International Yoga Day

Thousands have taken part in a mass yoga programme in the Indian capital, Delhi, on the first ever International Yoga Day. Security was tight in the city with thousands of police and paramilitary deployed for Sunday morning's event. Thousands of colourful mats were laid out on Rajpath - King's Avenue - where the main event was held. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed participants, but officials said he would not do any yoga himself. Mr Modi, a yoga enthusiast who says he practices the ancient Indian art daily, lobbied the United Nations to declare 21 June International Yoga Day. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-33212949

Today , 21 June, the Sun enters tropical Cancer. This is an important  event in mundane astrology.  A chart for the ingress at Delhi  has Saturn [29sc35] on the MC conjunct the star Kornephoros [1sa18]. Beta (β) Hercules, Kornephoros, is a pale yellow star on the right shoulder of the Kneeling Man.

A Latin epithet for Hercules was saltator, “leaper” and was associated with dancers, acrobats and sports champions. In our case here it is easily related to the enthusiasts practicing Yoga in Delhi today. Moreover, the PM Narendra Modi born 17 Sep 1950 around 12 noon also has his radix Moon [2sa] conjunct Kornephoros so that his lobbying the UN  for declaring 21 June International Yoga Day is easily understood.

Two other elements of the chart are relevant in the present context.  Saturn on the MC is in a quincunx aspect to Mars and Sun in the 5th. A Mars-Saturn combination gives rise to a disciplined (Saturn)  physical regimen (Mars) which is what Yoga is essentially all about.
