For almost a decade and a half, the people behind
the Bush administration's shameful treatment of terrorism suspects have avoided
punishment for their crimes, but that may be about to change. The courts have
had their say and have ruled that former Bush administration officials can, in
fact, be sued for how they conducted the "war on terror." The Second
Circuit Court of Appeals made that pretty much official on Friday when it
refused to hear a challenge to its earlier ruling in the case of Turkmen v.
Ashcroft. That case, sparked by a civil rights lawsuit filed by the Center for
Constitutional Rights, involves hundreds of Arab, Muslim or South Asian men who
were detained and then abused by our government in the weeks following 9/11.
Cardinal
ingresses have been used to predict public events at least since the time of
Ptolemy, but which of the four Cardinal ingresses best signifies the coming
year has long been a subject of debate. Ptolemy favored the Aries ingress as
the year’s true inception, because it is then that the length of the day starts
to exceed the length of the night, and the moisture of the season fosters
generation and new growth. In the 20th century, Charles Carter in England and
Alfred Witte in Germany made a persuasive case for the Capricorn ingress. Quite
reasonably, Witte saw the Capricorn ingress as the beginning of the solar
cycle. Whether or not it marks the true start of the solar year, the Capricorn
Ingress chart has to do with the social order, and for this reason it is a
plausible tool for predicting political events. Witte also believed that it is
especially related to “telluric” events -- earth-related phenomena like
earthquakes and floods [1].
Shown here
is current Capricorn Ingress chart at New York where the Second Circuit Court
of Appeals is based. Notice that the Ascendant makes a Grand Cross with
Uranus-Pluto and the Nodal axis. On the
Ascendant is the star Castor, alpha Geminorum which is part of the Indian lunar
mansion Punarvasu – a mansion often referred to as “Return of the Light”, an indicator of the coming back of health,
good times, safety and freedom.
Progressing
the ingress chart to Friday, December 11, aligns the Grand Cross exactly with
the horizon axis. The Uranus-Pluto
square represents the archetypal clash: courageous/warrior-like actions of
individuals on behalf of the people's liberties (Uranus in Aries) vs. an
intensification/consolidation of power by institutional structures facing
threats to their authority (Pluto in Capricorn) [2]. At least here it would
appear that Uranus in Aries has scored over Pluto in Capricorn!
