A chart for the upcoming Mercury-Jupiter conjunction at
Varanasi, India can help explain this news. Notice that the conjunction takes
place in Virgo square the horizon axis and is therefore significant for the place. With Jupiter’s
link to exaggeration and pomposity, Mercury-Jupiter can often be associated
with verbosity and a desire to show off one’s language skills. About the
constellation Virgo, Manilius wrote:
"On them she will confer a tongue which charms, the mastery of
words. " [Astronomica, Manilius, 1st century AD, p.237 and 239]
To complete the picture for the stars on the MC [11li],
Diana Rosenberg writes:
“Tropical Libra’s
element of air and the Virgin’s realm of discerning intellect brings forth
explorers of nature and the realm of language (Libra as the 5th sign
from the 3rd simply enjoys words).”
This is also the area of the Indian lunar mansion Hasta which translates to laughter!
