In nature, the relationship between predators and
their prey seems like it should be simple: The more prey that’s available to be
eaten, the more predators there should be to eat them. If a prey population
doubles, for instance, we would logically expect its predators to double too.
But a new study, published Thursday in the journal Science, turns this idea on
its head with a strange discovery: There aren’t as many predators in the world
as we expect there to be. And scientists aren’t sure why.Sept.3 https://goo.gl/zrpfgQ; http://www.sciencemag.org/content/349/6252/aac6284#aff-1
The
research appeared in the journal Science on Sept.4 just a day before the Last
Quarter Moon. A chart for the Moon phase at Montreal, Canada where the lead
author is based, has the luminaries highlighting a Jupiter-Saturn-Neptune
T-square on the angles. Here the Moon [12ge] is conjunct stars of Orion, the
Hunter, more specifically the star Tabit in the skin of the beast that he has slain and holds
up as a trophy in his left hand [1].
As always
there are more than one indicator in a mundane chart pointing to an event. Here
too we find that the Sun [12le] is amidst the stars of the Lion. About this constellation, Roman astrologer Manilius
wrote:
"Who can doubt the nature of the
monstrous Lion, and the pursuits he prescribes for those born beneath his sign?
The lion ever devises fresh fights and fresh warfare on animals, and lives on
spoil and pillaging of flocks. " [Astronomica, Manilius, 1st century AD,
p.237.]
A third
element in the chart resonating to the theme of the hunt is Saturn on the IC,
conjunct the stars of the Centaur who is depicted carrying Lupus, the “Beast of
Death” impaled on his spear.
So we do
have in the chart at least three indicators of prey-predator dynamics but where
is the reference to a new understanding of this dynamics? The answer comes from
Neptune on the descendant [8pi] which is conjunct the star Biham. Theta (θ)
Pegasus, Biham is in the head of the
Flying Horse which is a symbol of freedom from ignorance and a growth in
understanding so that Diana Rosenberg rightly links this area to “major
technological and scientific advances” [2]. And finally, let us not fail to notice that Jupiter-Uranus form a hard aspect, a combination known to provide new understanding and breakthroughs in science.
