Researchers
studying how the brain makes decisions have, for the first time, recorded the
moment-by-moment fluctuations in brain signals that occur when a monkey making
free choices has a change of mind. The findings result from experiments led by
electrical engineering Professor Krishna Shenoy, whose Stanford lab focuses on
movement control and neural prostheses – such as artificial arms – controlled
by the user's brain. May 5
The
research appears to assess the nature of free will. Here we will see that s the
chart for the Full Moon at Stanford brings up the same issue. The aspect that
is relevant to our discussion is Mercury
opposite Saturn in the angles. Both these form hard aspects to Uranus. Mercury
in Gemini is primarily associated with the thinking and reasoning process of
our minds. Saturn and Uranus aspects represent a tension between tradition and
change. Under hard aspects there can be a break from convention through
exercise of individual choices.
Uranus
[17ar] is conjunct stars Tau Ceti [18ar] and WW Piscium [16ar] in the West
Fish. Under Cetus, the Fishes and tropical Aries, these pioneers “lift and
loosen old foundations,” finding new ways of seeing, studying and dealing with
problems. Experimental, courageous and resourceful, many become “founding
fathers and mothers”, reformers willing to break new ground, forging paths for
others to follow. Also influencing this area is the star Alpheratz, alpha
Andromeda [15ar] in the head of the Chained Woman. It is interesting that the
star in Andromeda’s Head is also the Navel of Pegasus. The Flying Horse is a
symbol of a powerful mind and unbridled imagination and the fact that it is
“born” from the head of a Chained Woman suggests that no matter what constraint
life imposes, our minds can always
discover new ways to free ourselves from the past [1].
