Severed goat heads keep turning up in nearby
Prospect Park. Last year alone, readers sent the blog Gothamist photographic
evidence of three goat heads found in the park.
I called Quinones and told him I had a case for
him. I described the hanging goat heads of Park Slope, and the other goat heads
found in Prospect Park. “I think I can help,” he said. “Are you just focusing
on goat heads?” “Yes, I’m focusing on goat heads specifically,” I said. “Basically
it’s one of three things,” Quinones said. “It’s Santería, or Vodou, or Palo
Mayombe.” Santería, Vodou, and Palo Mayombe are the three most prominent
Afro-Caribbean religions. All three descend from African religions, brought to
the Caribbean by slaves who preserved them. But, he continued, there could be
other, more sinister meanings. “It could be a death ritual,” Quinones said, his
tone growing darker. “For example, across the country and in New York State,
you might have a cow’s tongue nailed to a tree, and that’s a ritual to shut
someone up.” March 15; http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2015/03/mystery-of-the-prospect-park-goat-heads.html
Eclipses that
have long gone continue to produce startling events. Shown here is the chart
for the April 29, 2014 solar eclipse at Brooklyn. Notice that the eclipse [9ta]
is square the horizon axis and therefore significant for the place. It is
conjunct Alpha (α) Aries, Hamal [8ta], a
yellow star on the forehead of the Ram. On the Ascendant [8aq] is the star
tau Capricorni [8aq] in the neck of the Sea-Goat.
Finally, also notice
that the eclipse throws a quincunx aspect the Mars leg of the Grand Cross. Here
Mars [11li] is conjunct epsilon (ε) Corvus, Minkar,[11li] a star positioned on the neck of the
Raven. Corvus the
raven is a messenger bird. J.E. Cirlot, in
his Dictionary of Symbols, writes
that in classical cultures the crow was believed to hold "certain mystic
powers and in particular the ability to foresee the future”. But the colour of their plumage has drawn a universal connection with malevolence,
sinister forces, and ominous warnings so that it has often been connected with
the bearing of bad news.
