The Indonesian Genocide of 1965-66

A non-binding international tribunal at The Hague has ruled that Australia, the UK and the United States were complicit in 1965 mass killings and human rights atrocities in Indonesia. During that period, some 500,000 to one million people died in one of the bloodiest massacres of the 20th century. What began as a purge of communists after a failed coup attempt, went on to encompass ethnic Chinese and alleged leftists, which led to the massacre being referred to as "politicide." July 21

The Indonesian killings of 1965–1966 (sometimes referred to as the Indonesian Massacres, Indonesian Genocide, or Indonesian Politicide) were large-scale killings which occurred in Indonesia over many months, targeting communists, ethnic Chinese and alleged leftists, often at the instigation of the armed forces and government. Initially it began as an anti-communist purge following a controversial coup by the army (30 September Movement) in Indonesia. The most widely accepted estimates are that between 500,000 to more than one million people were killed, with some estimates as high as two to three million. The massacres began in October 1965, in the weeks following the coup attempt, and reached their peak over the remainder of the year before subsiding in the early months of 1966. They started in the capital, Jakarta.

Readers will recall that 1965-1966 was a period when there was a Uranus-Pluto conjunction – a combination that we associate with upheavals, revolutions and the collapse of old orders. But interestingly, Saturn also opposed this conjunction so that violence and brutality was to be expected. As part of this triple dance, Saturn opposed Uranus on April 1, 1965. At Jakarta, the opposition fell exactly on the horizon axis accompanied by Mars and Pluto with Uranus on the Ascendant. (In a strange coincidence, the opposition also aligned with the meridian axis of Indonesia’s national chart [1]). All this was virtually a powder keg waiting to be ignited. The ignition took place on 30 September when the progressed Ascendant reached a conjunction to Saturn thereby aligning the opposition once again with the horizon axis. Thereafter all hell broke loose.

Saturn in the April 1, 1965 chart above is amidst the stars of the Aquarian Water Bearer.  Diana Rosenberg links with “brutal attacks and expression of race and religious prejudice as well as responses to them”. With Neptune currently transiting over the radix Saturn, the judgement of the international tribunal at The Hague  comes as a healing response.
