Why the Brexit referendum result cannot be predicted?

“The stars incline, they do not compel” – Alan Leo

Another poll has shown the Leave campaign taking the lead in the EU referendum with a huge swing. The Ipsos MORI poll for the Evening Standard newspaper shows Leave with 53 per cent of the vote and Remain on 47 per cent cent. Leave was up 10 per cent on the previous poll while Remain was down 10 per cent.  http://goo.gl/9Kccng

The UK electorate will address the question of withdrawal from the EU  on 23 June 2016 in a referendum on the country's membership. The question on everybody’s mind is which way will the referendum go. But astrology does not provide answers. It only raises questions. And it challenges us to answer those questions. It is how we decide to put the various elements of the relevant chart together that decides the final outcome.

As a case in point let us look at the diverse opinions of astrologers on the Brexit question. There are as many predicting “remain” as those predicting “leave” [1].

So what we will do here is look at the question that the stars pose. Since the referendum is happening just after the Cancer Ingress of the Sun, a chart for the Ingress should help pose the question. Notice that it carries an important Grand Cross on the meridian axis. We have discussed some elements of the longstanding Jupiter-Saturn-Neptune T-square which I reproduce below:

Jupiter-Saturn cycles, created by the two most massive planets in our solar system, are one of the most powerful and influential in our solar system dynamics. This last quarter Jupiter-Saturn square, occurring now, impels movement and expansion away from societal models, sociopolitical structures, and constructs in our personal lives that have now become limiting and restricting to new growth, an energetic set in motion throughout 2016, one that will continue throughout the last quarter of this 20-year cycle, into 2020. The existing constructs in our lives simply can not support any further growth, thus we either modify those constructs so they can allow a greater level of growth and expansion, or we dismantle those constructs all together.
Saturn-Neptune: Should we isolate ourselves (Saturn) or keep our connections with others alive (Neptune)?
Jupiter-Saturn-Neptune: The end of big dreams. The experiencing of the consequences issuing from false hopes, plans which come to nothing, disappointments, losses. (The EU dream project about European unification?)
Mercury-Saturn: The stage of “saying” (Mercury) “goodbye”(Saturn).

It would appear from the delineations provided above that it is time for Britain to say goodbye to the EU. But there is no guarantee that it will. Why do we think that is possible? Well for one thing, a little asteroid called Astraea is conjunct the Jupiter leg of the Grand Cross. Martha Wescott provides the following keywords for Astraea:

ASTRAEA: Blocked closure; an inability to read beginnings and endings or to “let go” of things, people or events. [2]

After adding this element what does it look like now? Obviously there is no answer. While leaving the EU may be the right thing to do, the question that is raised by the chart is whether the British have it within them to overcome their doubts and “let go”.So as I said no answers only questions are what mundane charts reveal.

Some astrologers have based their prediction on the chart for the EU. The chart of the EU is of course a valid chart for answering the question. With solar arc MC opposite Mars-Pluto  and Mars stationing on its radix position in the 4th , it may appear that a family member wants to leave. But there too we have uncertainty. Mars is square Saturn.

Mars is your inner warrior. If you have a healthy Mars, you’re able to assert yourself in relationships, speak up in order to persuade others, and take action to achieve your goals. But a square to Saturn can swallow your independence and assertiveness (recall the myth of Cronus eating his children.) Saturn most often represents the “father” or other “authority figures” who may squash your desire for independence. You may fear that you may be incapable of standing on your own in the big bad world.  It is true that a positive response to the Pluto conjunction to Mars would be to awaken one's will power and the capacity to say no to an authority figure. But how can we sure that British public will wake up to this requirement.  So it is not as though the chart gives clear cut answers about which way the referendum will go.
