The woman who electrified a village and took on a mafia

Kalawati Devi Rawat is known as the woman who brought electricity to her remote village in the hills of the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, writes BBC Hindi's Salman Ravi. It was the early 1980s and she had just been married and moved to Bacher village to live with her husband. The village had no electricity and she found life tough once it got dark in the hills. One day, she led a group of village women to meet government officials at the district headquarters in Gopeshwar to demand that their village be electrified. But the authorities were unmoved. As this news story breaks, an exact Venus-Neptune conjunction occurs today. A chart for the mundane event has a T-square straddling the meridian with the conjunction on the IC.  For the star backdrop of the conjunction, the following extract from Diana Rosenberg appears to describe  Kalawati Devi perfectly:

“Whither shall we go? Not an empty question for these children of Cygnus, Pegasus and Aquarius (as well as healing  goddess Gula, his ancient predecessor), for these souls must make a choice: whether to remain aloof to the anguish of others (or cause it!), or to learn sensitivity and compassion through their own painful experiences, becoming “wounded healers” who develop an impulse to help, teach, save and restore. The polarity is sharply defined, for while some here are humanitarian reformers with a social conscience, others are cold and selfishly autocratic, utterly indifferent to the sufferings of their fellow human beings. Whatever their choices in life, they often make great demands  upon themselves; many are courageous and adventurous, believing in strong tough leadership. Despising weakness and dependency, they are capable of great feats of physical discipline, and most evince endurance as well as moral strength, fearing only the fear within themselves. Even those whose lives are contented and secure seem to need to pit themselves against great odds  or extraordinary challenges”.

The Sabian symbol of the IC  [13pi] is also meaningfully connected to Kalawati’s story.

Keynote: Through the effectual use of his will a consecrated man can become a symbol of courage for all those who follow in his footsteps.

But as we know planetary energies seldom work in isolation. The T configuration contains a Mars-Jupiter square which in its most positive manifestation is, in the words of Ebertin, “successful creative activity”.
