World War II – History in the stars

Pleaides – the Weeping Sisters

World War II also known as the Second World War, was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, although related conflicts began earlier. It involved the vast majority of the world's countries—including all of the great powers—eventually forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was the most widespread war in history, and directly involved more than 100 million people from over 30 countries. In a state of "total war", the major participants threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort, erasing the distinction between civilian and military resources. Marked by mass deaths of civilians, including the Holocaust (in which approximately 11 million people were killed) and the strategic bombing of industrial and population centres (in which approximately one million were killed, and which included the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki), it resulted in an estimated 50 million to 85 million fatalities. These made World War II the deadliest conflict in human history. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II

In mundane astrology, the horoscope of a nation’s leader is often analyzed to understand the fate of the nation. We, therefore, analyse the chart for Germany’s leader Adolph Hitler (for the war years) using his primary directions by Van Dam. Wim Van Dam is a Dutch astrologer who has developed formulae for calculating primary directions that is widely used throughout Europe for decades and is now being used by more astrologers throughout the world.

What are Van Dam Primary Directions?

Many astrologers think they create a complete progressed horoscope by calculating the secondary positions of the sun, the moon, the planets and maybe the lunar node and adding to these positions something they call ‘the progressed cusps’: first calculate the progressed MC by one way or another, then calculate the corresponding ascendant and intermediate cusps for the local latitude of birth et voilà.

Although this is handy in daily practice (one has to have a complete set of progressed points) and one can get definitely consistent and positive results, one should realize that it is not the complete truth for you without the complete set of primary planets that are also active at the time.
Primary Directions are far older than secondary ones. Secondaries were more or less invented by Placidus. Primaries are already described by Ptolemy (A.D. 150) in his Tetrabiblos, Loeb Edition, Robins’ translation, p. 293-307, Ashmand Edition p. 95-100. This text however is so obscure (as you will see when you try to read it) that through the ages heavy discussions have been held on its interpretation. Many astrologers (Cardanus, Morin, Placidus, Kühr to name a few) had their own variant of p.d.’s. Primary Directions, in spite of their fame, this technique did not become a standard tool for astrologers to use.  http://www.astrosoftware.com/wimprimaries.htm

The seeds of World War II were sowed by the victors of World War I. The victorious allies at the end of World War I required payment by Germany of heavy reparations. It was  felt that peace  ought to be crushing , including the payment by Germany of heavy reparations.  In Germany the reparations came to be blamed for everything going wrong in the postwar years: for poverty, for unemployment, for the hyperinflation of 1923, and for the depression of 1929. As Taylor writes, “Every touch of economic hardship stirred the Germans to shake off 'the shackles of Versailles'.”

Every nation has a message to deliver, a mission to fulfill, a destiny to reach. Leaders are born who fulfill this destiny for nations. Hitler’s chart carries a Hades-Neptune-Pluto square (activated by Primary Van Dam during the post WWI  years 1927-1938 [1] ). Martha Wescott provides the following interpretations:

Neptune-Pluto: to see something akin to delusions of persecution or paranoia; to see that power can exploit; aware of exploitation of the masses – especially through an appeal to base emotions, unrealistic ideals and promises of perfection; to see people gain power by capitalizing on the vulnerability, passivity or weakness of others.
Hades-Pluto: to see changes that are not for the better but that bring a decline; to recognize that poverty, lack or depression can motivate or create upheaval.
Hades-Neptune: one can feel victimized by history; under poverty and declining conditions the masses look for a savior.

Adolf Hitler was the leader of the Nazi Party and  Chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945. He was  determined to assert more broadly Germany's power and make  a dominant place for it in Europe, as a reaction to the treatment it was receiving at the hands of the World War I victors. The Versailles Treaty  was a boost to extremist elements that expressed these resentments in their starkest and sharpest form. The harsh peace was a political bonanza for the Nazi Party, which railed against it throughout its rise to power[1].

No chart analysis is complete without understanding the stars that form the backdrop to relevant planets that are important in the directions to the chart. Here we will look at the stars for Neptune and Pluto. These include the Pleaides Cluster which runs from the end of tropical Taurus to stars in the beginning of tropical Gemini and the Hyades. Eta (η) Taurus, or Alcyone [29ta], "The Central One", is the central or main star and also the largest star of the Pleiades or Seven Sisters, the seven stars that are situated on the shoulder blade of the Bull.

The Pleaides  are often referred to as the Weeping Sisters.  In our case here, we can relate this to the hardships  and sorrow for Germany following  poverty and economic depression. Next we have alpha (α) Perseus, Mirfak [0ge50],  a star on the right side of the Champion. Perseus is the Rescuer who aggressively tries to rescue and reform everything and everybody according to his idealistic vision of the way things out to be [2].

In Hitler’s chart,  natal Pluto [4ge40] is  conjunct  gamma (γ) Taurus, Prima Hyadum [4ge14], the chief star of the Hyades, situated on the face of the Bull. This makes for aggressive, imperious and autocratic individuals. Intensely emotional loners, their unstable stormy passions make daily life a melodrama. Brooding and resentful, in some cases they may be persecuted or persecuting, sometimes leading to ferocity, violence and/or delusions of grandeur. The Hyades are linked to invasions, great battles, upheavals and mass events [3].

As a general rule, outer planets are usually a “dumb” note in the chart unless in aspect to personal planets. Hitler’s Moon [6cp37] makes a hard aspect to Pluto and is conjunct the star Facies [6cp45]. M22 Sagittarius, Facies, is the nebula in front of the Archer's face. Ancient astrologers linked the Archer with the conqueror.

"As for the Archer, when the foremost portion of his cloak rises, he will give birth to hearts renowned in war and will conduct the conqueror, celebrating great triumphs in the sight of all, to his country's citadels." [Manilius, Astronomica, 1st century AD, book 4, p.267]
