Lavish praise from teachers 'does not help pupils'

Teachers who give struggling pupils "lavish praise" could make them even less likely to succeed, research into classroom tactics has suggested. The Sutton Trust education charity has warned that many strategies used by teachers have no evidence to show that they really work. Too much praise for low achievers can "convey a message of low expectations". Robert Coe of Durham University said teachers needed to know what was "most likely to be effective".

Professor Rob Coe, author of the Sutton Trust report, and Professor Sonia Blandford, chief executive of Achievement for All, spoke to the Today programme about teaching methods and achievement. The study, What Makes Great Teaching, produced by Prof Coe for the Sutton Trust, drew on more than 200 pieces of research into what works in the classroom. In the previous post Apple CEO Tim Cook Is ‘Proud to Be Gay’, we looked at the First Quarter Moon phase. Shown here is the same Moon phase drawn for Sutton, UK.  Here too the Moon  lies opposite Juno, asteroid of relationships  creating a T-square with Pallas, the Sun and Venus.

Pallas: whether one is willing and/or able to do those things that will please another.
Venus: willingness to compromise and be nice and appreciative

Pallas-Venus
Compliments are part of a strategy to please -and you'll  have to decide if integrity and truth are sacrificed because of "nice"  behaviors.

So the energies acting for Tim Cook and the teachers reported in the news above are the same. It is the reaction that is different. Tim’s case would be regarded as a positive expression since he did not compromise with his “truth” while  the teachers here are willing to lavish undeserving praise just to please their students!

This example brings out an important astrological principle. The planetary patterns are questions not answers. It is our response to those questions that produces answers and these answers can be very different. So different in fact that to a superficial observer, the underlying connecting principle may not be clear.

Having dealt with the “minute hand” of the cosmic clock let us look at the “hour hand”. Shown here is the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse of April 15. Like the First Quarter Moon phase it was placed in the 5th mundane that is linked to children. The Moon is conjunct asteroids Ceres and Vesta. If Ceres is connected to nurturing and caring for children, Vesta is tough and impersonal so that the combination can refer to “tough love” or in other words it may be necessary to be cruel in order to be kind.

On the Ascendant [23ge] of the eclipse chart (as also on  the MC of the First Quarter phase)  is the star Capella, alpha Auriga [22ge], the nanny goat depicted with two kids in the arms of the Charioteer often shown holding a whip.  Auriga, has therefore been linked to teachers who need to look after children in their charge. Also here is Phact, alpha Columba [22ge] – the gentle dove, so that the dilemma presented can be seen to be connected with the news.

Progressing the eclipse chart to Oct.31, the date of the news, aligns the meridian axis with the radix eclipse luminaries, Ceres and Vesta triggering the issues mentioned above.
