Ceasefire in Colombia ends one of the world's longest running conflicts

One of the world’s longest-running conflicts draws to a close at midnight, after Colombia’s FARC militant group declared a permanent ceasefire ending its five decades of insurgency. The commander of Colombia's biggest rebel movement has said its fighters will permanently cease hostilities with the government as a result of their peace accord. Rodrigo Londono, leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), made the announcement in Havana, where the two sides negotiated for four years before announcing the peace deal last week. The ceasefire is a momentous event since it ends a half-century of political violence which has claimed more than 220,000 lives and driven more than 5 million people from their homes.  To understand this important event we will look at the current Cancer Ingress chart drawn for Havana where the accord was signed. Notice that a powerful Grand Cross straddles the angles. On the IC is Neptune conjunct the star Achernar, alpha Eridanus which marks the end of Eridanus, the River flowing into the Universal Sea – symbolic of endings and new beginnings.  Diana Rosenberg links it to “history and paradigm altering events and peace treaties”[1] .Adding to the general theme of a new beginning, the  last quarter Jupiter-Saturn square impels movement and expansion away from sociopolitical structures that have now become limiting and restricting to new growth.

Progressing the chart to Aug. 29, brings the Grand Cross once again in alignment with the angles triggering its essence. And finally, let us remember that the event takes place just  a day after  Venus, the planet of peace and resolution of conflicts, conjoins fortunate Jupiter.
