The cloud that resembles "the hand of God"

It looks like a fireball has been travelling through the sky. Not so: this is actually a cloud that was captured earlier this week (Jan.24) by photographer and weather blogger Rogerio Pacheco on the Portuguese island of Madeira. He published it on his blog and described the cloud as "the hand of God".

A chart for the Full Moon of Jan.25 drawn for Madeira is shown here.  The luminaries are placed on the meridian axis and form a T-square with Mars and TNP Poseidon on the Ascendant. Martha Wescott links TNP Poseidon[1] to religion and spiritual influences and therefore by extension to God. Let us remember that the colour associated with Mars is  “fiery red”.  Completing the jigsaw puzzle is beta (β) Cassiopeia, Caph [5ta] of the middle eastern “Tinted Hand” on the descendant of the chart [2].

Ancient Babylonians 'first to use geometry'

Sophisticated geometry - the branch of mathematics that deals with shapes - was being used at least 1,400 years earlier than previously thought, a study suggests. Research shows that the Ancient Babylonians were using geometrical calculations to track Jupiter across the night sky. Previously, the origins of this technique had been traced to the 14th Century. The new study is published in Science. Its author, Prof Mathieu Ossendrijver, from the Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany, said: "I wasn't expecting this. It is completely fundamental to physics, and all branches of science use this method." The Ancient Babylonians once lived in what is now Iraq and Syria. The civilisation emerged in about 1,800 BC. Clay tablets engraved with their Cuneiform writing system have already shown these people were advanced in astronomy. Jan. 29

All planetary stations are loaded with potential and power and Mercury station is no exception. As Mercury begins to move forward after its station on Jan.25 it conjoins Pluto and squares Uranus. A chart for the Mercury station at Berlin where the author of the study is located is shown here. Notice that Mercury is part of a powerful T-square on the angles. Interpretation for the T-square is as under:

Uncovering of unknown or hidden (Pluto) radical ideas (Mercury-Uranus) from the past (Hades) that were far ahead of their times (Uranus).

On the descendant of the chart is the star kappa Eridanus [8ar]. Eridanus was an ancient celestial river. As a symbol, a river relates to the creative power of nature and time and everything transitory: the flux of the world and the irreversible passage of time.  Unlike earthly rivers, Eridanus is depicted flowing upstream symbolizing a return to the past.
Also on the descendant are the stars Erakis, mu Cephei [10ar] in the King’s head and chi Pegasi [11ar]. About this area, Diana Rosenberg [1] writes:

This is a place of fires! Fires of illumination. Large tasks delight them; capable of bringing order and regulation to previously chaotic areas of knowledge. With a potential for genius, wide ranging minds and a breadth of talents, many become mathematicians, astronomers, artists, engineers and inventors of great inspiration. Here brilliant King Cepheus and high flying Pegasus inspire extraordinary achievements that carry humankind into new knowledge and realizations.

Pentagon to release photos of torture under court order

The Pentagon will publish 198 photos of tortured detainees in the US prisons in Iraq and Afghanistan on Friday, a top American civil rights group has said. The release comes after a decade-long lawsuit ended in the group’s favor in March. Jameel Jaffer, director of the ACLU’s Center for Democracy, announced on Wednesday that the US Department of Defense (DoD) would provide public access to previously disclosed images of prisoners being tortured in US detention centers after more than 10 years of staunch resistance to do so. Jan. 28

The planet Mercury stationed on Jan.25 and subsequently once again triggered the Uranus-Pluto square in direct motion. Mercury with Uranus-Pluto can be interpreted as the coming to light of information that was previously hidden.  The upcoming last quarter Moon phase at Washington, DC  carries the combination as part of a T-square on the angles. As in  the previous post  the TNPs Kronos-Hades on the MC  refer to the dirty secrets of the government that are being revealed.

In addition, there are two sets of stars in the chart that add more details. The Moon [11sc] is conjunct the star Alphecca, alpha Corona Borealis  [12sc] which was part of the Chinese asterism, Tíen Lao, the Celestial Prison.

Corvus – the “lying” Raven

On the Ascendant [12li] are stars of the truth seeking Virgin and the lying Crow. The Crow has  been associated in mythology  with lies and deceit. The constellation Virgo, on the other hand,  was identified with  the virgin goddess Iustitia or Astraea, holding the scales of justice in her hand as the constellation Libra. Interestingly, many of the other mythological female figures who were believed to represent Virgo include Dike (Greek mythology), and Erigone (Roman mythology), all of whom represented Justice. So it is not surprising that under these stars truth is often brought to light.

Virgin goddess Astraea with scales of Justice

Sebring,Ohio discovers lead contamination in water supply

Residents in Sebring, Ohio, can commiserate with those in Flint, Michigan, considering their water supply has also been contaminated with lead that “exceeds the action level,” according to the state’s EPA. Like Flint, the case of Sebring — involving some 8,100 water customers in Sebring, Beloit, Maple Ridge, and parts of Smith Township — already has the appearance of criminal negligence and a possible cover-up. Jan. 28

We present two mundane charts drawn for Sebring, Ohio. The first is that for Last Quarter phase of the Moon on Jan. 31 and the second is for Mercury square Uranus which takes place just a few minutes later.

Notice that both carry a prominent T-square on the angles containing  Mercury-Uranus-Pluto and the TNPs Kronos-Hades. Mercury-Uranus-Pluto can be interpreted as the sudden revelation of information that was previously hidden. The stars conjunct the MC and the TNPs Kronos-Hades were part of the ancient Chinese asterism Tsing, The Well [1]. This asterism reminded the Chinese to keep wells, ponds or  reservoirs clean to ensure safe drinking water. So it appears that the information revealed is about the quality of drinking water.

The delineation for Hades-Kronos is provided by Martha Wescott.

Hades-Kronos: to see that government or authorities indulge in “dirty business” or hidden activities.

Japanese minister quits over bribery claims

Japan's Economy Minister Akira Amari has said he is resigning amid corruption allegations. Mr Amari unexpectedly made the announcement at a press conference in Tokyo on Thursday. But he again denied personally receiving bribes from a construction company, as had been alleged by a Japanese magazine. The development will be seen as a significant blow for Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Mr Amari, who has been minister of state for economic and fiscal policy since late 2012, has been widely described as one of Mr Abe's most trusted members of parliament. Jan.28

The news above comes at the Waning Gibbous Moon phase (also known as the Disseminating Moon) of Jan. 28. A chart for the Moon phase at Tokyo is shown here. Notice that Moon is conjunct Jupiter and the North Node on the descendant. About this area Nick Fiorenza writes [1]:

The Jupiter North Lunar Node Disseminating Moon conjoins Denebola of Leo, Alpha Antilia, Alkes of Crater, and Avior Carina of Argo Navis. North is Canes Venatici, the barking dogs, and overseeing are Mizar and Benetnash of the Great Bear.

This is a windy and fiery area of the zodiak, one that can stimulate dynamic creative expression, but it can also be filled with diversionary commotion and grand spectacle. This area of late Leo is often of those behind the scenes, of political religious figures manipulating the affairs of the world for personal motive while offering salvation from the human struggle. It is also of those of pure intent, those with true wisdom, the seers, but who are hidden behind the scenes. These stars create a diverse polarity of energy that set Leo’s “back stage.”

Essentially, the star Benetnash is of corrupt leaders so that the Disseminating Moon placed significantly on the descendant at  Tokyo brings a case of corruption in the Japanese government  to the forefront.

Denmark girl faces fine for protecting herself from sexual assault

Rape of Persephone by Pluto: Classical mythology

A 17-year-old Danish girl who said she was sexually harassed in Denmark now faces a fine for using pepper spray against her attacker. The man who pulled her to the ground and tried to undress her fled the scene without any charges. The incident took place in the center of the small town of Sonderborg in southern Denmark at about 22:00 local time Wednesday (?). The teenager told police that an English-speaking man knocked her to the ground, tried to unbutton her pants and undress her. However, she was apparently able to protect herself as she pulled out pepper spray and used it against the man. The sexual attacker escaped the scene of the incident and hasn’t been charged.

In mundane astrology a chart  becomes significant for a place when planets aspect the horizon or meridian (angles). The attack took place just  a day after Mercury stationed direct. A chart for the event at Sonderborg has Venus-Mercury-Pluto on the IC opposite the TNPs Krnonos-Hades and forming a T-square with Uranus.  In mythology Pluto or Hades is the underworld god who rapes Persephone [1]. Astrologers have noticed that strong aspects to Pluto bring about  unpleasant events like the one reported in the news. Here the square from Uranus has brought about a sudden and unexpected release (Uranus) of normally suppressed instinctual or animal energy (Pluto). Venus-Pluto-Uranus is, therefore, a perfect combination for a sexual attack and Mercury here refers to a young person.  But more interesting is the ridiculous fact that the teen girl faces a fine for protecting herself. The combination of the TNPs Kronos-Hades on the MC explains this. Martha Wescott interprets it as follows [1]:

Hades-Kronos: to see disgust with regulations; to see that people in charge – and the regulations they enforce – cause embarrassment or are experienced as degrading.

Full Moon reveals hidden strands of meaning

Dewdrops on a line - hidden strands of meaning

What makes astrology supremely relevant is that it discloses an unsuspected dimension of the world we think we know so well. It is as though we have become accustomed to see only the horizontal yarn of the weaving, the weft, and are largely unaware of the warp. We are accustomed to break down our world, in order to understand it, into certain categories, recognizing what belongs to this category, what belongs to that. That is ‘scientific’. However, astrology is about learning to think in new categories. It embodies a system of new categories that are as different from the ones to which we are habituated, as the warp is from the weft. In this system objects and events that at first sight appear to have nothing whatever to do with each other are shown to be intimately connected. Conversely, things we naturally tend to associate may be distributed otherwise in the astrological scheme. Understanding the world around us depends on our power to perceive patterns of meaning, to make the right connections, recognize what belongs with what. It is not easy. Unaided, it is as if we are looking at the weaving from the wrong side, and it seems a mess, but with the help of astrology we can see the design as it is meant to be. As the shuttle of the cosmic loom ceaselessly weaves its intricate design, astrologers have the responsibility, or rather the awesome privilege, to work towards restoring to humanity the sense of high meaning it has all but lost.”

Dennis Elwell, The Cosmic Loom

Over 1,500 years ago, the Gupta emperors ruled large parts of India. They helped consolidate the nation, but they also popularized India's caste system, making it socially unacceptable for people to marry outside their castes. Now, a new analysis of genetic variation among contemporary Indians has revealed that this social shift left a distinctive genetic signature behind.  A group of researchers in India conducted this analysis by comparing the genomes of hundreds of Indians from throughout the country. As they write in a paper published today in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, samples came from "367 unrelated individuals drawn from 18 mainland and two island (Andaman and Nicobar Islands) populations selected to represent geographic, linguistic, and ethnic diversities." Previous studies had suggested that today's Indians came from two ancestral populations, but the new analysis revealed four distinct "haplotypes," or bundles of genetic elements that travel through generations in a package. People with the same haplotypes likely came from the same ancestral groups. The researchers also found a fifth haplotype among people of the Andaman archipelago. Jan. 25

Renting a flat in urban India is no easy task, specially for single women and men. Signboards prohibiting "bachelor tenants" are not an uncommon sight in the capital Delhi and its neighbouring suburbs. Landlords usually have preferences like "vegetarian only", "government officials only" and "Hindus only". But they also have a long list of reasons to not rent their properties to single people. The finding on how the caste system has left its mark on Indians comes at the Full Moon amidst the stars. Jan. 26

Two news items, apparently unconnected but as we shall see both emanate from a common theme contained in the Full Moon chart at Delhi. Notice that the Full Moon straddles  the horizon axis and is therefore very significant for the place. It is placed amongst the stars of  Cancer. Conjoining stars include Al Tarf and Tegmine of Cancer. The stars of Cancer, the Crab, with its hard protective shell, are linked with a desire for protection and security. With its connection to the womb Cancer is linked to the mother and family of origin. Therefore, it is not too much of a stretch to understand why it is associated with culture, tradition, genealogy, ancestral origins and a desire to preserve and protect family and tribal customs. Ruled by the Moon, Cancer relates to tribal instincts and ethnic origins, and there is often a clan-like attitude to one's own community and family structure. Cancer can becoming too dependent on the need to preserve traditional rules and regulations that invariably divide people and fail to recognise when it is appropriate to loosen the bonds.

Notice that the Sun and Moon make aspects to the TNPs Kronos and Hades in the mundane 6th house which among other things stands for tenants [1]. Martha Wescott interprets the combination Kronos-Hades as follows:

Hades-Kronos:  to note disgust with regulations which cause embarrassment and are experienced as degrading; to recognize polarization between the perceived “aristocracy” and the common man; to see that some people put themselves “up” by putting other people “down” (Note: isn’t this the very basis of the caste system?)

Life Is a Fight: Meet World's Deadliest, Knife-Wielding Crab!

Footage has emerged of what could be the most deadly crab in the world making a desperate break for freedom to avoid certain doom. This crustacean was filmed wielding a knife in its claw in what is believed to be a restaurant in Brazil, backing away from people off-camera and waving the weapon. The hilarious clip, posted on LiveLeak, is causing a storm on the internet with viewers suggesting the sea creature has armed itself to fight off hungry seagulls. Jan.21

Most ancient cultures saw pictures in the stars of the night sky. The earliest known efforts to catalogue the stars date to cuneiform texts and artifacts dating back roughly 6000 years. These remnants, found in the valley of the Euphrates River, suggest that the ancients observing the heavens saw the lion, the bull, and the scorpion in the stars. And as we shall see in this post, the pictures that the ancients drew in the sky literally corresponded to events on earth when planets moved through the relevant constellations.

As the news of the knife wielding crab goes viral on the internet, the Full Moon (3le29) is conjunct the star Al Tarf (4le29). Beta (β) Cancer, in the constellation of the the Crab (see image).

This constellation represents the crab that bit the heel of Hercules during his fight with the Lernean Hydra, and was placed amongst the stars in gratitude by Juno, the enemy of Hercules. [Robson*, p.33.]

If we now arrange the elements of the chart in a 45 degree sort we have find that the New Moon makes a hard aspect to the Mars- TNP Vulcanus midpoint. Martha Wescott interprets the midpoint as follows:

Mars-Vulcanus: to see people over-react with self-assertion – they are too strongly vigilant of self-interests and feel that they must defend , assert/protect their interests, challenge others or strike [1].

What do we make of this? Can it really be a coincidence?

Fairy tales could date back thousands of years

'Beauty and the Beast'

When the Brothers Grimm collected fairy tales in the 19th century, Wilhelm suggested that many dated back thousands, rather than the accepted view of just hundreds, of years. Researchers believe they have now proved him right. While two of the best-known tales, “Beauty and the Beast” and “Rumplestiltskin”, were written down in the 17th and 18th centuries, new research using mathematical modelling has traced them back 4,000 years and they are not even the oldest. Jan.20

The lead author of the study is Sara Graca da Silva, a folklorist from the New University of Lisbon. A chart for the current New Moon at Lisbon is shown here. The Moon is placed in the 3rd house which rules all forms of communication including story telling.  Nick Fiorenza tells us that the Lyra-Aquila New Moon is about inspiration for creative expression through the art-sciences that serve to illumine, awaken and elevate human consciousness and to achieve our greater aspirations in life [1]. Fairy tales do just that. The problem of evil in most fairy tales provides us the opportunity to increase consciousness. When, in the characters of the fairy tales,  we are able to see our own greed, jealousy, spite, hatred and so on, these can be turned to positive account because in such destructive emotions is stored much life, and when we have this energy at our disposal, it can be turned to positive ends.

Mercury is on the 4th house cusp (IC) which among other things is the foundation or base of the society and its traditions, its folk-soul, so tospeak [2]. Mercury was the messenger-god of Jupiter, and was the god of story telling [3]. It is retrograde so that once again it refers to the past.

Eridanus – River of Time

Resonating with the theme of the past is the star Acamar, theta Eridanus, on the descendant. Eridanus was an ancient celestial river. As a symbol, a river relates to the creative power of nature and time and everything transitory: the flux of the world and the irreversible passage of time.  Unlike earthly rivers, Eridanus is depicted flowing upstream symbolizing a return to the past.

'Historic' blizzard expected to strike US east coast

The Great Storm Bird

National Weather Service warns of "life-threatenting conditions" and "impossible" travel in Washington, with snow also expected in Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York. A blizzard of historic proportions is expected to hit Washington, Baltimore and other East Coast cities beginning on Friday, with snowfalls of more than two feet predicted in some areas. The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard watch for the Washington area, warning that "potential life-threatening conditions are expected Friday night into Saturday night."

On Friday, January 22, a retrograde Mercury conjoins Pluto just three days before its direct station. A chart for the conjunction at Washington DC has the Mercury-Pluto-Uranus T-square aligned with the meridian. Recall that the Uranus-Pluto is about the “sudden unleashing of elemental forces”.  On the MC  are stars of Corvus, the Raven.

These stars were part of an archaic Chaldean lunar mansion whose patron god was Im-dugud-khu, “The Great Storm Bird” or “Storm Bird of the Evil Wind”  and China’s  Celestial Chariot T’ien-Tche governed wind. Records show that they were transited at the 1864 Bay of Bengal  cyclone that killed 50,000, the 1881 typhoon that hit Haipong, China, killing thousands;  at the Winter Solstice of 1886, the beginning of a terrible North American winter that caused “The Great Die-up”, hundreds of thousands of cattle, buried in blizzards froze to death; at New York city’s record snow of 1947; in 1970 when a huge cyclone hit Ganges delta with winds upto 150 kmph and a 50-ft high sea wave : about 300,000 to 500,000 were killed, thousands more died later of typhoid and cholera; in 1977 when after 4 snowstorms in 2 months, Buffalo, NY was hit by the the 17-hour “Great Blizzard of 77;  in 1979 when 3 twisters combined into one giant tornado and hit Wichita Falls; in 1991 when “Tornado Alley” was hit by several twisters some with winds clocking 450 kmph and many others [1].

Uranus-Pluto-Mercury: Charsadda attack and Hyderabad suicide

Rohith Vemula (26), a second year PhD student at University of Hyderabad, committed suicide on Sunday evening. According to The New Indian Express report, Vemula was active in student politics, but had grown increasingly silent after the disciplinary action was initiated against him by the university. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of various student groups said Rohith was highly depressed due to suspension and expulsion from the hostel. According to the latest CNN IBN report, Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and University vice chancellor have been booked under SC/ST act. JNU students are protesting over this issue near the HRD ministry and have written a letter to Smriti Irani about the same, seeking resignation of the Hyderabad University's VC.  Jan. 18

Security forces have ended a gun and bomb attack on a university in north-west Pakistan in which 19 people were killed and 50 injured. Four suspected attackers also died in a battle that lasted nearly three hours at Bacha Khan University in Charsadda. There are conflicting reports about whether Pakistan Taliban militants carried out the assault. The group killed 130 students at a school in the city of Peshawar, 50km (30 miles) from Charsadda, in 2014. About 3,000 students are enrolled at Bacha Khan but hundreds of visitors were also expected on Wednesday for a poetry event. Jan. 20

Transiting retrograde Mercury squares Uranus and conjoins Pluto (Jan. 20 to Jan.22). The effect of the Uranus-Pluto square in one sentence would be: Rebellions (Uranus)  fomented by individuals (Aries) who stand up in protest against the oppressive (Pluto)  influence (real or perceived) of institutions (Capricorn).

Shown here  are the charts for the Mercury-Uranus square drawn for Hyderabad and Charsadda where the two incidents reported above have taken place. Notice that the common factor is the placement of the T-square comprising Mercury-Uranus-Pluto-Zeus on the horizon axis. Mercury rules young people, schools and places of learning so that both events are connected with a university. Mercury is conjunct the asteroid Lacrimosa which like the asteroid Orpheus rules both depression as well as death.

Alps Avalanche Kills 5 Foreign Legionnaires

Five French Foreign Legionnaires were killed Monday during a training exercise in the French Alps, the second mountain tragedy in France in less than a week. Another six soldiers were injured near the resort of Valfrejus, with one in intensive care in hospital after suffering hypothermia. They were among a group of about 50 soldiers taking part in the skiing exercise. Jan.18

The cardinal ingresses of the Sun have a traditional reputation as  important  mundane events. Of these the Capricorn Ingress has a special place and is considered by many to be the  annual chart. Shown here is the sidereal Capricorn Ingress chart for Valfrejus. Notice the Uranus-Pluto square straddling the meridian. Richard Tarnas associates Uranus-Pluto with “the unleashing of the elemental forces of nature in various senses” and this includes volcanoes, earthquakes, avalanches among other manifestations. The ingress took place on Jan.15 and the avalanche took place precisely three days later on Jan. 18 when the progressed MC conjoined Uranus.

As always there is invariably more than one indicator for an event. A chart for the First Quarter Moon at Valfrejus has the Uranus-Pluto square on the horizon axis and thereby resonates with the Capricorn Ingress chart.

Iran nuclear deal: 'New chapter' for Tehran as sanctions end

Iran "has opened a new chapter" in its ties with the world, President Hassan Rouhani said, hours after international nuclear sanctions were lifted. The move came after the international nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, said Iran had complied with a deal designed to prevent it developing nuclear weapons. Jan.17

Reproduced below is an extract from an earlier post [1] dt. Sept. 29, 2013 that is relevant in the present context.

The Iran-US  Davison relationship chart (Iran [1 Feb 79; 9:00 am IT, Tehran] and the US Sibly [4 Jul 1776; 17:14 LMT, Philadelphia) is shown here. The following points come to attention immediately.
The upcoming lunar eclipse [25ar] falls opposite the composite Sun [25li18]. The eclipse is conjunct the star Acamar, theta Eridani often shown as a dam in the river of life. Since eclipses are known to end old chapters  and begin new ones, it appears appropriate that this eclipse is hinting at the need for an end to the stalemate in the US-Iran relationship. The Sabian symbol for the composite Sun “An Eagle and white Dove quickly change into each other” says it all.
The directed solar arc Sun [13pi] is forming a conjunction to Moon [13pi] and Saturn [14pi]. All these are conjunct the stars Achernar [14pi] and Phoenix [14pi]. Diana Rosenberg writing about these stars says:
Endings and new beginnings…pushing boundaries, solving problems and altering mankind’s view of the world, freeing humankind from outdated illusions and outmoded conventions of thought…the ever-regenerating Phoenix offers renewal and healing….history and paradigm altering events; peace treaties.
The radix Sun [25li18] is in a sharp quincunx aspect to Pluto [25ta04] which is conjunct the star Algol .  The star Algol that has been historically prominent in atomic explosions.

A chart for the First Quarter Moon [17 Jan. 2016]  at Tehran is shown here . The Moon [26ar] coincides with the lunar eclipse and the star Acamar linking back to the issues discussed in the post above.   The TNP Admetus [28ta] is conjunct the descendant and the star Algol and also forms a paran aspect to Neptune on the IC. A key phrase for Neptune is “dissolution of boundaries” while that for Admetus is  “isolation”.  So it should not be difficult to see why the end of Iran’s isolation has come about at the First Quarter Moon.

Legendary singer David Bowie dies

Legendary singer David Bowie has died at the age of 69 after battling cancer in secret for 18 months. The star, who released a new album last week, was known as the creator of glam rock and was one of the most successful artists of the 20th century. During his illness, which was not made public until his death yesterday, he continued to record and last week he appeared in a haunting video which contained the lyrics 'I'm in heaven'.

Following Bowie's death a flood of celebrities and other public figures such as politicians and even the Archbishop of Canterbury rushed to pay tribute to the impact he had on the cultural landscape of his era. Jan. 10

The current New Moon [19cp] is conjunct the star Sheliak [19cp] of Lyra.  Lyra, harp of the angels, is often found to be prominent in the charts of musicians and singers. David Bowie was born 8 January [1] so that his natal Sun[17cp]  is also conjunct Lyra. His solar return just two days ago has triggered the Uranus-Pluto square acting on his natal Sun/Mars. Among other things, Uranus-Pluto rules death and endings.

As Mercury stationed retrograde on January 5, it squared Mars. A chart for the exact square aspect at London  has it straddling the horizon axis making it significant for the place. (Interestingly it also squares Bowie’s radix Ascendant-Descendant axis).  Mars is conjunct the asteroid Handley (cancer) while the asteroids Orpheus , Kronos  and Hippokrates conjoin Mercury. In her January newsletter [2]  published sometime back, Martha Wescott interprets the combination as follows:

In 03-04 Aquarius, we find the medical asteroid Hippokrates with Orpheus and Kron (which is an asteroid you interpret just like the TNP, Kronos.) Using simple key words, Hippokrates brings up a medical concern. Orpheus speaks of life-threatening or dying. Kron inserts a specialist or famous person. Using just these three asteroids, you know that someone could mention a medical specialist, an illness that may be terminal or life threatening, and that these things are shown through (Kron) a father, a government official or a famous person. Now, Orpheus is also music, isn't it? And an Orpheus-Kron would be a famous or infamous singer or musician.

The EU Bail-In Directive: Dark Clouds Are Gathering

After the unseemly bankruptcy of the Espirito Santo Group and the associated bank, then Portugal’s second biggest (likely a result of not praying enough, see: “Big Portuguese Bank Gets Into Trouble” and “Fears Over Banco Espirito Santo Escalate” for the gory details), Portugal’s state-run deposit insurance fund basically ran out of money. It turns out that Europe’s new Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive (BRRD for short) came just in time for Portugal. At the end of 2015, another Portuguese bank bit the dust, the country’s seventh largest lender by assets, Banif. Portugal’s government once again decided to bail the bank out, but with strings attached. Subordinated bondholders and shareholders were essentially wiped out, which is as it should be. Jan.10

To understand this important news coming in from Portugal, I take my readers back to the last solar eclipse. Notice that it fell prominently on the Ascendant at Lisbon where Jupiter has just stationed retrograde. This implies that the essence of the eclipse has been triggered in the last few days.

The following is an extract from Nick Fiorenza’s post on the solar eclipse of September 13 entitled “Winds of Change & New Beginnings”.

This solar eclipse brings winds of change that inspire new outward expressions in our lives. The Juno-Makemake North Lunar Node conjunction at this significant location in the ecliptic indicates this eclipse prominently effects relationships of all types along with emphasis on the administration of resources in relationships.  (Note: Juno is about  “rights” and fairness and enforcement of fairness especially in money matters [1])…Makemake appears to bring attention to leadership issues regarding the administration of resources; and in areas involving economics, ecology and human survival. Makemake may also impel strategic planning and enterprising action to create environmental conditions that ensure a healthy, prosperous and abundant life for groups or for the people in general. Makemake may also act to sort out those who are truly worthy of being in a leadership role from those who are not.

The  Full Moon brings the solar eclipse theme to its culmination. It brings realization about our need to clear our selves from any psychic and emotional webs of entrapment and to redefine our focus, dedication and commitments from this resultant clarity. This is prerequisite to having the discernment to see through the diversionary commotion occurring in the world, (Note: especially caused by  blindly following false leaders who do not have the good of the masses at heart) and to function upon transcendent currents guiding our lives into newer progressive modalities of living and co-participating in our relations as we continue into our surely but slowly manifesting new world paradigm [2].

That this eclipse is about enforcing the rights of the  bank depositors who are be stiffed of their money  becomes clear from the foregoing.

The first euro area government that has tried to subvert the law governing the relations between creditors and borrowers was that of Austria. It was recently ignominiously stopped from doing so by the country’s Constitutional Court, which declared the so-called “Hypo Alpe Adria Special Law” unconstitutional. What the government tried to do in this case was to stiff certain classes of creditors in spite of the fact that their bonds had been guaranteed by the now essentially insolvent province of Carinthia. As one can easily imagine, this decision didn’t go down well with the affected creditors and they sued the government. Austria’s Constitutional Court rightly concluded that the government had attempted to subvert essential legal principles and repealed the law in its entirety.

New edition of Hitler’s Mein Kampf goes on sale

Adolf Hitler's autobiography Mein Kampf was an instant sellout when it hit bookstores in Germany for the first time since the Second World War. More than 15,000 advance orders were placed, despite the initial print of 4,000 copies, with one copy even put up for resale on for €9,999.99 (£7,521.43).  Mein Kampf, which means My Struggle, returned into the public domain on January 1.

Hitler’s Mein Kampf returned into the public domain on January 1 as Mercury stationed to go retrograde just a few days later. A chart for Mercury station square Mars on Jan.5 drawn for Berlin is shown here. Notice that Mercury-Mars-TNP Vulcanus form a T-square that  straddles the meridian. The “reaction point” of the T-square  which is the empty leg opposite the apex planet (here Mars) is occupied by Hitler’s radix Sun [0ta48].  Mercury rules books and publications and a retrograde Mercury is a reference to a book from the past.

Mercury-Vulkanus-Mars: powerful speakers or writers; the use of language to influence or coerce; (with Mars) to incite to war or assertiveness.

Mercury is conjunct alpha (α) Aquila, Altair,  a pale yellow star in the neck of the Eagle. About Altair, Nick Fiorenza writes:

Altair is of military force and power. Siderealist Andrés Takra adds: "Altair has been associated with kings, emperors, conquerors, tyrants, politicians..."

Putting the pieces together, we can see how the chart is referring to the possibility of a return of the German dictator’s book.

Mexican drug lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman captured

Six months after tunneling out of the maximum security Altiplano prison, Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán Loera was re-captured for the third time by Mexican Marines on Friday in a high-risk raid of the drug lord's compound, and later a motel on the outskirts of Los Mochis, Sinaloa. Jan.9

A chart for the Waning Crescent Moon of Jan.6 drawn for Los Mochis has the  luminaries aspecting  the Uranus-Pluto square which is significantly placed on the angles.

In simple terms the Uranus-Pluto square represents a war between rebels or renegades (Uranus in Aries) versus the government (Pluto in Capricorn).  In Capricorn, Pluto symbolizes the overwhelming power of the government . Quite often when an individual (Aries) pits himself against the government (Capricorn) he is simply overpowered and jailed  as has happened with El Chapo. The following extract from Bill Herbst explains the Uranus-Pluto dynamics.

People who are aware of at least some of the symbolic meanings of the Uranus-Pluto square need to understand that Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn are both double-sided. One isn’t “good” and the other “bad.” That’s far too simplistic. Each planet-sign pair has positive and negative meanings as judged by context and perspective. Uranus in Aries can mean standing up for individual freedom through the protection (and sometimes the reassertion) of personal rights against the draconian power of a collective — whether governmental, corporate, or social — that no longer considers the needs of individuals, which is the dark side of Pluto in Capricorn (rule by and for a privileged oligarchy). But the equations can work the other way, too. The power of the collective to force conformity against “outlaws” who harm society can be the cavalry riding to the rescue to defend the common good by preventing willful, insensitive, or even sociopathic depredations by individuals or companies whose actions harm  everyone’s safety and well-being.

The Moon [0sa] is conjunct the star  beta (β) Hercules, Kornephoros, a pale yellow star on the right shoulder of Hercules.

Manilius associates Hercules with people like El Chapo.

"Hercules, the figure on bended knee and called by the Greek name of Engonasin, about whose origin no certainty prevails. Of this constellation is begotten the desertion, craftiness, and deceit characteristic of its children, and from it comes the thug who terrorizes the heart of the city." [Manilius, Astronomica, 1st century, AD, p.353.]

US Government revises Dietary Guidelines

The federal government on Thursday told Americans not to worry so much about cholesterol in their diets, that lots of coffee is fine and that skipping breakfast is no longer considered a health hazard. The recommendations were part of a new "Dietary Guidelines for Americans," the influential nutrition advice book that, updated every five years, expresses official thinking about what constitutes a nutritious meal. In what may be the most striking change, the new version drops the strict limit on dietary cholesterol, stepping back from one of most prominent public health messages since the ’60s. Jan.7

The US Government revised dietary guidelines just two days before the New Moon of Jan.9. A chart for the New Moon at Washington, DC is shown here. Notice that the Moon triggers the Uranus-Pluto square which makes hard aspects to the Ascendant.  Ebertin’s  keyphrase for Uranus-Pluto is relevant in the present context.

Uranus-Pluto: The process of transformation. The collapse of the old order of things, the construction of the new.

Aspecting the meridian axis are a few  asteroids. Ceres is in the 6th house (public health) square the meridian while Asclepius and Valentine are on the IC. Keywords for the asteroids are provided by Martha Wescott [1].

AESCULAPIA: Contact with physicians (including the internal healer) and belief systems about the health, symptoms and medical conditions. See aspects of “in need of or contributing to Healing.”
VALENTINE: As with Eros: passion, intimacy, the heart and the reproductive system.
CERES: The need for nurturing; food; the relationship between mother & child; issues of “taking care of” people, plants and animals; growths/cysts; herbs and grains.

So what has collapsed? A belief system about food related issues as they effect health in general and the heart in particular.

Australia rains begin to fill massive desert lake

Heavy rains have started to fill Australia's vast Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre and are bringing the desert to life. Pictures captured by pilot Trevor Wright show water filling dry salt plains that lie 700km (435 miles) north of Adelaide. The area around the lake has been inundated with rain over the last week, with falls of over 150mm reported. Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre fills only a few times in a century. When this happens it is Australia's largest lake.

Lake Eyre, officially known as Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre, contains the lowest natural point in Australia, at approximately 15 m below sea level, and, on the rare occasions that it fills, is the largest lake in Australia.

A chart drawn for the exact  Sun-Uranus  square at Lake Eyre is shown here. In mundane astrology, it is important to pay attention to exact planetary aspects. Over the last couple of days, the Sun conjoined Pluto and squared Uranus. One of the manifestations of this trigger is a sudden release of elemental energy as in storms, earthquakes etc. Notice that the square sharply aspects the horizon axis while the Saturn-Neptune square straddles the meridian.

Of all the contradictory and clashing symbols of astrology, the pairing of Saturn and Neptune suggests a paradox. At times the paradox symbolized by the planets can be seen quite literally in events. Neptune rules ‘water’ while Saturn rules  barrenness that one can associate with a ‘desert’ so that the sudden appearance of water that brings a desert to life can be linked to Saturn-Neptune. Reinforcing this is Neptune conjunct the stars in the Water Pourer’s urn – a perfect symbol for an abundance of water in the form of heavy rain and flood.

However, at any point in time there are several mundane events. Some of these events pull in the same direction, so to speak, resulting in terrestrial phenomenon  that is defined by  more than one mundane event. The news comes on the eve of Jupiter [23vi] stationing retrograde while conjunct the star Alkes [24vi]. Alpha (α) Crater, Alkes, is a 4th magnitude orange star in the base of the Cup. A crater is essentially  a circular depression in the land. In time a crater can collect water and become a lake.

North Korea tests nuclear H-bomb

International scepticism and condemnation have greeted North Korea's claim to have successfully carried out an underground hydrogen bomb test. If confirmed, it would be North Korea's fourth nuclear test since 2006 and mark a major upgrade in its capabilities. But nuclear experts have questioned whether the size of the blast was large enough to have been from an H-bomb. South Korea called the test a "grave provocation" but said it was difficult to believe it was from such a device. Jan.6

Uranus and Pluto were square each other between 1932 and 1934, although the aspect began to culminate as early as 1930.  1930 was the year of Pluto’s discovery and is often linked to the invention of the atomic bomb which is a symbol of Pluto’s devastating power to destroy and rebuild.

In general Uranus-Pluto aspects are linked to the sudden release (Uranus) of devastating power (Pluto) as has been demonstrated today with Sun triggering the Uranus-Pluto square. A chart for the exact moment of Sun conjunct Pluto on Jan.6 has the combination on the MC at Punggye-ri nuclear site in North Korea.

World's largest blue star sapphire 'found in Sri Lanka'

Gemologists in Sri Lanka claim that the largest blue star sapphire yet has been discovered in a mine in the country. The gemology institute in the capital Colombo has certified that the gem weighs 1404.49 carats and say they have not certified anything larger. The gem is valued at at least $100m and the current owner estimates that it could sell for up to $175m at auction. Jan.4

The conjunctions of planets are important events in mundane astrology. And very significantly so in those places where the conjunction occurs on an angle. The upcoming Venus-Saturn conjunction of Jan.9 occurs exactly on the MC at Colombo. Among other things, Venus rules valuables and expensive items while Saturn is the planet which rules ‘blue sapphire’ [1].
