serial killers Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy and David Berkowitz; football star accused O J Simpson; strangler Donald Kinsman; torturer/ murderer of children Ian Brady; assassin Sirhan Sirhan. This was Pluto during 1888 London Jack the Ripper murders and many others.”

Explosion on Japanese oil tanker

The Celestial Ship Argo

Tokyo (CNN) -- An explosion on an oil tanker off the Japanese coast set off a huge fire Thursday [May 29] and left the vessel's captain missing. Ships and aircraft battled the blaze on the Shoko Maru, a 998-ton tanker anchored about 5 kilometers (3 miles) off the port of Himeji in western Japan, the coast guard said.

Shown here is the chart for the New Moon of May 29 at Himeji, Japan. Notice that the New Moon  squares Neptune (oil) which forms a quincunx to Mars/Zeus (fires and explosions) that is part of the stressful Grand Cross.

But why in Himeji?  The energies of any planetary configuration find expression at a place only when linked to the horizon or meridian axis. Here we find Uranus and TNP Zeus of the Grand  Cross in sharp quincunx aspect to the horizon axis. The nature of Uranus is explosive and unexpected; while Saturn deals with structures and boundaries so that difficult  Uranus-Saturn aspects are linked to accidents.

But why on a ship? On the Descendant conjunct Saturn [18sc42] is the star I Carinae, [18sc17]   in the keel of the Celestial Ship Argo!

Goddess Diana reveals herself in West Dundee accident

Diana Goddess of the wild beasts and glens

In Roman mythology, Diana  was the goddess of the hunt, the moon and birthing, being associated with wild animals and woodland, She is often depicted running through  sacred woods with deer

WEST DUNDEE, Ill. (AP) -- A suburban Chicago woman is grateful her family is safe after a 200 pound deer leapt from an overpass, landing on their minivan as it traveled along an Illinois interstate.    Heidi Conner tells The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald ( ) that the doe came to rest in the middle of the West Dundee family's Chevy on Sunday. She and her four children were traveling about 70 mph on the Jane Addams Tollway.

Sunday’s  Waning Crescent Moon was significant for West Dundee as it was placed in a sharp sesquisquare to the Ascendant. The Ascendant [4sa37] was conjunct the star Kajam, omega (ω) Hercules. A Latin epithet for Hercules was saltator, “leaper” and was associated with dancers, acrobats and sports champions. The Sun [3ge46] and the asteroid Heracles [2ge27] were conjunct the Descendent while the Moon [18ar46] was conjunct Uranus [15ar13] and the asteroid Diana [19ar03] – an asteroid that Martha Wescott associates with animals. So we have a leaping (Hercules) animal (Diana) here!.

Finally, Martha Wescott’s [1] interpretation for Diana/Uranus sums it up perfectly.

There'll be upsetting incidents or accidents that are somehow connected  to the outdoors or/with animals.

New Moon reveals incurable mental ailments linked to war

“In war, whichever side may call itself the victor, there are no winners, but all are losers”. (Arthur) Neville Chamberlain   Speech at Kettering, 3  Jul.

The bloodstained floor of his father’s garage is a long way from the Iraq streets where Isaac Sims served two tours of duty in the U.S. Army’s famed 82nd Airborne Division, but it was there that the violence finally caught up with him.

Tortured by symptoms of PTSD, turned away by an overbooked Veterans Administration hospital—his mother says she pleaded with doctors to let him sleep on the hospital floor—Sims was shot by Kansas City police on Sunday after they answered a neighbor’s 911 call. Police say Sims was firing a gun from inside his parents’ home and was killed when he moved to the garage and leveled the weapon at the SWAT team.

Family members don’t believe that the 23-year-old veteran was a threat to police. “With his sniper training, if he was shooting at them he would’ve hit them,” his sister Shawnda Anderson told TIME. But everyone could agree that the root cause of the confrontation was that Staff Sergeant Sims was falling to pieces, and felt like he had nowhere to turn. TIME, May 27

The news comes to us around the New Moon. The chart for the New Moon of May 28 is significant for Kansas City, since it is placed on the MC. It is conjunct the stars of the Hyades – a stormy group [1].

Gamma (γ) Taurus, Prima Hyadum, is the chief star of the Hyades; six stars situated on the face of the Bull. The Hyades are: this star gamma (γ, Prima Hyadum), theta1 (θ1), theta2 (θ2), delta (δ Hyadum 2), and epsilon (ε Ain). Some include alpha (α Aldebaran).

The Hyades were the seven daughter of Atlas and Aethra, half sisters of the Pleiades, with whom they were entrusted by Jupiter with the care of the infant Bacchus/Dionysus. They were placed among the stars as a reward for their sisterly love, which was evinced by their sorrow at the death of their brother Hyas who was drowned in a well [in another version he was killed by a wild beast in Libya]. The Roman poet Ovid (43BC.-17AD) records that the sisters were grief-stricken and their tears fall on us as rain.

With Sun: Evil disposition, disturbed mind, failure in study, muddled thinking, misfortune, murderer or murdered, death by blows, stabs, shooting, beheading or shipwreck. [Robson*, p.189.]

For the Hyades, Diana Rosenberg includes [2]:

Intensely emotional loners, their unstable, stormy passions makes daily life a melodrama. Brooding and resentful, in some cases they may be persecuted sometimes leading to ferocity and violence

Neptune [8pi] , the planet associated with mental disintegration, is square the New Moon [8ge]. For stars in this area around 8 Pisces, Diana Rosenberg writes:

May suffer a great battle with pessimism and struggle to keep themselves from despair. India’s nakshatra Satabhisaj means “Requiring a Hundred Physicians”

(One can extrapolate and imagine that the problems here are perhaps almost incurable.)

On the MC [13ge] are stars of Orion – the constellation most associated with the military. Diana Rosenberg lists, “injuries, wounds, disabilities, insanity” among other issues here. Meanwhile on the descendant [15pi] is the star Achernar. This is a first magnitude star that marks the end of the River Eridanus. Aratus called Eridanus “The River of Many Tears. It has been linked to battles, massacres, acts of violent religious intolerance, physical afflictions and brain ailments [3].

If we put the pieces together, it is not too difficult to see the  Iraq War with all its brutality as the cause of the incurable sorrow and subsequent death of Isaac Sims.

Mawlānā Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī – An Astroprofile

When I am dead, seek not my tomb in the earth, but find it in the hearts of men

- Rumi

Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī, Mawlānā or Molānā (Persian: مولانا‎, meaning Our Master), Mawlawī or Molavi (Persian: مولوی‎, meaning My Master), and more popularly in the English-speaking world simply as Rumi (30 September 1207 – 17 December 1273), was a 13th-century Persian poet, jurist, theologian, and Sufi mystic. Iranians, Turks, Afghans, Tajiks, and other Central Asian Muslims as well as the Muslims of South Asia have greatly appreciated his spiritual legacy in the past seven centuries. Rumi's importance is considered to transcend national and ethnic borders. His poems have been widely translated into many of the world's languages and transposed into various formats. He has been described as the "most popular poet in America"[ and the "best selling poet in the US".

It was his meeting with the dervish Shams-e Tabrizi on 15 November 1244 that completely changed his life. From an accomplished teacher and jurist, Rumi was transformed into an ascetic.

Rumi believed passionately in the use of music, poetry and dance as a path for reaching God. For Rumi, music helped devotees to focus their whole being on the divine and to do this so intensely that the soul was both destroyed and resurrected. It was from these ideas that the practice of whirling Dervishes developed into a ritual form. His teachings became the base for the order of the Mevlevi which his son Sultan Walad organized. Rumi encouraged Sama, listening to music and turning or doing the sacred dance. [1]

Shown here is the horoscope for Rumi drawn for noon 30 September 1207 at his birthplace Vaksh, Tajikistan.  The most notable thing in this chart is the conjunction of the Sun [13li] with the star Spica [13li]. Alpha (α) Virgo, Spica, is a binary, brilliant flushed white star marking the Ear of Wheat shown in the Virgin's left hand.  About this star Diana Rosenberg writes:

In India, it was the single determinant star of the asterism Citra, ruled by Tvastr. Valerie Roebuck writes of Citra’s ruler, the divine Carpenter: “Tvastr and his children possess maya, the power of making and shaping the way others see the world that is a form of magic.” Usually cultured and well-educated, they often have literary, artistic, and (especially) musical ability – they seem to reach out and grasp inspiration from the stars themselves – words and music pour forth from them as from a deep well spring.

The other planetary aspects in the chart are outlined below [4].

Sun conjunct Poseidon

Fulfillment through religion, metaphysics or living according to one’s principles; important revelations or inspiration through integration of new ideas; aware of tranquillity through the relationship between body and spirit; to see that receptivity to spirit can cause some transparency or fragility of the body; to understand the power of the astral plane and to find fulfilment through study or the spiritual.

Mercury conjunct Poseidon

Inspired words or writing; spiritual writing or thinking; receptivity to spiritual ideas

(Sun conjunct Poseidon) semisquare Uranus
Sudden flashes of genius – of intuition or “channelled” insight; clairvoyance; to hear of the bolt out of the blue that deals with new ideas or spiritual awareness; ideology or beliefs inherent in motivating change or social movements or that is the organizing / unity principle in a group or between friends.

Using the astrological principle of “translation of light” we can say that for all practical purposes Sun-Poseidon-Mercury conjunction is opposite Neptune-Hades which is square Saturn. So although it may not look like it,  we are dealing with a loose T-square with Saturn at the apex of the T.

The chart for November 15, 1244, the date of Rumi’s meeting with Shams Tabriz is shown here. The Neptune-Apollon conjunction (also conjunct his radix Saturn) is trine Pluto-Poseidon and quincunx Zeus. Notice how the transit Sun triggered the combination.

Neptune-Poseidon: to be susceptible to spiritual influences – there is heightened receptivity to the unconscious and the emotions of others

Pluto-Poseidon: to see mental metamorphosis; to recognize the power of ideology, religion, persuasion or beliefs – and to see attempts to influence people through these things; to see ideas create radical changes; to understand ego surrender in a spiritual context

Apollon-Poseidon: opportunity to teach or share new ideas

Zeus-Poseidon: to see ideas, convictions, religion or morals as the basis for enthusiasm or creativity; creative inspiration

Since all the transit activity was focused on Saturn, it may be interesting to look at Mirzam, the star conjunct Saturn.

This star Mirzam or beta (β) Canis Major, was often combined by the Arabs with the star beta (β) Canis Minor (Gomeisa), and these two beta stars together were titled "The Announcers" [2]. Mirzam provides a message to redirect our focus and daily efforts to prepare and become ready for a greater change to come, for a greater action, involvement, or event, an arrival of global proportion [3].

End of the road for the “Ambassador” car

The maker of the Ambassador has halted production of the car, the choice of Indian officialdom, blaming weak demand and a lack of funds, and casting doubt on the future of a vehicle that has looked the same for nearly six decades. Hindustan Motors said it had suspended work at its Uttarpara plant, outside the eastern city of Kolkata, until further notice. Guardian, May 25

The news was announced by the Hindustan Motors’ management on Saturday, May 25, 2014. Exactly a year ago there was a lunar eclipse on May 25, 2013 so that transit Sun had returned to its own place, acting as a trigger for the eclipse.

Often it’s the transit of a fast-moving planet over the eclipse degree that awakens the rabbit…. Eclipses bring matters to a turning point,  whether they’re matters of love, loss, financial changes – or conflict. [1]

The chart for the eclipse drawn for Kolkata is shown here. Since it is placed in angular houses [4 – 10] it is considered important for the place.

The eclipse Sun [4ge08]  in the 10th house was not only in tropical Gemini – a sign associated with cars but conjunct the asteroid Phaethon [2ge39], an asteroid that specifically refers to cars [2].

The eclipse Moon [4sa08] was in fourth house which in mundane astrology, among other things, linked to the end of things [3]. It was also conjunct the star Yed Posterior [3sa43]. Epsilon (ε) Ophiuchus, Yed Posterior, [4] is a red star in the left hand of the Serpent Bearer. With Zeta (ζ Han), it  marked the Akkadian lunar asterism Mulu-bat, the "Man of Death". Among other things research shows this star to be connected with death or endings.

Finally, the eclipse axis is square Neptune [5pi20] in the eighth house also linked to death or endings.

With the stars conspiring against the “Ambassador”, did it really have a chance?

History in the stars : The US Gold Rush

A gold rush is a period of feverish migration of workers to an area that has had a dramatic discovery of gold deposits. Major gold rushes took place in the 19th century in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, South Africa, and the United States, while smaller gold rushes took place elsewhere. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, there were several major gold rushes. The first significant gold rush in the United States was in Cabarrus County, North Carolina (east of Charlotte), in 1799 at today's Reed's Gold Mine. The Reed Gold Mine is located in Midland, Cabarrus County, North Carolina, and is the site of the first documented commercial gold find in the United States.

Solar Eclipses are very powerful New Moons that are known to herald significant new beginnings. Here we will examine  how the US gold rush of 1799 can be seen in the Total Solar Eclipse of October 28,1799 drawn for Midland, North Carolina. Notice that the eclipse [5sc20]  is significantly placed on the MC [9sc12]. The North Node [6ta44] is conjunct the star Schedir. Alpha (α) Cassiopeia, Schedir, is a multiple and slightly variable star, 2.2 to 2.8, pale rose, on the left breast of the Queen.

The astrological influences of the constellation Cassiopeia given by Manilius [1]:

"Cassiope will produce goldsmiths who can turn their work into a thousand different shapes, endow the precious substance with yet greater value, and add thereto the vivid hue of Jewels. From Cassiope come the gifts of Augustus which gleam in the temples he consecrated, where the blaze of gold rivals the sun's brightness and the fires of gems flash forth light out of shadow. From Cassiope come the memorials of Pompey's triumph of old and the trophies which bear the features of Mithridates: they remain to this very day, spoils undimmed by the passage of time, their sparkle as fresh as ever”.

"From Cassiope come the enhancement of beauty and devices for adorning the body: from gold has been sought the means to give grace to the appearance; precious stones have been spread over head, neck, and hands and golden chains have shone on snow-white feet. What products would a grand lady like Cassiope prefer her sons to handle rather than those she could turn to her own employments? And that material for such employment should not be lacking, she bids men look for gold beneath the ground, uproot all which nature stealthily conceals, and turn earth upside down in search of gain; she bids them detect the treasure in lumps of ore and finally, for all its reluctance, expose it to a sky it has never seen. The son of Cassiope will also count greedily the yellow sands, and drench a dripping beach with a new flood; he will make small weights to measure the tiny grains, or else will collect the wealth of gold-foaming Pactolus [Pactolus]; or he will smelt lumps of silver, separating the hidden metal and causing the mineral to flow forth in a running stream; otherwise he will become a trader of the metals produced by these two craftsmen, ever ready to change coinage of the one metal into wares of the other. Such are the inclinations which Cassiope will fashion in those born under her" [Astronomica, Manilius, 1st century AD, p.343.]

But what is even more astounding is the Sabian Symbol [2] for the degree of the eclipse [5sc20]

5-6 deg Scorpio: The Gold Rush Tears Men Away From Their Native Soil

Iran earthquake and the Taurus eclipse

Residents in the United Arab Emirates have reported tremors across the country, after a 5.22 magnitude earthquake  struck Qeshm in Iran on Tuesday morning. The UAE’s National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology confirmed the Iran earthquake to local news site Emirates 24|7. It was also confirmed the epicenter was 60km east Qeshm in southern Iran. Al Arabiya News; Tuesday, 27 May 2014

Earthquakes are found to be associated with eclipses and important planetary conjunctions and oppositions. This becomes especially true if they fall very close to the line of horizon i.e. the cusps of the first and seventh houses, or of the meridian i.e. the cusps of the tenth and fourth houses. Of these two lines, that of the meridian is more important; and that of the lower meridian i.e. the cusp of the fourth house is the most important of all.  In addition to this, certain of the zodiacal signs are more closely associated with earthquakes than are others. The four fixed signs are very important in this respect; and of these Taurus and Scorpio are more often related to great shocks of earthquake than are any other signs, when eclipses or important conjunctions occur therein, or when oppositions or squares are thrown to major planets therein. H.S.Green, Mundane or National Astrology

H.S. Green’s book on Mundane Astrology written around WWI is still considered a bible of sorts amongst astrologers.  In addition to the rules mentioned above milder earthquakes can also occur if the eclipse aspects the angles especially the fourth cusp (IC).  Here the eclipse occurred in Taurus and formed a sharp quincunx to the IC. Also note that at the time of the eclipse, the very stressful Cardinal Grand Cross of Mars-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto was on the angles and on May 20, Mars [9li]  stationed direct on the IC [8li]  signalling the “tension release phase” of the Grand Cross.

Progressing the eclipse chart by the solar quotidian method brings the MC to a conjunction with the eclipse (within less than 2 degrees) on May 27, the date of the event. Also on the night of May 26 (17:06 IT) transit Moon [8ta52] triggered the solar eclipse.

The rise of right-wing politics in France

Paris, France (CNN), May 26 -- The headlines scream: "Political tsunami," "earthquake" and "big bang." European elections may have taken place in 28 different countries, but the results in just one of them proved the big story of the night. Who and what are we talking about? Marine Le Pen's Front National extreme-right party came top in France's European elections, with 25.41% of the vote. This is a historic achievement for the 46-year-old daughter of Jean-Marie Le Pen, the party's founder. Listening to French radio and television through the night, there was no doubt that France's whole political class and commentators had never thought such thing possible, at least not on that scale. Le Pen's triumph reveals the collapse of national trust in the traditional Right and Left parties which have governed France for three generations since the beginning of the Fifth Republic in 1958.

As readers are aware, we are currently going through a Uranus (Aries) square Pluto (Capricorn) aspect . The significations of the various elements are as follows:

Uranus has a general influence over rioting and outbreaks of political tension. Right-wing political ideas, free-market enterprise, fascism, and the urge towards individualism. the planet of sudden awakening, enlightenment, shock, lightning-like illumination and destruction of the old. [1]

Pluto is the planet of deep soul energies, of that which is buried, repressed, and hidden, “the underneath,” archetype of the unconscious and its power, and of the drive for power (often unconsciously motivated), the process of death and rebirth

Among other things, Aries is a sign of selfishness while Capricorn  rules world structures such as government, politics, and the corporate world.

The following extract from an article [2] entitled “Uranus square Pluto – Right Wing Fanatical Governments”  explains the current energies at work:

Uranus square Pluto, causes conflict and quarreling, so that those on opposite sides of the argument get so worked up that they fight hard to stop each other from enacting even the correct choices. The Uranus square Pluto is the reason why the left and right of politics in all countries are hardening their positions, constantly insulting one another and are in no mood to compromise on anything, even when commonsense and logic says they should. The darker side of human nature is trying to overthrow common decency and compromise towards others.

Uranus in Aries can lead to religious or political fanaticism (e.g. Nazi Germany), it can also trigger the urge for individual freedom.

And yet there is some good news amongst all the doom and gloom. Uranus and Pluto are now in a waxing square (Uranus moving away from Pluto). That is the incredibly agonizing pain of birth, not death. :)

The sidereal Capricorn Ingress chart (the Annual Chart) at Paris is shown here. Notice the slightly skewed Grand Cross straddling the meridian axis. Regular readers will recognize that this implies the possibility of major changes for the government. But when? This can happen, among other things, when transits trigger the chart. On May 20, Mars [9li]  stationed direct opposite Uranus on the IC [9ar].

As Mars separates out of this celestial formation, it signals what might be best understood as the “tension release phase” of the Grand Cross, a phase that is normally characterized by action. There are decisive acts,  intended to facilitate personal and collective liberation as many of us strive to break free from whatever enslaves.

And in the last couple of days the transit Moon triggered the Grand Cross as shown the table below!

Astrology of Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony

When Narendra Modi takes oath on Monday, he will be the first Indian prime minister perhaps whose inauguratioon will become a globally-watched event. The invite sent to the regional leaders is being seen as a show of strength for the new dispensation. In the presence of government heads and leaders of eight countries, Narendrabhai Damodardas Modi, 63, will be sworn in by President Pranab Mukherjee at a grand, open air ceremony, attended by about 4,000 guests, including foreign diplomats, in the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the presidential mansion, that will be watched throughout India and in international capitals.

Taking off from  previous posts [1] [2] we will look at the cosmic energies at work at the time of Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony [May 26, 2014; 6:00 pm; Delhi]. As always we must remember that  the cosmic energies whisper quietly in our ears. It is up to us to listen or reject what those energies would have us do.

Shown here is the horoscope for the time chosen for the oath of office.  A few things that catch our attention. Firstly Saturn is conjunct the Ascendant and the star Zubeneschamali. An extract from a previous post [3] explains the dynamics of this star.

This particular cycle is extra significant because Saturn is near its exalted location in the ecliptic and it involves two principal Saturn-related stars –  Zubenelgenubi [15sc17] and Zubeneschamali [19sc35] (Alpha and Beta Libra) that form the balance or scales of Libra…..Think of  a repetitive karmic pattern as in going round in circles and then at some time being released from this pattern by moving into a spiral.

Secondly, Saturn is part of a Water Grand Trine with  Jupiter [19cn] and Chiron [18pi]

Jupiter [19cn] is conjunct the star Castor, alpha Geminorum [20cn] which was part of the vedic Nakshatra Punarvasu, “The [Two who are] Good (or Prosperous) Again”. Volguine has “Brothers Reunited” If we recall that Castor and Pollux, the Twins of Gemini, are often shown fighting, this Nakshatra points to the possibility of an end to disagreements. We can think of several possibilities here e.g. an administration that rises above the past religious discrimination  or even some kind of a step forward in Indo-Pak relationship …but once again these are possibilities shown by the cosmic energies. Human will is required to make them a reality.

Chiron, the planet often referred to as ‘The Wounded Healer’, is conjunct the ancient constellation of Gula, the goddess of healing,  the cleansing waters of Aquarius and Ankaa, the ever-regenerating Phoenix offering renewal and healing.

There is hope but can there be certainty – No. As astrologer Michael Conneely [3] points out:

Grand Trines need conscious working at, otherwise they will become the ‘ruined crop’ …... The risk is (as Trines are lazy aspects) that you may lazily see no need to develop new qualities and approaches, putting too much reliance on your conditioning or illusory life slogans or the obvious, superficial talents which you already possess.

Pope Francis in Bethlehem with a message of peace

When the world says, “Give up,” Hope whispers, “Try it one more time.”

Bethlehem, West Bank (CNN) -- Pope Francis extended an invitation Sunday [May 25] to the leaders of Israel and the Palestinian Authority to travel to the Vatican for a "peace initiative," as he called for a two-state solution to the intractable conflict. The pontiff's remarks came at the end of an outdoor Mass in Bethlehem's Manger Square on the second day of his three-day trip to the Middle East.
"In this, the birthplace of the Prince of Peace, I wish to invite you, President Mahmoud Abbas, together with President Shimon Peres, to join me in heartfelt prayer to God for the gift of peace," Francis said.

Cardinal Ingress charts are one of the most important tools in mundane astrology. Shown here is the chart for the Aries ingress of the Sun at Bethlehem. Notice that it is significant for the place with the -Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto T-square  on the angles. Jupiter [10cn46]  at the MC is conjunct the stars of  the twins Castor and Pollux who are often depicted fighting each other. But Jupiter which is conjunct the Pope’s Ascendant [10cn01] is exalted in Cancer and  increases the possibility of reconciliation through development of kindness and understanding or at least attempts to do so among  the fighting twins (Israel and Palestine).

Progressing the Ingress chart to May 25, the date of the news, aligns the Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto T-square with the meridian axis triggering the event.

Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto: To invest hope (Jupiter) in the possibility of change (Uranus) in long term problems of hate and anger (Pluto)

Notice that the progressed Ascendant [23sa14] is conjunct  Pope Francis’ [1]  radix Sun [25sa54] which is currently receiving a trine from directed solar arc Venus [25ar56]. And coincidentally transit Venus [25ar56] conjoined his directed Venus and transit Moon [25ar56] today in a triple conjunction!  If we recall that Venus is the planet of peace and reconciliation, we can understand the reason behind the news.

Remembering Kazi Nazrul Islam

Kazi Nazrul Islam  (25 May 1899 – 29 August 1976) was a Bengali polymath, poet, writer, musician and revolutionary. Popularly known as Nazrul, his poetry and music espoused Indo-Islamic renaissance and intense spiritual rebellion against fascism and oppression. Nazrul's impassioned activism for political and social justice earned him the title of the Rebel Poet . Accomplishing a large body of acclaimed works through his life, Nazrul is officially recognised as the national poet of Bangladesh and highly commemorated in India and the Muslim world.

Born into a Bengali Muslim Quazi (Kazi) family, Nazrul received religious education and worked as a muezzin at a local mosque. He learned of poetry, drama, and literature while working with theatrical groups. After serving in the British Indian Army, Nazrul established himself as a journalist in Calcutta. He assailed the British Raj in India and preached revolution through his poetic works, such as "Bidrohi" ("The Rebel") and "Bhangar Gaan" ("The Song of Destruction"), as well as his publication "Dhumketu" ("The Comet"). His impassioned activism in the Indian independence movement often led to his imprisonment by British authorities. Nazrul's writings explore themes such as love, freedom, and revolution; he opposed all bigotry, including religious and gender. Throughout his career, Nazrul wrote short stories, novels, and essays but is best known for his poems, in which he pioneered new forms such as Bengali ghazals. Nazrul wrote and composed music for his nearly 4,000 songs (including gramophone records), collectively known as Nazrul geeti (Nazrul songs), which are widely popular today. [2]

The horoscope of Kazi Nazrul Islam  drawn for noon on 24 May 1899 is shown here. Notice the Sun [3ge] opposite Uranus [6sa]. Sun-Uranus aspects are known to be found in the horoscopes of rebels, freedom loving individuals, reformers and creative genius[1] and Nazrul was all of this. The Sun [3ge] was in tropical Gemini – the sign of the writer – conjunct the stars of Perseus, the hero, Eridanus, the celestial river of time and some dim stars in the neck and mouth of the Bull. About this area Diana Rosenberg writes [3]:

Perseus’ theme of rescue continues here; the best and highest level of these energies proffer great vision, a universal, humane viewpoint, a love of learning and mythology and a desire to move and change the world for the better. With the overlay of tropical Gemini, many here are skilled in language and music with a sense of flair and panache. Mental visualization is strong and emotions run high – drama, playwrighting, poetry, prosody, music and culture draw them. Eridanus’ sense of the passage of time gives an interest in the past but there is an innovative, avant-garde impulse as well, and a willingness to experiment. Often there is something to do with intolerance and discrimination in their lives; many here perpetrate, experience or have to deal with racism, bigotry and persecution. A few, however, find in themselves the high-minded daring and courage of Perseus, becoming outspoken fighters for freedom, tolerance and the unity of  humankind.

In 1942 at the age of 43  Nazrul  began suffering from an unknown disease, losing his voice and memory. It is often said, the reason was slow poisoning by British Government but later a medical team in Vienna diagnosed the disease as Morbus Pick, a rare incurable neurodegenerative disease. At this time transit Uranus which was opposite his radix Sun began to conjoin it.  As mentioned above the Sun was conjunct stars in the neck and the mouth of the Bull – an area connected with the ability to speak in human beings!

Stars signal the need to end bull fights in Spain

Madrid (CNN) -- Chalk one up for the first two bulls at Spain's top annual bullfighting festival. Between them, they gored or bashed three bullfighters, putting them out of action, and forcing authorities to suspend a bullfight at the San Isidro Festival in Madrid for the first time in 35 years, said a spokesman for Las Ventas bullring, who by custom is not identified. In front of a sold-out crowd of 24,000 at the historic bullring on Tuesday (May 20) -- and a national television audience -- the first bull, weighing just over half a ton (532 kilograms) gored the first bullfighter, David Mora, in the left leg. He had to leave to get medical treatment. But the tradition says the bull must die, so in stepped the second bullfighter, Antonio Nazare, who finished him off.

A fifth exact Uranus-Pluto square, on April 22, 2014, at 13°34’ of Aries and Capricorn, was part of the  13° cardinal grand cross that included Mars in Libra and Jupiter in Cancer. Uranus-Pluto is about the need to end an old order. As Mars stationed direct on May 20, it signalled the need to take constructive action to do so.

At Madrid, the Full Moon of May 14 fell very significantly on the horizon axis. Since it formed a hard aspect to Mars in the Grand Cross, it focussed the energy of the Grand Cross at that place.

The Full Moon stars were Agena, beta Centauri, Unukalhai, alpha Serpentis, alpha Lupus and sigma Herculis. The Sun in turn was conjunct the stars, 51 Tauri of the Bull and Capulus, a nebula in Perseus’ sword hilt linked to “defective vision” – a reference to lack of spiritual discrimination.

Heracles is best known as the strongest of all mortals. Offsetting his strength was a noticeable lack of intelligence or wisdom. It would be easy to view Heracles as a muscle bound buffoon. Indeed, many of the comic Greek playwrights used him this way. Even among serious critics he was often seen as  primitive, brutal and violent [1].

The Centaur is often depicted as sacrificing the wild beast Lupus on the Altar. To sacrifice   means to give up a primal and automatic behavioral way of life, that which at one time may even have been held quite  dear, as for example, the killing of a bull (wild beast) by the bull fighters (Hercules).

Drive-by shootings in Santa Barbara

A gunman has killed six people in drive-by shootings near the Californian city of Santa Barbara, US police say. The shootings took place late on Friday in Isla Vista near the University of California-Santa Barbara campus. The suspected gunman was found dead in his car with a bullet wound. It is unclear whether it was self-inflicted. Police say they were alerted to the shootings around 21:30 on Friday (04:30 GMT on Saturday). BBC May 24

As most readers are aware we have been in the midst of a powerful Grand Cross for  the last several weeks. The current New Moon solar eclipse caught the Grand Cross on the meridian at Santa Barbara. As Mars now begins to move forward  while still stationed on the MC, it is beginning to release the tension contained in the Cross. It is well known that the Mars-Pluto element of the Cross has a difficult side that is  frequently linked to   frustration, anger, sexual abuse, rape, suicide and murder so that this incident shouldn’t come as a surprise.

A chart  drawn for the reported  time of the shooting (May 24, 04:30 GMT) has the transit Moon triggering the Grand Cross  which is  also aligned with the meridian axis  exactly in the same way as the New Moon configuration above.

Forgiving the "beast"

Judge in California orders serial rapist's release
A man who raped and assaulted at least 40 women has been ordered to live in a remote California community, despite objections from residents there. Christopher Evans Hubbart, who police believe may have had as many as 100 victims, will rent a small house in a rural area near the city of Palmdale. [1]

We start by looking at the chart of  current New Moon eclipse at Santa Clara. Notice the powerful placement of the ‘transformative’  Grand Cross on the meridian axis. Why transformative? Well, firstly because a key phrase for  Uranus-Pluto is ‘endings and new beginnings’ and secondly because eclipses are also about just that! The Mars-Pluto element of the Cross has a difficult side that is  frequently linked to   sexual abuse, rape, suicide and murder. But let us also fail to notice  that the dispositor for Mars in Libra on the MC is Venus  which is not only in the compassionate and forgiving sign Pisces but conjunct the asteroid Clementia (252). In Roman mythology, Clementia was the goddess of forgiveness and mercy.

This is confirmed when we progress the eclipse chart to May 23, the date of the news. The transformative Grand Cross reaches the horizon axis on that date. On the progressed MC [5sc57] of the progressed chart are the stars of the Virgin (“Justica”), the redemptive Centaur [*] and Crux, the Southern Cross so that all anger, suffering and sorrow can be healed, all sins forgiven [2]. In addition, the MC is trine the Neptune [7pi]. Writing about the stars in this area [5-7pi], Diana Rosenberg states, “Here the Great urn of Aquarius, with its eternally flowing, all-forgiving waters of heaven, purifies and cleanses all sins”. [3]

Finally, the last bit of push towards compassion and forgiveness comes from the water trine between Jupiter (in Cancer) and Saturn (in Scorpio) on May 24.  While the Jupiter and Saturn functions are natural opposites,  the trine brings a time when the expansive energy symbolized by Jupiter naturally balances the rigid and limiting energy of Saturn.  The Saturnian qualities of discipline and harshness are tempered by Jupiterian compassion. The highest potential of Jupiter trine Saturn is reached when we appreciate the inherently beneficent nature of the universe, while at the same time recognize the need for discipline and the law  in the  restraint of immature egos.  It is only then that we can temper discipline with an attitude of generosity and forgiveness toward others.

[*] In her book “A Nietzschean Bestiary: Becoming Animal Beyond Docile and Brutal”, Christa Davis Acampora explains why the  mythical centaur is an important figure in our evolutionary journey:

Nietzsche praised  the need for the embodiment of great opposing forces of culture in an individual’s life – and he dreamt of the cultural genius in these terms “he is a centaur, half human, half animal”. Nietzsche believed that a  humanising transformation of animality should  blossom into a redemption and not a rejection of the animal part.
