Europe Veering From US Abyss Over Russia?

November 21, 2014 "ICH" - "SCF" - It’s long overdue but better late than never that Europe might just be back-pedalling on America’s aggressive agenda towards Russia. The business-like visit to Moscow this week by Germany’s Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier suggests that Europe can come to its senses to seek a diplomatic resolution of the escalating tensions over the Ukraine crisis – tensions that could spark a wider continental war, or worse.

Steinmeier met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov (Nov.18)  in which the pair stressed the need to find a political end to the violence in Ukraine. The German diplomat – the first high-level European envoy to Moscow in several months – also talked about normalising relations between his country and Russia and of finding a way to rescind the economic sanctions that Brussels has imposed on Moscow over recent months. [1]

Astrologically speaking we are now in the shadow of a very important mundane event – the Capricorn Ingress of the Sun –  the “master” chart for the next year. A chart for the Capricorn Ingress drawn for the midpoint between Berlin and Moscow is shown here.  Analysis of this chart can reveal the “potential”  for the relationship between Germany and Russia in the year ahead. And since Berlin is in a position to influence EU policies this may also indicate the possible outcome of the present standoff between EU and Russia.

A few things that we can see immediately are (a) the powerful Grand Cross on the angles (b) Jupiter in aspect to Kronos-Hades  with Hades conjunct the star Tejat, mu Gemini (c) Uranus stations direct at [12ar34] on Dec. 21 at 22:44 UT just before the Ingress.

So let us see whether we can put these pieces together to understand the “potential” big picture that the cosmos is trying to reveal. Whether or not Germany and Russia are able to realize this “cosmic potential” is another matter. Key phrases for  some of the elements of  the Grand Cross are:

Uranus-Pluto :  Change or unexpected reactions based on resentments, compulsions, ultimatums and threats to control; awareness of power struggles between friends or within groups.

Jupiter-Hades: Something bad may have happenend--but it could  turn out to be a good thing. Some  mistake could be fixed better than new – in  other words, improvements can occur because of  recognizing past mistakes.

Two Sabian symbols that of the Ascendant and Uranus are relevant here:

Uranus [13ar] : An Unexploded Bomb Reveals An Unsuccessful Social Protest.
Keynote: An immature attempt to change the status quo. The State thwarts attempts at popular revolution, because these are premature attempts of a consciousness that is not free but only reacting “wildly” to constraint and to a central ruling power.

Ascendant [8li]: A Blazing Fireplace in a Deserted Home
Keynote: There is always hope of a recovery and new beginning after the abandonment of a relationship.

A recall of the incidents in Ukraine in the recent past will help us understand the symbols above a little better. A wave of demonstrations and civil unrest in Ukraine, secretly fuelled by the US and EU began on the night of 21 November 2013 with public protests in  Kiev, demanding closer European integration. The scope of the protests expanded, resulting in  the resignation of President Viktor Yanukovych and his government and the installation of a pro-EU government.  After Russia intervened in eastern Ukraine on behalf of the Russian speaking population , the revolution ground to a halt primarily because the Ukranian economy is  unable to sustain itself and the promise of aid from EU and US has not been forthcoming.

In this context, the Sabian symbol of Uranus is about the “immature” revolt and the second symbol of the Ascendant reminds us of the Bible story of “The Prodigal Son” who returns to his father’s home after squandering his fortune [2].

Finally, the TNP Hades is conjunct the star Tejat, mu Gemini about which Nick Fiorenza writes:

Tejat brings to the surface that which has been suppressed, we may see parts of our selves that seem rather dark and opposing to our emergence—the fears, hesitancies, and blockages within our selves that we must step through into our paths of fulfillment in the world. Tejat and Dirah invite us to be willing to walk through the shadows of self to claim our power and place in the physical world. The more we express the truth of who we are openly in the world the less forces attempting to suppress that truth have any power.

So far EU sanctions have been influenced by the US and have only succeeded in damaging the European economy. Earlier this week,  EU ministers in Brussels balked at imposing a fourth round of sanctions, showing a growing division over the policy among European governments and recognising the need to overcome their fears and hesitancies and step out of the “shadow” of  the US.
