South Korea’s MERS Crisis

South Korea’s ongoing outbreak of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) claimed its sixth victim on Monday, with an 80-year-old man dying while being treated at a hospital there. The country’s health ministry stated that the man had only been diagnosed with the deadly virus earlier in the day, state news agency Yonhap reported. The ministry also reported 23 new cases, taking the total number of people affected by the disease to 87. Among these was a 16-year-old boy, the first minor to contract the virus since the outbreak began on May 20.  June 8 http://time.com/3912167/mers-south-korea-sixth-death-23-affected-teenager/

It appears that the MERS outbreak in South Korea took place just two days after the New Moon of May 18. A chart for the New Moon at Seoul is shown here. Notice a T-square containing Mercury-Saturn-Neptune is highlighted by the angles. The following extract from Meira B. Epstein’s article Saturn – Neptune: The Astrology of Pandemics explains that this combination is associated with lung diseases.

Saturn/Neptune/Pisces combinations create situations of chronic conditions and long term illnesses, usually in the respiratory systems, especially in the lungs, such as bronchitis, tuberculosis, lung cancer, asthma, etc. …In addition to these, we also find situations of mysterious illnesses and viral infections that are hard to diagnose.  Saturn/Mercury/Gemini/3rd House and Neptune/Mercury also create respiratory problems [1]

But as we have seen so often in the past, a chart will often give us more than one clue. Here the Node [8li] which forms a quincunx to Neptune [9pi] is conjunct the asteroid Askalaphus [9li42] connected to disease and ill health. And more interesting both the Node and Askalaphus conjoin stars in the chest or lung area of the Virgin so that Diana Rosenberg links this area to lung ailments [2].
