Omar Sharif – An Astro-obituary

Actor Omar Sharif, best known for his roles in classic films Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago, has died aged 83. Egypt-born Sharif won two Golden Globe awards and an Oscar nomination for his role as Sherif Ali in David Lean's 1962 epic Lawrence of Arabia. He won a further Golden Globe three years later for Doctor Zhivago.  July 11 http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-33483877

Omar Sharif was born April 10, 1932; 5:30 pm; Alexandria; Egypt [1]. His radix Sun makes a tight hard  aspect to Neptune – the planet linked to illusions and by  association  to films and  photography. Venus square  Neptune,is  a combination  associated with image of a romantic lover which is what Omar Sharif played in Doctor Zhivago.

Doctor Zhivago is a 1965 British-American epic drama–romance film directed by David Lean, starring Omar Sharif and Julie Christie. The film takes place mostly against a backdrop of the pre-World War I years, World War I itself, the Russian Revolution of 1917, and the Russian Civil War.

Sharif’s radix Sun was conjunct Uranus square Pluto. Uranus-Pluto hard aspects are connected with war and revolutions which lead to the collapse of  old orders. Sharif was born at the waning Uranus-Pluto square and Dr Zhivago was released at the Uranus-Pluto conjunction of 1965 so that in a sense his birth chart was connected to the film. In fact in 1965 at the release of the film, Omar Sharif’s primary direction was  Sun sextile radix Pluto triggering the natal square.  And now his death has taken place at the waxing Uranus-Pluto square with Uranus having returned to its natal place conjunct his Sun and square Pluto which is conjunct the asteroid Requiem (death). Just two days after his death  a Sun-Uranus square takes place on  July 13, 2015. A chart for the exact square at Cairo has the Sun-Uranus-Pluto T prominently placed on the angles.

Finally, let us look at the reason behind Omar Sharif's success in Hollywood. To do that we look at the concept of the Least Aspected Planet ( LAP) in his chart. This concept was first advanced in 1998 by Robert Couteau, [2] who  proposed that the horoscope planet that receives the fewest astrological aspects is the keynote or focal point of the birth chart. In the analysis of planetary lines in astrocartography, the rising, setting, Imum coeli, and midheaven lines of the LAP represent geographic areas of greatest potential for the native, in fact places where he can acquire great fame. Fame being a result of outwardly realizing a great inner potential for success.

Jupiter [12le] is the Least Aspected Planet in Omar Sharif’s chart.  Leo is a sign associated with the stage and often prominent in the chart of actors but also those of gamblers! (Sharif was a regular at French casinos).  Notice that relocation to Hollywood, CA brings his radix  Jupiter to the IC so that this is where he acquired his fame.

PS:
The Sabian symbol for the Sun [Cancer21]  in the chart for  the Sun-Uranus square may have a deeper message which perhaps we should look at .

PHASE 111: A Famous Singer is proving her virtuosity during an operatic performance.
Keynote: The reward accompanying cultural excellence.

If anything  represents the type of response that a well-developed society gives to the individual who successfully pours his energy into the skilful externalization of the great images of his culture, it is the opera. At this stage of the cyclic Sabian symbols we find the drive toward individualization by means of concrete forms of cultural activity glorified in social and financial success. In its deepest sense the symbol refers to the price of success. What is success really worth? A question few people ask.
