The Maldives Criminal Court on Friday 13 March 2015
sentenced former President Mohamed Nasheed to 13 years in jail on charges of
‘terrorism,’ for the detention, while he was still president in 2012, of a
criminal court judge who had been accused of corruption, sexual abuse and who
had refused to obey police summons. In a blatantly politicised trial, which has
lasted less than three weeks and been widely condemned in the Maldives and
abroad, President Nasheed was repeatedly denied legal representation, denied
the right to appeal, his defence witnesses were prevented from taking the
stand, and prosecution witnesses were routinely coached by the judges and the
police. Nasheed’s legal team resigned earlier this week, stating that the court
had refused them proper time to prepare a defence. http://climatechangepsychology.blogspot.ca/2015/03/president-nasheed-sentenced-to-13-years.html?spref=tw
Mohamed
Nasheed ( born 17 May 1967) is a Maldivian Marine Scientist, environmental
activist and politician who served as the fourth President of the Maldives from
2008 to 2012. He is one of the founders of the Maldivian Democratic Party. In
the October 2008 presidential election, Nasheed, as the candidate of an
opposition coalition, defeated long-time President Gayoom in the second round,
assuming office on 11 November 2008. On 7 February 2012 Mohamed Nasheed
resigned in front of local media from his presidency under disputed
circumstances, following weeks of protests by the opposition which had then
been joined by majority of military and police forces. The next day, Nasheed
stated that these protesters had joined with "powerful networks" of Gayoom
loyalists to force his resignation in a coup d'état.
Shown here is
the former President Mohamed Nasheed’s natal chart drawn for noon. Notice that his
radix Mars [15li] forms a T-square with the current transiting configuration Mars[15ar],
Uranus[15ar] and Pluto[15cp] so that the challenges presented below apply to
him completely.
While this
extract from Edmond Wollmann below describes the challenge presented by
Mars-Pluto conjunctions, it can be read also for the current Mars-Pluto square
of March 11.
When Mars
conjoins Pluto the energy and free will of the physical self joins with the
free will of the higher and/or collective self. Pluto represents the
transformed ego. Mars, the need to prove identity validity. If the lower levels
of this conjunction are being expressed, i.e., the individual is seeking to
force the will upon others for the sheer
sake of power OVER others (out of integrity), the result may be from
disappointment all the way to self destruction.
When the higher aspects of this conjunction is
being expressed, there will be a positive determination to follow the free will
of the physical self, in recognition of the need for transformation of
perspective with reference to the sign in which it occurs, especially with reference
to social issues that require this transforming touch. Negative ego drives will
be in evidence when the power of Pluto is used for personal gain as in sex,
money, or using the emotional needs of others to manipulate them.
When positive, this energy has the driving
force of the unencumbered higher self that moves mountains from inspired
passion based on a sense of duty, purpose, and necessity. Courage is
differentiated from simple ego aggression by the fact that an integral concept
is the motivating factor, not personal self-serving control. The good of the
whole is the end result of this transforming energy. And when the higher self
IS the driving force behind such a conjunction, the resources available are
unlimited to move the mountain, simply from the recognition of the mountain
being a part of the idea being expressed, there to serve, and not there to
block or limit. http://bit.ly/1BDlE0M
Next we will
look at the chart for the Last Quarter Moon of March 13. The Moon [22sa49] is
conjunct star Rasalhague [22sa40]. Alpha (α) Ophiuchus, Ras Alhague, is a
sapphire star on the head of the Snake Handler. Close by is Lesath [24sa12] in
the sting of the Scorpion. Ophiuchus was the ancient healer so that it gives
rise to those who are inveterate “fixers”, renewing, repairing, refurbishing people,
relationships, society, governments and institutions. They are willing to go
head-to-head with the “powers-that-be” over social injustices. If their inner
drive is not controlled it can lead to self-destruction. The presence of
Scorpion’s sting close by is a reminder of this possibility [1].
The angles
and the planets aspecting them are
always important factors to analyse when studying a mundane chart. The MC forms
hard aspects to the Mars-Uranus-Pluto combination resonating with Nasheed’s
transits discussed above.
Here we also
find Saturn [4sa] station retrograde on the Ascendant square Neptune [7pi] on
the IC. Very simply, Saturn can be the government and Neptune, the imprisoned
martyr so that this combination does describe the situation (lest we forget
Nasheed has Saturn-Neptune in hard aspect at birth). Conjunct Saturn are the
heads of both Wild Beast Lupus and Scorpius together with the writhing Serpent
in the left hand of the shaman Ophiuchus. Also here are dim stars in Herculis’ club.
As a Greek hero, Hercules is known for his brawn but not so much for his brains.
Those here easily become dissidents, swimming against the current, struggling
against limitations, becoming thorns in the sides of complacent powers-that-be,
determined to reform and renew. Many battle against cynicism, negativity
and despair and may come to imprisonment, confinement or even execution [2].
